Justin Bieber Is Releasing A Greatest Hits Album — But Will There Be New Music?

Getty Images

Wanna feel old? Justin Bieber‘s career turns 10 this year. Yes, ten. Belieb it or not.

Back in 2009, the then-teenage YouTuber caught Scooter Braun’s attention and released his first EP, My World, which boasted fan-favorite bops like “One Time” and “One Less Lonely Girl.” The rest, of course, is history: four studio albums, four world tours, and three No. 1 hits later, JB is unquestionable pop royalty.

To celebrate that defining (though plenty topsy-turvy) decade, the newly married singer is compiling all of his best songs into a greatest hits collection called, appropriately, The Best. Bieber hasn’t commented on the release yet, but Universal Music Japan confirmed the news on Instagram, unveiling the album’s black-and-white cover and revealing its release date: February 27, just a few days before the pop star’s 25th birthday.

Instagram

With four albums under his belt, Bieber certainly has no shortage of material to fill out the album’s tracklist. But it’ll be interesting to see if he uses the compilation as a chance to drop new music. The “Sorry” hitmaker has remained mum about his recent time in the studio, but on Instagram last year, he did hint that something’s in the pipeline. Alongside a video of a young fan who was worried he’d quit music indefinitely, JB wrote, “Don’t believe everything you read sweet little girl. You will hear something from me sooner than you think.”

That promise — coupled with Braun’s since-deleted tweet about #JB5 arriving in 2019 — could mean we’ll hear fresh material soon. Either way, get excited to celebrate The Best of the Biebs next month!

Warriors News: Team Expects Klay Thompson to Stay Rather Than Join Lakers

Steve Dykes/Associated Press

The Golden State Warriors reportedly expect shooting guard Klay Thompson to re-sign during or before the upcoming offseason.

According to The Athletic’s Ethan Strauss, there is an “expectation within and outside” the Warriors organization that Thompson will remain with Golden State.

Strauss noted that due to the perception that Thompson isn’t going anywhere, the Los Angeles Lakers are the only team that has been seriously mentioned as a threat to sign him away from Golden State.

Thompson is an L.A. native, and his father, Mychal Thompson, starred for the Lakers for five seasons and won two championships with them.

Also, Thompson would undoubtedly be a great fit alongside LeBron James in Los Angeles given his shooting ability.

While Thompson takes a backseat to Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant at times with the Warriors, he is still a four-time All-Star who is having another solid year with 21.6 points per game and 2.7 three-pointers made per contest.

Also, if Durant leaves the Warriors in free agency, Thompson would go back to being the No. 2 scoring option behind Curry.

In August, Thompson spoke with Mark Medina of the Mercury News and expressed his desire to remain with the Warriors over the long haul: “I’ve said it many times before: I would like to be a Warrior for life. Contract negotiations are way down the line. But I think we all have the same interest. I would love to be here for the rest of my career.”

Given his offensive acumen, Thompson would undoubtedly command a huge contract on the open market.

He has been inconsistent at times this season, but he may be hitting his stride after dropping 43 points on the New York Knicks on Tuesday.

Thompson has already won three NBA championships with the Dubs, and if he can help lead them to another this season, it may be tough to walk away from that kind of success.

Normani Barges Into 2019 With The Sultry Sam Smith Collab ‘Dancing With A Stranger’

Getty Images

In fall 2017, Sam Smith stepped into James Corden’s SUV for a particularly memorable Carpool Karaoke segment. In it, he got a surprise from the ladies of Fifth Harmony, his well-documented absolute faves, and the gang sang his choice 5H cut, “Work From Home,” all together. It was a nice moment.

Since then, the 5H members have gone their separate ways, all launching solo endeavors in 2018, and Smith has teamed up with Calvin Harris for a house track and contributed a song to Netflix’s reboot of Watership Down. But now, Sam’s ultimate dream has been realized, thanks to a new collab with Normani.

On the sultry “Dancing With a Stranger,” the pair flex their respective cavernous voices, with Smith’s warm depths mirroring Normani’s airier delivery. Though the song tackles the mystery and excitement of new possibilities in the wake of heartbreak, the beat’s very reminiscent of Ariana Grande’s preservation anthem “Breathin,” which makes the twin voices on “Dancing With a Stranger” feel even more resilient.

It might be a nice surprise on Normani’s live set, as she takes her solo material on the road opening for Ari on the mega Sweetener World Tour beginning in March. (She just hit the cover of Billboard, too.) Smith, for his part, celebrated the “gorjjjjy” song’s release with a glass of wine and some selections from Patti Smith’s memoir, M Train. Good stuff.

Check out “Dancing With a Stranger” above. Maybe throw it on as you go out and dance with strangers.

‘Bird Box’ challenge to blame for car wreck in Utah, police say

Despite warnings from Netflix and just general common sense, it looks like people are still participating in that stupid Bird Box Challenge. Now, it has reportedly caused a car crash.

On Friday morning, the Layton Police Department of Layton, Utah shared the images showing the aftermath of a car crash in which one of the drivers was allegedly trying to drive with their eyes covered. They reportedly called out the Bird Box Challenge specifically.

Bird Box Challenge while driving…predictable result. This happened on Monday as a result of the driver covering her eyes while driving on Layton Parkway. Luckily no injuries. pic.twitter.com/4DvYzrmDA2

— Layton Police (@laytonpolice) January 11, 2019

Police told KSL that the driver, a 17-year-old girl, was driving the pickup truck seen in the photos above on Monday when the incident occurred. Additionally, Layton Police Lt. Travis Lyman said of the 17-year-old driver:

“Apparently, as a part of this ‘Bird Box Challenge,’ (the driver) used her beanie to pull over her eyes as she was driving on Layton Parkway, and she ended up losing control of her car and skidded into the westbound lanes of Layton Parkway and hit another car and ended up hitting a light pole as well.”

Of course, if you’ve seen Bird Box, you know there’s a scene in which several characters make a white-knuckle drive in a car with the windows covered, and it’s hardly a smooth ride.

SEE ALSO: Absolutely no one knows the meaning of ‘Bird Box’ so just stop asking

It’s also — and I can’t believe we’re at the point where this actually has to be said — an incredibly dangerous stunt to pull off the in real world.

Luckily, no one was hurt as a result of the crash. But whatever punishment the driver faces, authorities should also consider revoking their Netflix account if this is how they’re gonna behave.

Report: Gregg Williams Expected to Be Jets Defensive Coordinator Under Adam Gase

Gregg Williams is headed back to the sidelines.

On Friday, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reported the New York Jets are in talks with Williams to become their new defensive coordinator under expected head coach Adam Gase.

This comes after Dan Graziano and Pat McManamon of ESPN reported the Cleveland Browns fired him from his role as defensive coordinator following the 2018 season.

The Browns hired Williams as their defensive coordinator prior to the 2017 season, and he served as the interim head coach in 2018 after the firing of Hue Jackson. Chris Mortensen of ESPN reported Freddie Kitchens would be the Browns’ next head coach on Wednesday.

Williams went 5-3 in eight games as head coach, which is a solid record with almost any team but especially notable in Cleveland considering the franchise won just one game in the previous two seasons combined.

It was also an improvement over his first stint as head coach when he went 17-31 in three seasons leading the Buffalo Bills from 2001 through 2003.

Williams has been a defensive coach for much of his career, serving as the defensive coordinator of the Tennessee Titans, Washington, Jacksonville Jaguars, New Orleans Saints, St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams and Browns since 1997.

The NFL notably suspended him in 2012 for his role in helping orchestrate the bounty scandal when he was with the Saints, in which players would be paid for hits that injured opponents. It was an indefinite suspension at the time, but the Rams hired him as their defensive coordinator heading into the 2014 season.

Despite making headlines for the suspension, Williams turned heads by guiding the Browns to respectability in the 2018 season. The team has enjoyed just one winning season since 2002, but he helped install optimism while coaching Baker Mayfield and others in the second half of the 2018 campaign.

He has been either the head coach or defensive coordinator for seven different defenses that finished in the top 10 in the league in yards allowed, and he will look to bolster that side of the ball and help lead the Jets to the postseason in his new position.

New York hasn’t been to the playoffs since the 2010 campaign and will need to take significant strides on the defensive side if it is going to compete in an AFC East that features Tom Brady and the New England Patriots as the dominant force.

The Jets were an ugly 25th in the league in yards allowed and 29th in points allowed during the 2018 season, and it will be up to Williams to turn those totals around as he returns to a familiar role of defensive coordinator.

‘Jeopardy’ contestant hilariously botched a question about Beyoncé and Jay-Z

2016%2f09%2f16%2f56%2fhttpsd2mhye01h4nj2n.cloudfront.netmediazgkymde2lzax.6d630By Nicole Gallucci

If you want to be the Queen of Jeopardy, we suggest you brush up on your knowledge of Queen Bey first.

On Thursday night’s episode, a Jeopardy contestant named Jessica proved she was not so well versed on the every move of Beyoncé and Jay-Z. When asked which collective name the duo used when releasing their album Everything Is Love, Jessica provided a hilariously incorrect answer.

In fact, Twitter user and Jeopardy fan @Slicklippz was so taken aback by the response that he felt compelled to rewind, record the moment, and share it with his followers.

SEE ALSO: Beyoncé and Jay-Z have proposed a challenge for their fans

“OK I’ve got something funny for you to hear. Listen to what this lady says on Jeopardy,” @Slicklippz announces before playing back the clue.

Alex Trebek then proceeds to say, “Beyoncé and  Jay-Z released the album Everything Is Love under this collective name,” and things go downhill. Within seconds, Jessica buzzes in and utters the completely incorrect and hilarious mashup of a response: “What is Bey-Z?”

What IS Bey-Z, Jessica? You tell us. It’s certainly not the name Bey and Jay go by, that’s for sure.

Much like @Slicklippz, other Beyoncé and Jay-Z fans went “Apeshit” upon hearing the guess.

Jeopardy: Beyoncé and Jay Z released the album “Everything in Love” under this collective name

Jessica: What is Bey-Z?

Alex Trebek: What is The Carter’s

She tried way too hard for that 😂😂

— reyna (@tia_reynana) January 11, 2019

LMAOO NOO JESSICA ON JEOPARDY SAID JAY-Z AND BEYONCÉ’S COLLECTIVE NAME WAS “BEY-Z” 😂😭 love the creativity tho hahahaha

— K. Lapu (@krislapu) January 11, 2019

Jeopardy question, just now: “In 2018, Beyonce and Jay-Z released an album titled ‘Everything is Love’ under this joint name”

This woman had the nerve to say “What is Bey-Z”

Bro.

— mp (@friasmp) January 11, 2019

On today’s Jeopardy, Alex asked what band name Beyonce and Jay-Z went by for their last album and this white lady buzzed in and answered, in all confidence, “What is Bey-Z?” pic.twitter.com/JIv8XieAop

— Joe Lamour 🥂 (@lamour) January 11, 2019

the returning champion on #Jeopardy had the nerve to say that Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s joint album was entitled “BEY-Z” 🤯 I was appalled!!

— Brij. (@LifeAsJaneDoe) January 11, 2019

“Bey-Z” does sound perfect and I’m sure it crossed the singers’ minds when they were deciding what to call themselves as a duo, but true fans of the almighty musical couple know they go by “The Carters,” after their shared last name.

Though wildly incorrect, it was a creative and valiant on-the-spot effort, Jeopardy Jessica.

Jessica may have lost tonight, but she undoubtedly gave one of the best wrong answers of all time when she said, “Bey-Z” instead of “The Carters”. #jeopardy

 We will give you that.

Germany says Amazon’s 1-click Dash buttons violate the law

Amazon’s Dash buttons may be convenient, but a German court doesn’t like them.
2017%2f09%2f19%2ffa%2frakheadshot.f59fbBy Rachel Kraus

Amazon’s Dash buttons are perhaps the company’s most overt effort to make you forget that buying something actually means handing over your hard-earned money. Now, someone is finally calling BS.

A German court has ruled that the Dash buttons violate consumer protection laws, Reuters reports

SEE ALSO: Jeff Bezos and Amazon are nearing a super-villain level of rich

Amazon debuted Dash buttons in 2015. They are small adhesive devices, emblazoned with a product logo and connected to the Amazon app, that let customers place an order for a single item just by pushing a button. For example, a button placed next to your paper towel roll would allow you to buy your favored brand of paper towels with the push of a button as soon as you’re out. You can, of course, buy Dash buttons on Amazon.

The devices might be convenient. But the problem, according to the Munich court, is that the buttons don’t display any information about how much the item connected to the button actually costs. Therefore it breaks the consumer protection law that states that consumers have to be fully informed about the product they’re purchasing.

Germany’s consumer protection watchdog brought the case against Amazon, and says it is advocating for customers who complained. Amazon plans to fight the decision, saying customers should have the choice over whether or not to use the buttons. Germany is Amazon’s second biggest market (after North America), and Europe’s largest economy, so Amazon has plenty of skin in the game.

Amazon’s Dash buttons are part of its strategy to remove as many steps as possible between browsing for a product and actually buying something. The company patented 1-click buying back in 1999, but it has since expired

If you get consumers to skip the cart altogether, they have less time to consider whether they really want the product

But the 1-click buying concept still permeates the Amazon ecosystem: the “Buy Now” button on Amazon.com lets you skip the shopping cart, Amazon continues to push shopping with Alexa, and it has over 600 brands connected to Dash buttons. It also rolled out digital versions of the Dash buttons in 2017 that can appear in your Amazon app or even on your connected home appliances, like a smart fridge. And it has taken instant shopping further into the physical world with its cashier-less Amazon Go stores.

The impulse makes sense: I have abandoned items in my shopping cart many, many times. But if you get consumers to skip the cart altogether, they have less time to consider whether they really want the product, and whether it’s worth the money. That’s because shopping is often an emotional decision, and not necessarily a rational one, according to market research. So removing the barriers to buying — i.e., opportunities for self-reflection and critical thought — translates to more sales.

But that’s not actually the German court’s main issue with the Dash buttons. The ultimate problem was that the buttons connect to certain brands of products; Bounty, not paper towels. So in addition to not getting to see the price of the product, customers also don’t have the opportunity to compare prices. That’s where Dash buttons ran afoul of the law.

Amazon told Reuters that it plans to contest the ruling through legal channels. It went with the favored tech industry one-two counter-attack that the ruling both “stifles innovation” and removes consumer choices.
