Apparently nobody on Twitter knows what a human body looks like.ย
The flat stomach meme is a horrifying ASCII attempt at depicting a side profile of someone’s body. What it lacks in anatomical accuracy it makes up for in personal attacks. ย
The meme started late last week, when Twitter user @itsJWolfe tweeted emoji of all the beautifully delicious things they’ve eaten. Who needs a flat stomach when you can fill your body with bread and cheese? It’s 2019 and we’re all here to enjoy life.ย

Victor Robles has a chance to put on a show in the Nationals’ outfield.John Raoux/Associated Press
Spring training is often a time of illusion, especially for players who are trying to make a major league team or establish themselves as potential building blocks.
Players who dominate in the spring can often be explained away: They were competing against lower-level guys much of the time, and when they matched up against top competition, those players were merely working to get themselves in shape.
Success can be fleeting and false. However, what about the truly great prospect or up-and-coming player who happens to perform well in the spring and has what it takes to produce during the 2019 regular season?
We looked at several breakout stars this spring and made recommendations on buying or selling for the upcoming year in baseball.ย
1 of 5
Spring stats: .340/.452/.540, 2 HR, 10 RBI
Robles was thought of as the top prospect in the Nationals’ organization until Juan Soto blew everybody away with his remarkable rookie year in 2018.
However, Robles is a future star, and he has dominated in the spring. That should just be a taste of what he will do in the regular season.
Robles had a left elbow injury last season, and that kept him from advancing. However, he is healthy now, and his spring numbers are an indication of his ability. If he has problems with his hitting, he should remain in the lineup because of his fielding skills and speed.
He is a five-tool player who should challenge for National League Rookie of the Year honors, but Washington manager Dave Martinez does not want to burden Robles with high expectations just yet.
“I talked to Robles already about just getting on base, taking his walks, bunting, whatever you can do to get on base,” he said, per Blake Finney of Federal Baseball. “The biggest thing for me is playing good defense and running the bases hard.”
The numbers are outstanding, and they are made that much better because it’s the first time Paddack has faced big league hitters in his career.
Paddack was highly thought of as spring training started because he had arguably the best changeup in the minors to go along with a plus fastball. He has also shown an improved curveball.
He has worked hard to improve that pitch, tellingย AJ Cassavell of MLB.com,ย “I told myself going into the offseason that for me to be able to break with this team and for me to compete at the big league level, I need a third pitch.”
However, Paddack is not experienced.
Yes, he has good minor league numbers,ย but he’ll need to prove he can get professional hitters out when he doesn’t have his best stuff.ย He was pitching at the High-A level less than a year ago, after all.
Verdict:ย Sell

Ryan McMahon has pounded the baseball throughout spring training.Norm Hall/Getty Images
Spring stats: .439/.476/.789, 3 HR, 14 RBI
McMahon has had a dominant spring for the Rockies, and he is going to get his opportunity to show that he belongs in the major leagues.
He made an impression last year when he hit game-winning home runs in back-to-back games against the Los Angeles Dodgers in August.
McMahon has had a problem with strikeouts in the past, striking out more than 31 percent of the time in his 202 plate appearances last year. However, he has made an adjustment in his hand position, and he appears to be making progress.
McMahon has impressed manager Bud Black.
“Last year, there were some hits that you might say aren’t the quality of this year,”ย Black said, per Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post. “Now he’s ripping the ball. He’s taking big, aggressive swings, and the ball is coming off his bat hot. He’s hitting it to all fields. It’s been impressive.”
Black is buying, and so are we.ย
Verdict: Buy

Is this the year that Buxtonโdrafted second overall in 2012โfinally turns his unique skill set and talent into consistent production? The Twins certainly hope so, and they have seen a nice turnaround this spring.
However, Buxton has had multiple opportunities to show what he can do when it counts, and he has been a major disappointment with a career slash line of .230/.285/.387 with 28 home runs and 340 strikeouts inย 979 at-bats.
Buxton is confident as the season approaches, tellingย Jim Souhanย of theย Star-Tribune: “Right now I feel like I’m the best player. As long as that’s my mindset and that’s in me, it doesn’t matter what anybody else thinks.”
Still, this is a sell for now.
Verdict:ย Sell

Spring stats: 5G, 17 IP, 2.12 ERA, 22 strikeouts, three walks
Flaherty did a lot of good as a rookie last season, though the team went just 11-17 in his starts.
He has the tools with a fastball in the 92 to 94 mph range, a slider that looks like a cutter and a strong downward motion curveball. His changeup was so-so last season, and while that pitch is not a bread-and-butter out pitch yet, he has made an improvement.
Every pitch Flaherty throws seems to have a purpose, and he has cut down on his walk rate after averaging 3.52 bases on balls per nine innings.
Flaherty had a 3.34 ERA last year, and he believes he has made progress this spring.
“It was a good day,” Flaherty said after a performance last week, per Ben Frederickson of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “The best part of it is coming out and feeling good after getting up and down six times and getting my pitch count up there. It’s always good to feel strong after that. Feel like I’m in a good spot. I was able to work on some things.”
Flaherty’s spring performance has been sharp, and his confidence is high.
Two Saudi sisters fleeing their family in Saudi Arabia have secured emergency visas and departed Hong Kong after spending months in hiding, according to their lawyer.
The young women, who go by the aliases Reem and Rawan, left Hong Kong on Monday for a new country of residence, which has not been named.
Lawyer Michael Vidler said in a statement that the sisters, aged 18 and 20, were granted emergency humanitarian visas after six months in Hong Kong.ย
Vidler said the two are now “beginning their lives as free young women”.ย
The sisters say they were escaping alleged abuse by their male relatives, according to Amnesty International.ย
Following the news of their departure from Hong Kong, Amnesty said on Twitter that the two had shown “immense courage & took huge risks” and that they “must be allowed to build their lives without living in fear that their family or the Saudi authorities will force them back”.
Reem & Rawan showed immense courage & took huge risks to escape the repeated abuse by their male relatives. The sisters must be allowed to build their lives without living in fear that their family or the Saudi authorities will force them back. https://t.co/3YerbRSOOy
The young women have drawn attention to their plight by tweeting under the name #HKSaudiSisters.ย
They claim they escaped while on a family trip to Sri Lanka, intending to seek asylum in Australia but were intercepted at Hong Kong airport by Saudi officials and subsequently went into hiding.
Hong Kong is not a signatory of the 1951 Refugee Convention and would-be asylum seekers often languish for years as they wait to be sent to a third country.ย
‘Free of violence and oppression’
The sisters said in a statement that they want their story to give hope to others facing similar situations.ย
“We are thrilled …. that we have found our way to safety to restart our lives free of violence and oppression,” they said.ย
The two sisters are not the first to flee Saudi Arabia and seek assistance via social media.ย
Such cases appear to be on the rise, with the two sisters’ story emerging a month after 18-year-old Saudi woman Rahaf al-Qunun drew international attention with her dramatic escape from an allegedly abusive family to eventually gain refugee statusin Canada.ย
Saudi female runaways who flee the kingdom typically say they are trying to escape domestic abuse and male guardianship laws that bar women from obtaining a passport, traveling abroad, marrying or undergoing certain medical procedures without a male relative’s consent.ย
Women who are caught fleeing Saudi Arabia can be pressured to return home, arrested for disobedience or can be placed in restrictive centres.ย
The Saudi government and its embassies around the world do not typically comment on individual runaway cases, deeming them a “family affair”.

The Mueller report removes a potentially powerful campaign weapon.
Democrats were never relying on putting the Russia investigation at the center of their presidential campaigns.
But the freedom to rebrand President Donald Trump as a criminal had been widely viewed as a major potential asset โ a crowd-pleaser, at minimum, and an undercurrent to Democratsโ broader effort to portray Trump as unfit for the presidency.
Story Continued Below
The Mueller reportโs findings cut deeply into that prospective line of attack. After a summary of Mueller’s report concluded there wasn’t enough evidence to find Trump conspired with Russia to win the 2016 election, Democrats seeking to unseat the president joined a chorus of partisans calling for the full reportโs release.
But they also emerged from the weekend confronting the near-certainty that Trump will not be felled by an outside investigation, and that the 2020 campaign โ in a period of relative peace and economic prosperity โ will be waged on familiar ground advantageous for an incumbent president.
Dan Sena, a former executive director of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, said if he was advising a presidential candidate he would say that as important as the Mueller investigation is, “what impacts peopleโs everyday lives are health care costs, anxiety over their next mortgage, anxiety over their next paycheck.”
What voters are looking for, Sena said, “is somebody who has a vision for the country.โ
A Democratic strategist who has spoken with multiple 2020 candidates added, โThis is what happens when you spend two years obsessed with something that thereโs no guarantees of panning out.โ
Most of the leading candidates for the Democratic nomination, including Sens. Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren, for months have clung to a similar position: Mueller must be allowed to conclude his report without interference. Then, before and after the four-page summary was released, they demanded the full report, and for Attorney General Bill Barr to testify before Congress.
But for all the attention it has received in Washington and on cable TV news, the Russia investigation has been far less visible in the opening months of the campaign. At events in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and other early-voting states, attendees have asked far more questions about health care, climate change, education and taxes than they have about Russia or Mueller.
โIf you go talk to the 2018 House candidates who won all these districts, they will all tell you they werenโt talking about Russia and Robert Mueller. They were talking about health care and education and other issues,โ said Steve Elmendorf, a Democratic strategist and veteran of presidential campaigns.
The anti-Trump positions that continue to find favor with Democrats tend to be broader indictments of Washington under Republican control, along with Trumpโs antithetical approaches and vulgar behavior.
โPeople in the smart (presidential) campaigns will get their heads out of Twitter and cable news and focus on what people in early states really care about,โ Elmendorf said.
For months, Russia has barely registered with voters as a top issue, with both Gallup and the Pew Research Center finding economic issues, health care, immigration and other concerns at the top of Americansโ minds. And for the most part, candidates have hewed to a belief that voters are less animated by Democrats who are anti-Trump than by Democrats who stand for something themselves. Even as she railed against the president at a speech in front of Trump International Hotel in New York on Sunday, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) said she is โnot running for president because of who Iโm fighting against.โ
Even if they did care more about Russia, it’s unclear that the Mueller report would change votersโ views about Trump. Opinions about the Russia investigation have long fallen along partisan lines, with large majorities of Democrats believing Trump worked with Russia to influence the election โ and large majorities of Republicans believing he did not, according to the latest Ipsos/Reuters poll.
โFolks in Washington, D.C. are in a bubble, so everybody is disconnected from the day-to-day realities of Americans and what theyโre thinking about,โ said Michael Ceraso, who worked on the presidential campaigns of Bernie Sanders in 2016 and Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012.
On a presidential campaign, he said, โWhen youโre talking about criminal justice or climate change or rural and small-town economies, folks are not thinking about” the Mueller probe.
Still, the findingsโ release left some Democrats in a lurch. Former Texas Rep. Shortly before the president was cleared of conspiring with Russia, Beto OโRourke said while campaigning that Trump had colluded with Russia โbeyond the shadow of a doubt,โ adding it was โbeyond the shadow of a doubt that once in office, the president of the United States sought to obstruct justice.โ
After the summary was released, O’Rourke took to Twitter and called for the Mueller report to be released in full.
Trump, for his part, was taking the first steps in what is likely to be a protracted victory lap, telling reporters on Sunday that โitโs a shame that our country had to go through this.โ
The Mueller report did not weigh in on whether Trump had obstructed justice, saying there was evidence on both sides but drawing no conclusion. And the report wonโt be the last of Trumpโs legal troubles or possible financial entanglements with Russia that his Democratic critics can seize on. There’s still the question of whether the president will release his tax returns, which for years he has said have been under audit.
Another matter is whether the Trump administration is doing enough to prevent Russia from interfering in the 2020 election.
Carol Fowler, a prominent South Carolina Democrat who has been watching the candidates closely, sees a clear contrast between the president and his opponents on election integrity.
โHe can say he was exonerated from colluding with Russians in the last election, but he canโt say he has done anything to keep the Russians from interfering in 2020,โ Fowler said. โI believe thatโs what we need to focus on โ and I think the candidates ought to be talking about everything they would do that the Trump administration wouldnโt do to keep that from happening again.โ
Sometimes it feels like fans need a safe word just to watch their favorites on Game of Thrones. So it only makes sense that the actors get a safe word for actually shooting those harrowing scenes too.
In a new Inside Game of Thrones featurette, camera operator Sean Savage talked about what it was like to film some of the most iconic scenes in TV history โ from the Red Wedding to the Battle of the Bastards.
He also revealed that they provided Jon Snow actor Kit Harington with a “safe word so that we could call it off at any point” to shoot the most suffocating moment in the Bolton battle. The memorable shot wasn’t even scripted, as more and more stuntmen piled on top of Harington until all light closed around him.ย
According to everyone, Battle of the Bastards was the most grueling shoot on Game of Thrones โ before the most recent season almost mentally broke the actors in an even bigger battle scene. We can’t help but wonder how many safe words they used for that one?
Because apparently safe words aren’t just vital to safe BDSM relationships, but also filming on Game of Thrones. What do you think it Harington’s was? Banana? Valar morghulis? Dragon Daddy?

“Oh, I’ve been called n—-r. And it’s crazy because this has happened to me on a few occasions. I reported it to the league, and, you know, I may have said whatever I said back and I was still punished for it. But obviously it became a bigger issue when it was Russ [Westbrook], and he was still fined for it. I don’t really understand it. We’re the product. We push this league, so I don’t understand. When does our safety, when does it become important?”

Continuing, and perhaps the logical extension of years of “One more thing…” surprise announcements at Apple events, Oprah Winfrey capped off Monday’s entertainment focused-lineup.ย
The veteran entertainer will launch a show focusing on optimism, community-building, and inclusivity. After an enthusiastic preview of her show, Oprah got a hug from a visibly emotional Tim Cook. And can you blame him? Who wouldn’t be emotional listening to the Queen say nice things about you?
Also making an appearance was Oprah’s signature delivery celebrating the company of the hour: Apple.ย
