McGahn, who has cooperated extensively with Mueller’s probe, would leave after the confirmation of Trump’s Supreme Court nominee.
White House counsel Don McGahn will be leaving his post this fall, President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday.
“White House Counsel Don McGahn will be leaving his position in the fall, shortly after the confirmation (hopefully) of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the United States Supreme Court. I have worked with Don for a long time and truly appreciate his service,” the president wrote in a tweet.

McGahn grabbed headlines earlier this month after it was revealed that he has cooperated extensively with special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe.
Trump, however, has stated that he gave McGahn permission to fully cooperate with the investigation, which he has regularly dismissed as a “witch hunt.”
