Patriots Owner Robert Kraft Charged with Soliciting Prostitution

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft was listed as part of a group charged with soliciting prostitution in Florida on Friday.

Per NESN.com’s Doug Kyed, Jupiter police chief Daniel Kerr announced Kraft has been formally charged with soliciting another to commit prostitution.

Per NBC News’ Tom Winter, Florida police said they obtained video evidence showing Kraft “involved in acts of prostitution” during their investigation.

Kraft issued a statement through a Patriots spokesperson denying the charges, via CNN’s Jill Martin: “We categorically deny that Mr. Kraft engaged in any illegal activity. Because it is a judicial matter, we will not be commenting further.”

Matt Lincoln of CBS 12 in Palm Beach noted Kraft’s charge is a misdemeanor and a warrant will be issued for his arrest.

Per Mary Helen Moore and Eric Rogers of Treasure Coast Newspapers, the Orchids of Asia Day Spa in Jupiter has been tied to an international human trafficking ring.

Kraft’s charges stem from paying for sexual services at the spa, which Moore and Rogers noted was shut down, along with nine others in the Orlando, Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast area, after an investigation discovered women “were in sexual servitude.”

Kraft has a residence at a double-apartment complex in Palm Beach. The 77-year-old has owned the Patriots since 1994 and the MLS’ New England Revolution since 1996.

Fear, anxiety in Pakistan-administered Kashmir as tension peaks

Chakothi, Pakistan-administered Kashmir – Shabnam Lone just wants to go home.

The 22-year-old came to Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistan-administered Kashmir, three weeks ago to visit her uncle and aunt for a short trip, after waiting a year and a half for her application to make its way through the labyrinthine Pakistani and Indian security vetting processes.

Now, however, she’s stuck, an unintended fly caught in the web of fever-pitch tensions between South Asian neighbours India and Pakistan following a suicide attack on an Indian security convoy in the India-administered Kashmir town of Pulwama that killed 42 troopers last week.

Early on Monday morning, just hours before her bus was to depart, she was told Indian authorities had suspended the service, which has carried more than 14,000 passengers to and fro across the Line of Control (LoC) since it was launched in 2005.

India and Pakistan have fought three of their four wars over the disputed territory of Kashmir, which both claim in its entirety but administer separate parts of, divided by the LoC.

“She just wants to go home, this is causing her so much stress,” says Sohail Lone, her uncle.

The Lones refused to reveal their real names for fear of reprisals by Indian authorities, and Shabnam refused to speak directly to Al Jazeera, speaking only through her uncle.

“She’s young, and she’s scared of what might happen to her when she goes back.”

India immediately blamed Pakistan for having facilitated the attack in Pulwama, hours after a purported video of the suicide bomber emerged in which he said he was a member of Pakistan-based armed group, Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).

Pakistan denies any involvement in the attack, and Prime Minister Imran Khan has promised an investigation into JeM’s activities on Pakistani soil if “actionable intelligence” is shared.

An Indian government statement rejected the offer as a “lame excuse”, further ratcheting up tensions.

A day after the attack, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the leader of the nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), had already said he had given the Indian military “a free hand” to deal with the situation in Kashmir, threatening that Pakistan would “pay a very heavy price” after the attack.

On Friday, Pakistan said it would respond to any Indian military aggression against it in kind, but that it would continue to support a process of dialogue rather than conflict.

‘When firing starts, it is chaos’

In Chakothi, just two kilometres from the LoC, the mood is tense.

“Shelling or firing could begin at any moment,” says Nabila Shaheen, 40, a farmer who has lived here for decades. “We are constantly fearful.”

While a ceasefire was established at the LoC in 2003, violations of it by both sides are frequent, particularly in times of high tension between the nuclear-armed neighbours.

In 2018, the Pakistani military says there was a marked uptick in Indian shelling across the de facto border, killing 55 people, mostly civilians, and wounding more than 300 others.

India says Pakistan also violates the ceasefire regularly, killing at least 14 security personnel in 2018, according to government data.

Whenever such violence occurs, it is usually border villages like Chakothi that are straight in the firing line.

“When the firing starts, it is chaos,” says Abdur Rahim, 61, a retired schoolteacher. “You can’t leave the house. The markets are empty. Supplies run out – and even if you can get them, they are only available at double or three times the price.”

Rahim has built a small reinforced concrete bunker adjacent to his home for when the shelling begins. Not all families here are lucky enough to have the resources to do so, however.

“We feel the fear deep in our hearts,” says Mehmood Ahmed, 30, an unemployed labourer. “We don’t have a bunker at home […] we don’t have the money to afford one.”

Shaheen, the farmer, says her family was forced to sell a buffalo – one of the most valuable livestock animals in this part of the world – to be able to afford to build their bunker. In total, she says, it has cost them more than 200,000 Pakistani rupees ($1,430), and it is still not complete.

“I broke the stones for this bunker myself,” she says. “But it is still not done, it isn’t usable yet.”

These days, she says, she stays as close to home as possible, and remains constantly on alert for the sound of shells hitting.

Rizwan Ramzan, 22, a young medical store clerk told Al Jazeera his family had cleaned out their bunker, but that it hardly had enough room for the family itself, let alone their many neighbours.

“There is standing room for 40 people inside, but they cannot move in there,” he said of the cramped space.

Asked how they expected the standoff between the two countries to end, villagers here were confused as to how to respond.

“Why should I know anything about it?” asks Ahmed.

Shaheen offers only a little more clarity on what could come next.

“How can we say what happens next?” she asks. “The Indians might do an operation, or not. But they will shell us, definitely.”

‘There should not be a war’

Pakistan’s response to the steady increase in tone from the Indian government has been calmly defiant, even in the face of accusations from the Indian military commander in Indian-administered Kashmir that the attack was “controlled” by Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) agency.

On Friday, Major-General Asif Ghafoor, Pakistan’s military spokesperson, said his country did not desire war, but would respond if attacked.

“We do not wish to go into war, but please rest assured that should you initiate any aggression – first, you will never be able to surprise us,” he said.

“Because you initiate, we shall also dominate the escalation ladder. We shall have a superior force ratio at decisive points. Never think that due to our commitments elsewhere we will have any [lack of] capacity.”

In Pakistan-administered Kashmir, his comments are echoed by the state’s government, which while technically autonomous, does fall under the ambit of the Pakistani federal government.

“On a small scale, [India] can fire [at Pakistani-administered Kashmir] with heavy fire or light fire on Pakistani positions,” says Tariq Farooq, senior minister in the Pakistan-administered Kashmir government.

A general view of a road sign showing the distance to Srinagar from Muzaffarabad, capital of Pakistan-administered Kashmir [Asad Hashim/Al Jazeera]

Indian analysts have warned that the country will be examining the full spectrum of response options, from increasing shelling at the LoC to launching air strikes either across the LoC or the international border.

“Air strikes are not possible when both are nuclear countries and the international community is alive and the international media is alive, I don’t think that’s [possible],” says Farooq, who hails from the district of Bhimber, where he says some Indian shelling took place on Wednesday.

The state government has issued orders to citizens living near the LoC to limit movements, refrain from forming large groups as they could be targeted, keep lights dimmed at night and build bunkers.

“Keeping the current situation in mind, the Indian army could take extreme actions at any time,” reads a widely distributed government notice.

For those at the border, though, it is not so simple.

Saini Begum, 50, a widow who runs a household of 10 people, says she feels very afraid, and does not know what the future holds.

“No, no, there should not be a war,” she says, when asked if she thinks it is a possibility. “Things should get better, but I do not know how that will happen.”

Offset Swears Off Cheating On New Cardi B Collab ‘Clout’

Paras Griffin/Getty Images

The rollout for Offset‘s debut solo album, Father of 4, originally eyed late 2018 as the release date — but inexplicable delays and the near-destruction of his marriage to Cardi B became perhaps larger than the LP itself. Today (February 22), though, the album has finally been released, and on it is “Clout,” a collaboration with Cardi that isn’t just an attack on fame-chasers. It also contains a key line where Offset says he’ll never step out on Cardi again.

Both Cardi and Offset have seen their fair share of headlines outside of their respective music careers. Offset’s alleged infidelity in the past seemed to generate friction between the husband and wife, with Cardi at one point claiming that the relationship just wasn’t working out. Offset worked hard to win her back, interrupting her set at Rolling Loud in December to show her how sorry he was.

By the time the 61st Grammy Awards rolled around earlier this month, the pair appeared back together, with Offset accompanying Cardi onstage when she accepted the award for Best Rap Album. He also gave her one hell of a look when she performed “Money” during the show.

This all goes to say that “Clout” finds the two uniting in the face of enemies and threats. On the song, the two call out those who want attention and do anything to get it. The chorus literally screams, “They do anything for clout, do anything for clout” over and over. Offset then takes his time to shout out his wife and her gift-giving abilities (“I bought her the Lambo, she bought me the Wraith”). The most interesting, and perhaps most telling line, though, is when he assures Cardi, and listeners by extension, that he’s staying away from distraction. “Shorty DM me, I’m straight / I’m not gon’ bite on the bait,” he raps confidently.

Cardi B joins afterward for a slick-talking verse that doesn’t call anyone out but lets everyone know that she’s accepting all challengers. “They know I’m the bomb, they ticking me off / Saying anything to get a response / I know that mean they traffic is low,” she spits with puddles of acid forming on the ground in front of her. She wrestles the attention away from Offset with her venomous verse, creating one of the album’s strongest points.

Last week, Offset teased the release of his album with a trailer featuring footage of Cardi giving birth. Earlier this week, he released the video for the album’s lead single, “Red Room.” Now, we finally have the LP — and “Clout” — available for consumption. Listen to the song above.

If you own a paid account to a porn site, watch out for hackers. More PCs appear to be getting attacked with malware that’s designed to steal login credentials for the top adult video websites.

Last year, the attacks targeted more than 110,000 PCs across the world, double the number from 2017, according to antivirus provider Kaspersky Lab. On Thursday, it published a report on the malware threat based on anonymized customer data taken from the company’s antivirus products.

In total, the porn credential-hunting infection attempts reached 850,000 in 2018, or about triple the amount from the year before, the security firm said.

The malware can deliver itself as a Trojan that masquerades as a porn-related program or file. To steal the credentials, the malicious processes will monitor what webpages the user opens over a PC. They can also collect the credentials by creating fake login pages to porn sites that’ll secretly record whatever is typed into the password fields.

In 2018, Kaspersky Lab detected five different malware families focused on the porn site credential harvesting. The attacks have been mostly focused on paid accounts for only two sites, Pornhub and XNXX. That’s a significant shift from 2017 when the credential-hunting programs were after accounts from the top 10 porn websites.

“Apparently Pornhub remains popular, not only to regular users of the web, but also to cybercriminals looking for another way of gaining illegal profits by selling user credentials,” Kaspersky Lab said in its report.

Image: securelist

You can find hackers selling the stolen credential information on black market websites located on the dark web. Kaspersky Lab examined the top marketplaces and found all of them contained offers for the login information.

“In total, 29 websites displayed more than 15,000 offers to buy one or more accounts to pornography websites,” the security firm added. The prices can go for $3 to $9 per paid account, a significant discount from the $9.99 a month legitimate users spend to maintain a premium Pornhub account.

The research is a reminder to be careful around online porn that comes from shady sources; it could be a hacker-sponsored attempt to install malware on your PC. “Most malware that reaches users’ computers from malicious websites is usually disguised as videos,” Kaspersky Lab’s report added.

To protect yourself, it’s a good idea to avoid installing anything that comes from a questionable porn site. You should also be wary of clicking emails that appear to come from legitimate porn providers such as Pornhub. It’s possible the email could be a phishing scam designed to send you to a malicious website.

“If you wish to buy a paid subscription to an adult content website — purchase it only on the official website. Double check the URL of the website and make sure it is authentic,” Kaspersky Lab added.

Mark Lerner: Bryce Harper, Scott Boras Haven’t Contacted Nationals in Months

    Nick Wass/Associated Press

As Bryce Harper remains unsigned with spring training camps starting to heat up, it appears as though a reunion with the Washington Nationals is unlikely.

Nationals owner Mark Lerner revealed to NBC Sports Washington’s Lisa Redmond on Friday that the team has “moved on” and it has not heard from the prized free agent or his representative Scott Boras in “months”:

“Nothing’s certainly changed on our end. We’ve moved on. As I said back then and we had to. There was no way we could wait around. Bryce, I’m sure will make his decision hopefully in the next few days, but we’ve filled out our roster and like I said, we wish him nothing but the best.

“But there’s always that, the door’s cracked a little bit. I have no clue at this point what they’re up to. We really haven’t heard from them in a couple months.”

Back in November, Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post reported the Nationals had offered the 2015 National League MVP a 10-year, $300 million contract, a deal that did not include any opt-outs.

The Athletic’s Jim Bowden later noted in January that the team’s most recent offer was “much more than the $300 million being reported by the media.”

That increased offer apparently wasn’t enough to get a deal done, though. At least not yet.

Harper hit .249/.393/.496 with 34 home runs, 34 doubles and 100 RBI in 2018, using a strong second half (.300 average post-All-Star break) to finish his walk year on a high note.

And with Washington playing host to the 2018 MLB All-Star festivities, Harper put on a show for the hometown crowd on his way to the Home Run Derby title:

That was just the latest feat achieved by the Nationals star. Along with an MVP award and a Derby title, Harper already has accumulated six All-Star selections, the 2012 NL Rookie of the Year award and a 2015 NL Silver Slugger.

That’s quite the resume, especially for someone who is only 26 years old.

The Harper sweepstakes are expected to heat up now that Manny Machado is off the market. Machado’s record-breaking contract with the San Diego Padres became official on Thursday. The 10-year, $300 million pact is the largest free-agent deal in North American sports history.

In other words, Harper and Boras now know the number to beat.

The Padres, Philadelphia Phillies, San Francisco Giants and Chicago White Sox are all among the teams to show interest in Harper this offseason.

Jon Heyman of Fancred reported on Thursday that San Diego remains in the mix even after signing Machado, while USA Today‘s Bob Nightengale tweeted that the White Sox have dropped out.

According to Heyman, Harper is believed to have turned down “multiple offers over $300 million” in recent weeks.

House to vote Tuesday to block Trump’s emergency declaration

    Nancy Pelosi

The House plans to vote Tuesday on legislation to formally block President Donald Trump’s attempt to circumvent Congress to fund his border wall, Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Friday.

The privileged resolution to stop Trump’s emergency declaration — which has 226 co-sponsors, including one Republican — is expected to easily pass the House. The Senate will then be forced to vote within 18 days, posing an uncomfortable test of loyalty to Trump for the GOP-controlled chamber.

    Story Continued Below

“The president’s act is lawless and does violence to our Constitution, and therefore, to our democracy,” Pelosi told reporters Friday. “Not only is he disrespecting the legislative branch and the Constitution of the United States, he is dishonoring the office in which he serves.”

Democrats are moving swiftly to take the unprecedented step of voting to terminate Trump’s declaration of a national emergency to build a wall along the southern border with Mexico, which Pelosi described as “frivolous and cavalier”

Pelosi revealed her strategy from Laredo, Texas, where a group of Democrats are visiting the border in an attempt to dispel the president’s claims that an emergency situation exists.

Next week’s vote will be the first of a two-track approach to force Trump to back off his attempt to siphon money from some Pentagon programs toward a border project.

Pelosi declared Friday that there will be a legal challenge to block Trump in court, but did not specifically say it would come from Congress, suggesting that it could be an outside group.

Five House committees — such as Armed Services and Appropriations — are eyeing potential action, Pelosi said, but would not reveal specific details.

“They’ll be working in a very focused and strategic way in what we might do next. Right now, today, it’s about this resolution,” Pelosi said.

House Democrats are framing their fight against Trump as squarely focused on the constitutionality of his actions, with hopes of bringing as many Republicans on board as possible.

One Republican — libertarian Rep. Justin Amash — has so far joined the Democrats but one Democratic aide said Friday that “quite a few” more Republicans are expected to support the measure on the floor next week.

On the Senate side, Maine Republican Sen. Susan Collins said this week that she would join Democrats and support the resolution, saying Trump’s declaration of a national emergency “completely undermines” Congress.

Rep. Joaquin Castro, who leads the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, filed the resolution Friday morning.

“This is unprecedented,” Castro told reporters Friday. “The president is declaring a national emergency to fulfill a campaign promise, not because there is an actual emergency on the United States border.”

The House will tee up the resolution on Monday night, with plans to vote Tuesday, adding to an already dramatic week in Congress.

The House plan to vote next week on a landmark universal background checks bill that marks the formal launch of the Democratic party’s gun reform agenda. The House Oversight Committee will also hold a much-anticipated hearing from Trump’s former personal lawyer and fixer, Michael Cohen.

I guess this koala is hot?

    Hey, baby.
    Hey, baby.

People have been talking a lot about hot animals lately. There’s the hot duck, the hot cat from Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and … Gritty? Is Gritty an animal?

I respect the hot animal renaissance as much as anyone. However, I am extremely unnerved by this seductive koala, who was photographed by British photographer Ross Long on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia, earlier this month. He later posted it to Instagram.

Is this koala hot? It is hard to say, but I do not believe the koala is hot in the same way that the hot duck, for example, is hot. The hot duck is hot no matter what he does — he will even be hot when he molts, just in a more waif-y, artistic way — but this koala is hot only because of his particular pose.

Is the koala as hot when he is doing something instead of assuming a “come-hither” stance in a tree? I don’t think so.

    Hmmm.

    Hmmm.

This is not to discount the hot photograph, which is very powerful. It is simply some food for thought in this sexy, sexy animal era.

Winter is slowly, but surely coming to a close. Still, the binge rages on! Here’s what Amazon Prime Video is cooking up for your March streaming needs.

As per usual, new television options are a little bit lacking on the Prime Video front — save a new Kate Beckinsale series that looks pretty bananas, more on that later — so you’ll probably have better luck sticking with their movie offerings.

If you’re looking to round out your 2019 Oscars knowledge, check out Paweł Pawlikowski’s stunning Cold War, a Polish love story nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.

Looking for a mega blockbuster hit? Well, you could always try out Sony’s Venom. Love it or hate it, you’ll definitely give it a big reaction. (Fair warning though, Venom is only available through the STARZ premium add-on channel.)

Check out everything streaming on Prime Video this March below.

Top Pick: The Widow, Season 1

Kate Beckinsale is returning to her action roots — this time as Georgia Wells in Prime’s new original series, The Widow.

When Georgia’s husband goes missing after a mysterious plane crash, she refuses to accept his death and begins back-tracking his last actions before the disappearance. Whether she is “chasing a ghost” or uncovering a massive international plot isn’t spelled out in the series’ description, but based on the trailer we’re guessing it’s the latter. (You should definitely assume it’s the latter.)

The Widow: Season 1 begins streaming on Prime Video 3/1.
