Sudan’s Bashir declares one year state of emergency

Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir declares a one-year-long state of emergency and dissolves the government in a televised address on Friday.

The announcements came after months of near daily protests since Dec 19 that have called for the president’s ouster.

Bashir said there has to be dialogue to heal the country’s political differences, and he emphasized the role of youth.

“I will remain on side of youth who represent future of Sudan,” he said.

He acknowledged poor living conditions in country.

“The demands of our people for better living conditions are lawful,” he said.

“I will not stop calling for all parties to sit at the dialogue table,” he said.

This is a developing story. More soon
