Ariana Grande’s ‘Thank U, Next’ Video Has Arrived To Break The Internet, At Last

YouTube

Get in, loser! Ariana Grande‘s much-hyped “Thank U, Next” video is finally here, and it’s everything you dreamed it’d be.

As previously teased, Ari took cues from four iconic early-2000s rom-coms (most ambitious crossover event in history?!): Mean Girls, Legally Blonde, Bring It On, and 13 Going On 30. The Sweetener singer channels Regina George first, flipping through her own “Burn Book” with pics of her exes (the Pete Davidson page, it must be noted, has “i love u always” and “sry i dipped” written on it, as well as the possibly BDE-referencing “HUUUUUGE”). Ariana and her real-life BFFs then channel the Plastics with their own “Jingle Bell Rock” dance, complete with a Kris Jenner cameo as the camera-wielding, pink sweatsuit-wearing Mrs. George.

From there, Ari recreates the tooth-brushing scene from Bring It On with Victorious co-star Matt Bennett, plays with her own dollhouse à la Jenna Rink in 13 Going on 30, then storms Harvard with Toulouse in tow for a Legally Blonde-style finale that proves “Thank U, Next” and “bend and snap” go hand-in-hand. Other notable cameos include Jennifer Coolidge (Legally Blonde‘s Paulette), Jonathan Bennett (Mean Girls‘s Aaron Samuels), and Troye Sivan. See it all in the video below.

Ariana’s fetch new video arrives during a huge week for her — she premiered a new docu-series, Dangerous Woman Diaries, on Thursday, and she still has the No. 1 song in the country with “Thank U, Next,” as “Breathin” continues to climb the charts. What, like it’s hard?!

TMZ Releases Video of Kareem Hunt in Physical Altercation with Woman in February

TMZ Sports released surveillance video Friday of Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt pushing and kicking a woman at a Cleveland hotel in February.

In the video, Hunt can be seen arguing with a 19-year-old woman and then shoving her. After she hits him in the face, Hunt pushes another man into the woman and then kicks her while she is crouching low to the ground.

While it was first reported shortly after it occurred in February, Hunt has not been punished by the NFL.

Per Benjamin Allbright of Mile High Sports Radio, sources said both the NFL and the Chiefs knew about the existence of the video.

According to TMZ Sports, Hunt was not arrested after police were called Feb. 10 since they were unable to determine if a crime had been committed.

The woman reportedly told police they “kicked her out of his room after she refused to hook up with one of the men in Kareem’s entourage.”

Hunt’s friends then reportedly told police the woman used the N-word and struck another woman after being asked to leave.

ESPN’s Mina Kimes tweeted a statement made by Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt in August on the matter:

Mina Kimes @minakimes

this is what the Chiefs’ CEO said in August about the charges against Hunt (via https://t.co/7Htm6U2Pfc) https://t.co/llErQZMeyM

The 23-year-old Hunt is in the midst of his second NFL season, and he has been a huge part of the 9-2 Chiefs’ offensive success.

Through 11 games, Hunt has rushed for 824 yards and seven touchdowns while catching 26 passes for 378 yards and seven scores.

TMZ Sports reached out to the NFL to gather information regarding whether the league sought out the hotel video involving Hunt, but the NFL has yet to respond.

Zayn Puts A Cheating Partner On Blast With Slick New Song ‘Rainberry’

Getty Images

Just when you thought Zayn would abandon the concept of an album altogether and just keep slinging out buzz singles for the rest of his life, he’s surprised us with an actual, legitimate announcement for LP No. 2.

Icarus Falls, his first album since 2016’s sprawling Mind of Mine, will arrive on December 14. He’s already released seven new singles this year, so if you’re worried that we’ve already heard most of the project, rest assured that’s not the case — Icarus Falls will comprise a whopping 27 songs.

To celebrate his big news, Zayn shared one of those tracks on Friday (November 30): the slick and moody “Rainberry,” which puts a potentially cheating partner on blast. What is a “rainberry,” you may ask? Who knows, but Z makes it sound mighty fine while letting his falsetto fly and sinking deeper and deeper into paranoia. “Too many bones inside your closet you thought you buried deep,” he sings. “But they never let me get a minute of peace / How do you sleep?”

“Rainberry” follows a slew of genre-spanning tracks Zayn’s released this year, including “Entertainer,” “Sour Diesel,” “Let Me,” “Fingers,” “Too Much,” and the Nicki Minaj-assisted “No Candle No Light.” All six of those will appear on Icarus Falls (his Bollywood cover will not), and at the rate things are going, Z may have one of the most eclectic albums of the year on his hands.

Ed Oliver Won’t Play in Houston’s Bowl Game to Train for 2019 NFL Draft

Michael Wyke/Associated Press

Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver, widely regarded as one of the top NFL prospects in the country, has officially thrown his hat in the ring for the 2019 NFL draft.

Oliver announced Friday he will skip the Cougars’ bowl game in order to begin his draft preparations:

Ed Oliver @Edoliver_11

Excited for the next chapter https://t.co/oAXrxeADKm

His decision hardly comes as a surprise, as he said in a statement in March that the 2018 season would be his last in college football.

“This was a dream of mine coming in,” Oliver said. “I knew I was going on a business trip, and whether my business trip was three years or four years it just depended on how early I got on the field and how effective I was.”

There will be a spotlight on Oliver during the predraft process after he missed four games for the Cougars in 2018 due to a knee injury. He was originally listed as day-to-day with a bruised knee suffered after taking a low block during an Oct. 20 game against Navy.

Despite the injury, Oliver’s draft stock doesn’t seem to have taken a hit. B/R’s Matt Miller has the 20-year-old ranked as the No. 2 overall prospect on his latest big board behind Ohio State’s Nick Bosa.

In September, Miller called Oliver an “athletic marvel” who was “unstoppable” during his college years and generated comparisons to Los Angeles Rams star Aaron Donald.

During Oliver’s three seasons at Houston, he recorded 53 tackles for loss and 13.5 sacks and was named a first-team All-American in 2016 and 2017.

Oliver has nothing left to prove in college and possesses a sky-high draft ceiling. He will now attempt to become the first Houston player ever selected No. 1 overall in the NFL draft.

Strongmen strut their stuff on G20 stage

Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammad bin Salman al-Saud shares a laugh with Russian President Vladimir Putin during the opening day of Argentina G20 Leaders’ Summit 2018 | Amilcar Orfali/Getty Images

Russian leader and Saudi crown prince set tone with jovial greeting.

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — The strongmen are kicking ass on the world stage, and they know it.

Only moments after European Council President Donald Tusk used a news conference to urge G20 leaders to address Russia’s aggression in Ukraine and Saudi Arabia’s evident disregard for human rights, video footage of the leaders’ arrivals showed Russian President Vladimir Putin slapping hands in jovial fashion with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as they took their seats for the summit’s opening session.

It was a striking display of locker-room camaraderie between the two vilified tough guys — Putin, the former KGB agent who has been Russia’s supreme leader for just shy of two decades, and the young monarch who, according to Western and Turkish intelligence, ordered the killing and dismemberment of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

— NBC News (@NBCNews) November 30, 2018

If Putin was feeling any concern about Tusk’s vow that Western economic sanctions against Russia would be extended yet again in January, he did not give the smallest hint of it. And if the crown prince was worried in the slightest about the international condemnation that he has faced in recent weeks, there was also no indication as he adjusted his gold-trimmed thawb and took his seat at the conference table.

Indeed, the only tough guy in Argentina who seems to be having the slightest trouble these days is U.S. President Donald Trump, who flew to Buenos Aires amid the latest blockbuster developments in special prosecutor Robert Mueller’s investigation of Russian collusion with the Trump election campaign.

Still, Trump, while conceding nothing, signalled that the latest Mueller development remains very much on his mind.

The president glibly brushed aside the news with a dismissive tweet that declared, once again, his usual reply to Mueller’s investigation: “Witch hunt!”

In a twist, Trump, who has long admired powerful authoritarian leaders, finds himself shunning the very men that he has praised for exuding strength.

White House officials have been at pains to fill the president’s schedule to limit the possibility of a lengthy interaction with Putin or MBS. And aides were frustrated by reports — notably in state media in Saudi Arabia and Russia — that Trump was planning to hold an informal chat with Putin and that he met with MBS.

Trump on Thursday canceled his planned meeting with Putin, calling it a response to the military operations against Ukraine. In response, Putin’s spokesman noted that the Russian leader would have a couple of hours of extra time for “useful meetings” at the G20.

U.S. aides dismissed the Russian report of a Putin-Trump huddle being back on, arguing it was an effort by the Russians to save face after the cancelation. And they acknowledged that Trump “exchanged pleasantries” with MBS as he did with many other world leaders.

“We had no discussion. We had no discussion. We might. But we had none,” Trump said when asked about the report that he met with MBS.

Asked by a reporter whether he’s going to be exchanging pleasantries with Putin during the summit, Trump said, “I don’t know. Not particularly. I don’t know.”

Toothless West

For Tusk and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, the evident self-assuredness of the Russian and Saudi leaders highlighted just how powerless the West has been in responding to what it views as grave transgressions of international norms.

“This is a difficult moment for international cooperation,” Tusk said at a joint news conference with Juncker. “I would like to appeal to the leaders to use this summit, including their bilateral and informal exchanges, to seriously discuss real issues such as trade wars, the tragic situation in Syria and Yemen and the Russian aggression in Ukraine. I see no reason why the G20 leaders shouldn’t have a meaningful discussion about solving these problems. Especially because all the instruments lie in their hands. The only condition is good will.”

Tusk, in an unsubtle jab at the Saudi prince, continued, “We also cannot underestimate other issues which remain difficult for some leaders, such as human rights, freedom of press and basic safety of journalists. It is our obligation, as the EU, to take this opportunity and press our partners to respect these basic principles.”

The EU countries at the #G20Summit coordinated position on trade, climate. On #Khashoggi we agreed urgent need to establish what happened on 2 October. Given outstanding nature of the case, the international dimension could enhance the credibility of the Saudi investigation. pic.twitter.com/w0YdrgSPuY

— Donald Tusk (@eucopresident) November 30, 2018

But the policy response so far has been weak. In a follow-up tweet, Tusk said European leaders were united in demanding further investigation of what happened to Khashoggi in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

Even as Tusk reiterated his belief that sanctions already in place against Russia would be extended, there was no announcement of any new punitive measures in response to the recent naval attack on Ukrainian ships in the Sea of Azov.

Apart from stern criticism, there has been no policy action by the EU. One senior official said that such responses were in the hands of national governments, as happened in Germany, which has banned arms sales to Saudi Arabia.

French President Emmanuel Macron interacted briefly with the Saudi prince, and made an effort to rebuke  him.

A video of their encounter picked up the prince telling Macron “don’t worry” and the French president replying, “I do worry. I am worried.”

Later in the conversation Macron added, “You never listen to me.” And the prince replied, “I will listen, of course.”

Asked about the conversation, a French official told reporters that Macron had conveyed “a very firm” message.

Beyond the prince and the czar, the G20 summit as a whole was largely shaping up to be a sideline event to the bilateral trade negotiations between Trump and another strongman: Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The two are scheduled to meet over dinner on Saturday night in an effort to find a truce in their trade dispute. An all-out trade war between the U.S. and China would potentially set off a devastating domino effect, putting all of the economic powers at the summit under severe pressure.

Trump briefly speaks with Saudi crown prince at G-20 summit

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — President Donald Trump spoke briefly with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Friday on the sidelines of the G-20 summit, a move that could further inflame tensions both in the United States and abroad.

The exchange between the two leaders was not scheduled, and comes after U.S. and Turkish intelligence have both reportedly concluded that the crown prince ordered the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Story Continued Below

A White House official downplayed the interaction, saying, “They exchanged pleasantries at the leaders session as he did with nearly every leader in attendance.”

And Trump insisted there was no substantive meeting, telling reporters, “We had no discussion. We had no discussion. We might. But we had none.”

Trump has said that he is unsure whether the crown prince was involved in ordering Khashoggi’s murder, and that he stands by the United States’ partnership with the Saudis. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, however, have called on the president to heavily sanction Saudi Arabia.

Khashoggi, who was living in exile in the United States, was last seen entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in October. Saudi officials have shifted their story multiple times about Khashoggi’s murder, eventually arresting 18 people and acknowledging that he was killed was visiting the consulate.

Earlier in the week, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said at a press briefing that a formal meeting was not planned due to the president’s tight schedule, but she would not rule out that the two could interact.

There’s also been heightened anticipation about whether Trump will interact with Russian President Vladimir Putin, especially after the White House yanked a formal meeting with him, citing Russia’s capture of several Ukrainian ships earlier this week.

Asked by a reporter on Friday whether he’s going to be exchanging pleasantries with Putin during the summit, Trump said, “I don’t know. Not particularly. I don’t know.”

Joakim Noah, Grizzlies Reportedly Agree to 1-Year, Veteran’s Minimum Contract

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - DECEMBER 04: Joakim Noah #13 of the New York Knicks reacts in the second half of a game against the Indiana Pacers at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on December 4, 2017 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Center Joakim Noah agreed to terms on a one-year deal for the veteran’s minimum with the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.

The move comes after the New York Knicks waived Noah using the stretch provision.

Bobby Marks @BobbyMarks42

The $6.4M Joakim Noah cap hit via the stretch provision starting in 2019-20 is now the highest cap hit since the provision was implemented with the 2011 CBA. Deron Williams ($5.5M), Josh Smith ($5.4M) and Luol Deng ($5M) round out the top 4.

Noah averaged 5.0 points and 8.8 rebounds in his first season with the team before suffering a season-ending knee injury in February 2017. The NBA also suspended him for 20 games in March 2017 after he violated the league’s anti-drug policy. A month later, Noah underwent shoulder surgery.

I’m dealing with a lot of adversity right now,” Noah said in October 2017, per the New York Daily News Stefan Bondy. “It’s just where the cards fall. It’s like being a rookie all over again. I have to prove myself. And I have to prove myself everyday. It’s a challenge. It’s a challenge I put myself in.”

Noah didn’t make his 2017-18 debut until late November, and he appeared in seven games before leaving the team for “personal reasons,” according to ESPN.com’s Ian Begley and Adrian Wojnarowski.

Charania reported for Yahoo Sports that Noah had a “heated verbal exchange” with then-Knicks head coach Jeff Hornacek at practice the day after the Knicks lost 123-112 to the Golden State Warriors on Jan. 23, 2018.

At that point, it seemed clear the relationship between Noah and the Knicks had been broken beyond repair, and the only question was whether the team would be able to trade him or instead have to eat a lot of money to release him.

Although the Knicks will be paying Noah well beyond his departure from the team, stretching his contract freed up enough salary-cap space for the team to be a major player in the 2019 free-agency sweepstakes.

Knicks Film School @KnickFilmSchool

To clarify:

By stretching Noah, the Knicks can essentially have max space in 2019 for a 7-9 year free agent like Kyrie Irving.

To have enough cap space for a 10+ year free agent, like Kevin Durant, they still need to clear ~$7MM in space https://t.co/m8fn1GXFmb

In his prime years with the Chicago Bulls, Noah was never a strong scorer and relied largely on his defense to earn two All-Star appearances and a first-team All-NBA selection in 2013-14.

Now he can no longer defend at a high level and is still a poor scorer. According to NBA.com, the Knicks allowed three more points per 100 possessions when he was on the court in 2016-17. Opponents also shot 61.3 percent inside six feet when matched up against Noah.

And that was before he had surgery on his knee.

Perhaps the 33-year-old will thrive now he’s no longer a member of the Knicks, a franchise that hasn’t exactly been a pillar of stability in recent seasons. He may also be carrying a chip on his shoulder based on the circumstances of his departure from New York.

Providing further motivation, this could be Noah’s last shot at prolonging his NBA career.

Roy Hibbert‘s rapid decline is a testament to how quickly teams can sour on aging centers. Hibbert was an All-Star and All-Defensive second-team player in 2014. Four years later, he retired after failing to sign with a team in 2017-18.

With Marc Gasol locked in as the starting center, the Grizzlies don’t need Noah to occupy a big role in their rotation. His arrival also allows for Jaren Jackson Jr. to spend more time at power forward, which is likely his best position.

Joining a playoff contender could also ease any fears about whether Noah will be disruptive behind the scenes like he was in New York.

Memphis had plenty of drama last year centered around Gasol and former head coach David Fizdale. Otherwise, the franchise has largely been devoid of any on-court chemistry issues. The stability and experience in the Grizzlies’ locker room is a much better fit for Noah than the Knicks were.

Considering his value has dropped so significantly, there isn’t a ton of risk for the Grizzlies in signing Noah. They didn’t fall into the trap of giving up any assets for him and waited until he hit the open market as a free agent.

If his days as a meaningful contributor are truly over, then moving on from Noah shouldn’t be too difficult.

G7 declares ‘unwavering support’ for Ukraine over Russia standoff

Kiev, Ukraine – Foreign ministers from the world’s seven biggest economies, known as the Group of Seven or G7, have condemned Russia’s actions in Kerch Strait as they reaffirmed their “unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity”.

A statement by G7 members – the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the High Representative of the European Union – on Friday said there was “no justification” for Russia’s use of military force against Ukrainian ships and naval personnel.

“We urge restraint, due respect for international law, and the prevention of any further escalation. We call on Russia to release the detained crew and vessels and refrain from impeding lawful passage through the Kerch Strait,” the statement read.

“We, the G7, once again reiterate that ‎we do not, and will never, recognise Russia’s illegal annexation of the Crimean peninsula, and we reaffirm our unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.‎”

Olexiy Makeyev, political director at Ukraine’s foreign ministry, told Al Jazeera that Ukraine was defending itself “from the Russian aggression”.

“We count on support of our American partners and we enjoy a full support also by the European Union,” he said.

Ukraine seeks global support

The G7 statement came a day after US President Donald Trump cancelled his meeting with Russia’s Vladimir Putin, saying the much-anticipated talks at the G20 could not take place while Ukrainian sailors were still in captivity.

Russia on Sunday blocked three Ukrainian military vessels from passing through the Kerch Strait on their way from the Black Sea to the Sea of Azov – the shared internal waters of both countries.

The confrontation escalated after Russia seized the three vessels and captured 24 Ukrainian crew members, who were later put under a 60-day pre-trial detention and sent to Moscow. Ukraine said the detainees were Russia’s “prisoners of war”.

Russia insists the Ukrainian sailors crossed into Russian waters illegally, with Putin saying the border guards “fulfilled their military duty” in seizing the ships.

As the threat of a “total war” grew, Kiev introduced martial law in 10 of its 27 regions for 30 days “to avoid an all-out Russian invasion”.

On Friday, Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko told Britain’s Sky News broadcaster that Trump’s decision to cancel the scheduled talks with Putin was an evidence of the Russian leader’s “isolation”.

“After a chemical attack in Britain, after a terror attack on MH17, after the Russian aggression in the east of my country, after Syria, after all these catastrophic actions, Putin is in isolation,” he said.

Ban on Russian men entry

Also on Friday, Ukraine barred Russian men between the age of 16 and 60 from entering the country.

Andriy Demchenko, Ukraine’s border service spokesperson, said it was not a blanket ban.

“Russian citizens will go through an additional interview at the border and their previous visits to Ukraine will be scrutinised,” he told Al Jazeera, adding that the decision to block them will be taken on a case by case basis, with necessary exceptions.

“Exceptions might be applied to individuals with diplomatic status, transport personnel, people with temporary or permanent residency in Ukraine, and those coming for humanitarian purposes,” he said.

Poroshenko said the move would “prevent the Russian Federation from forming detachments of private armies” in Ukraine “similar to the operations they tried to carry out in 2014”.

Ukraine believes that Russian citizens and soldiers are fighting alongside Moscow-backed rebels, who in 2014 seized parts of Ukraine’s Donetsk and Luhansk regions, declaring them independent from Kiev.

Ukraine has also launched military drills in the Sea of Azov, with its soldiers role-playing the repelling of an attempted Russian landing on the coast.

Maria Zakharova, Russia’s foreign ministry spokesperson, said on Friday that Moscow would not implement a similar travel ban on Ukrainians as it would be “irrational”.

She accused Poroshenko of using martial law as a way of “raising his falling electoral ratings” in an attempt to earn points during the “latest Russophobic wave”.

The conflict in eastern Ukraine has killed more than 10,000 people, including civilians.

White House, Kremlin clash on plans for Trump-Putin chat

Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin

Foreign Policy

U.S. and Russian officials also disagree on the real reason why Trump cancelled a planned sit down with the Russian leader.

BUENOS AIRES — The White House denied Friday that President Donald Trump has a pull-aside meeting planned with Russian President Vladimir Putin after the Kremlin said an impromptu meeting between the two leaders would occur.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Russian news agency RIA Novosti that the two leaders may chat “on their feet” during the G-20 summit, according to a Bloomberg report. Asked for comment, a White House official said, “There is no scheduled pull-aside.”

Story Continued Below

But that wouldn’t preclude the two men from speaking if, as is likely, they cross paths at the annual summit of the world’s leading economic powers. White House officials have not ruled out the possibility that Trump could speak informally with foreign leaders he is not officially scheduled to meet.

Trump did not interact with Putin during a group photo with world leaders at the summit, instead chatting mostly with French President Emmanuel Macron. And at the start of a formal meeting between the G-20 leaders, he was seen talking with British Prime Minister Theresa May.

Trump canceled his planned meeting with Putin with a Thursday tweet from Air Force One, shortly after he departed for Argentina for the summit. He cited Russia’s capture of several Ukrainian ships earlier this week in waters off the Crimean peninsula, which Moscow annexed in 2014, and which Trump officials have denounced as an act of Russian aggression. The decision to scuttle the meeting surprised and irked Russia.

In a statement, White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders denied that the Putin meeting was scratched because of the news that Trump’s former lawyer pleaded guilty to lying about the extent to which he and Trump discussed a Moscow real-estate project during the 2016 presidential campaign.

“The Russian Witch Hunt Hoax, which is hopefully now nearing an end, is doing very well. Unfortunately, it probably does undermine our relationship with Russia,” White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement. “However, the reason for our canceled meeting is Ukraine. Hopefully, that will be resolved soon so that productive conversations can begin.”

But Russian government officials and media outlets have cast public doubt on that assertion.

“Was Ukraine’s provocation in the Kerch Strait the true reason for the cancellation?” Russia’s foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told reporters on Friday, according to Russia’s TASS news service. “We have heard the official explanation and taken note of it.””But is it true? I think the true reason is rooted in the domestic political situation in the United States, which is crucial for decision-making,” Zakharova added.

A headline in the Kremlin-funded news outlet RT struck a similar note:“Bad publicity? Cohen? Russiagate? Many reasons Trump canceled Putin meeting, but Ukraine isn’t one,” it declared.

Tiffany Young On Her ‘Naughty And Nice’ New Single And What’s On Her Holiday Playlist

Getty Images

‘Tis the season for cozying up, binging cheesy rom-coms, and listening to holiday music on loop (seriously, Christmas songs are unavoidable this time of year). While most artists put their unique spin on the jolly classics, few disrupt the holiday vibe with memorable original tracks of their own. But Tiffany Young, holiday enthusiast, isn’t afraid to take a risk.

On Friday (November 30), the pop star dropped her “sweet and cool” new holiday single, “Peppermint.” The sultry song is a strong showcase for Young’s velvety vocals as she coos, “You’ve been waiting to unwrap me / In your arms is where I’m happy.”

But “Peppermint” is more than a display of Young’s sweet-and-sensual musicality and flirtatious wordplay; it’s a gift for her fans. “I just wanted to give all of that love back.”

“It’s definitely inspired by my love of staying in, snuggling up by the fireside, and wearing pajamas all day,” Young said of the “naughty and nice” track, which she also co-wrote. “Christmas, for me, was more special when it was celebrated staying in with a loved one, or loved ones, relaxing and listening to music.”

Young’s love of holiday music is no secret — this year, she started listening to Christmas music in September — so MTV News asked the “Teach You” singer to break down the essential tracks on her Christmas playlist.

  • Mariah Carey, “All I Want For Christmas Is You”

“It’s just timeless. It’s one of my favorite songs to listen to even when it’s not Christmas. I remember being young when I first heard it, and my sister was always playing it. It’s a song that I performed when I was in Korea. It’s just always been very special to me. It reminds me of family and my bandmates, being on stage with them. It’s so sweet, and it just gets you in your feels.”

  • Wham!, “Last Christmas”

“I’m huge George Michael fan, and that version is a classic. I get festive pretty early, and that’s the first song on for me. I remember shooting my December cover in September, and I was listening to that on set. ‘George Michael’ is all I need to say.”

  • Babyface, “White Christmas”

“Actually, the whole Christmas with Babyface album is going on my playlist. I love that album. The way he arranged all of these classic songs — it’s smooth, it’s sexy, it’s cool, and it’s all the things I love. I like listening to full albums during the holidays. I play one every other hour.”

  • Judy Garland, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”

“It’s so classic. It brings all of these colors and memories to my mind. It makes me think of visiting Santa when I was younger. That version is always nostalgic. I was listening to it earlier! And Judy Garland’s version is my favorite.”

  • Frank Sinatra, “Jingle Bells”

“It was 2014, and I was on tour getting Christmas songs ready, and I was listening to a lot of Frank Sinatra. I always left this song on while I was stretching, which is weird! I just played this one all the time on tour. I really love the classics. When you listen to these songs, it brings you back, but it also inspires new ideas and ways you want to sing it. It makes you want to create more. That’s what I love about this song; it inspires me.”

  • Michael Bublé, “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas”

“I love this sound and arrangement. It was put together so well, and it’s something that I would like to try. It reminds me of walking in the snow. I remember listening to this one a lot on tour as well. His tone and delivery — and that style of singing — is always going to be timeless.”

(“My bandmates loved my Christmas playlists,” Young added.)

  • *NSYNC, “Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays”

“This just reminds me of being a teenager and having crushes. I remember holding onto that CD — I listened to it non-stop. I would listen to the radio just for the chance of hearing this song. It reminds me of my life before I went to Korea. I still remember the cover!”

  • The Jackson 5, “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus”

“That song was always on when I was a kid. I would unwrap presents to that song. It reminds me of my grandpa and Christmas morning and eggnog. It brings me back to this sense of childhood innocence. I thank my mom for giving me her music taste. She would always play this album.”

  • Tiffany Young, “Peppermint”

“It’s very current and now and me. I wanted it to be a gift to my fans and everyone who wants to enjoy snuggling in and listening to a sweet-and-cool type of song. The songwriting process started off with me throwing out any winter-related words possible, and it snowballed into ‘Peppermint.’ I wanted it to be more laid-back and relaxed compared to all of the other productions that I’ve done.
