Chrissy Teigen just got a hamster, and like any new pet owner, she has a lot of questions about her furry companion.

Like if it’s normal for the little critter to furiously gnaw at her cage? And the age old question of to touch or not to touch?

Teigen started her hamster thread by introducing the little buddy as Peanut Butter, adding that her husband, John Legend, was not as thrilled about the new addition to the family.

Luna and I bought a hamster today. Her name is peanut butter. John is not thrilled, which makes me love her more.

— christine teigen (@chrissyteigen) March 11, 2019

Teigen then went on to relay the conversation she had with the pet salesperson, and it’s pretty entertaining.

Like this glorious exchange about rice.

They told us we can feed her anything. My mom said “rice?” And they go “no, not rice”

— christine teigen (@chrissyteigen) March 11, 2019

And this slightly confusing piece of petting advice that most people would probably be reluctant to follow.

They also said “don’t really touch her for a week. Then touch her a lot or she’ll bite you” it’s very confusing, being a hamster mom

— christine teigen (@chrissyteigen) March 11, 2019

Looks like Peanut Butter will not be getting a hamster companion anytime soon.

I said “should I get two so they can have a friend?” And the lady said no, one will end up with a lot of bully scars. So any hamster tips are welcome

— christine teigen (@chrissyteigen) March 11, 2019

Teigen then lost sight of Peanut Butter for a while…

I just went to take a picture of her and I honestly can’t find her

— christine teigen (@chrissyteigen) March 11, 2019

… before finding the little friend gnawing furiously at her cage.

Is that normal? The people of Twitter weighed in.

Having established that such behaviour is, in fact, normal, Teigen wanted to assure her followers that Peanut Butter was very well taken care of.

Please don’t feel bad for her. We got her everything and more and a giant space to roam in. If I had a safe enclosure for a hamster farm, i would have that.

— christine teigen (@chrissyteigen) March 11, 2019

The only other issue was Peanut Butter apparently had some trouble figuring out how to use the hamster drinking device.

“I keep showing her and I am starting to feel dumb,” Teigen wrote.

Wait, how exactly are you “showing her,” Chrissy?

I feel like she doesn’t know how to drink out of her hamster drink thing. I keep showing her and i am starting to feel dumb

— christine teigen (@chrissyteigen) March 11, 2019

The RSPCA’s rabbit and rodent welfare expert, Jane Tyson, told Mashable that hamsters should have plenty of cage space, continuous access to drinking water and a well balanced diet. Tyson advised owners to consult a vet if they are concerned about their hamster’s behaviour.

Let’s hope Teigen continues to chronicle the life of Peanut Butter Teigen-Legend. We’re all invested in the her now.

The Philadelphia Eagles continued their defensive line retooling Monday, agreeing to a three-year, $30 million contract with Malik Jackson.

ESPN’s Josina Anderson reported the agreement, with Ian Rapoport of NFL Network confirming the terms of the deal.

Jackson, 29, spent the last three seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars before his release earlier this month. The Jaguars saved $11 million on their cap by releasing the veteran defensive lineman, who signed a six-year, $85.5 million contract with the team in 2016.

MPs to vote on May’s Brexit deal in second meaningful vote

London, United Kingdom – British Prime Minister Theresa May is expected to bring her deal back to parliament on Tuesday for a second meaningful vote.

Talks in Brussels have been deadlocked and over the weekend, it became clear that May was unable to convince EU leaders to agree to changes she was seeking to the withdrawal agreement, particularly on the so-called “backstop” – the protocol to ensure an open border is maintained in the island of Ireland.

The last time May put the deal to parliament on January 16, it suffered a major defeat as 432 MPs voted against it – just 202 supported her plan.

The UK is due to leave the EU on March 29, in just two weeks’ time.

After MPs gave her a mandate to go back to Brussels and renegotiate the deal, May gave herself until March 12 at the latest to bring a revised deal back to parliament.

The backstop, a backup mechanism that would come into place if no trade deal is agreed by the end of the withdrawal period, would keep Northern Ireland in the EU’s single market for goods, while the UK would remain in a customs union with the block.

But Eurosceptic conservative MPs, as well as the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), May’s ally in Northern Ireland, have been opposed to it arguing it would tie the UK to the EU’s trade rules indefinitely, or create a border between Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK.

The British leader has been trying to renegotiate legally binding changes with the EU which would make the deal palatable to Conservative Brexiters from the hardline European Research Group (ERG).

She has also been trying to win over Labour MPs from leave-voting constituencies with a £1.6bn ($2.1bn) fund and promises of more workers’ rights.

The EU’s Brexit negotiator, Michel Barnier, said in a series of tweets on Friday that the EU had put forward a “legally binding interpretation” of the withdrawal agreement, including giving the UK the option of leaving the customs union unilaterally.

However, the leader of the House of Commons, Andrea Leadsom, called the offer “disappointing”, saying it simply brings back to the table a previously discarded option.

There was speculation that May might pull the meaningful vote, and ask MPs to vote on a provisional deal that she could bring back to the EU with the backing of parliament. Downing Street has denied those claims.

What is expected to happen?

May’s deal is not expected to win enough support on Tuesday.

If her deal is rejected, there will be two more votes this week to give MPs the final say on ruling out a no-deal scenario. If that is passed another vote will take place to decide on delaying Brexit.

“May has two strategies: threaten no Brexit, and threaten no deal,” said Benjamin Martill, a Dahrendorf Forum researcher at the London School of Economics who studies UK-EU relations. “Threatening no deal helps with leverage with the EU, but it hasn’t really achieved much.”

Eurosceptics might be persuaded to vote for May’s deal if they believe that Brexit may be cancelled altogether.

“What you’ve seen recently is much more movement towards May credibly threatening no Brexit, which is reinforced by the Labour party now endorsing, under certain conditions, a second referendum.”

Is Brexit going to be delayed?

A Brexit delay appears to be a likely scenario.

This could be the result of MPs voting for an extension, or, if parliament does not get the opportunity to vote for an extension, May could still ask for a short technical delay to allow the UK to pass the necessary legislation to leave the EU.

Regardless of the outcome this week, the EU would have to sign off the final agreement at the next EU summit, scheduled for March 21-22.

If MPs vote for an extension of Article 50, the part of the Treaty on European Union that allows member states to withdraw from the bloc, it is unclear whether this will be a long or a short one.

May wants to avoid a long extension beyond the end of June. EU elections are scheduled for May 23-26 and the new parliament has its first sitting at the beginning of July.

Participating would put the UK government at odds with Brexiters. However British citizens would have the right to have a say on who represents them at the EU Parliament while the UK is still part of the EU.

All EU member states have to agree to an extension, and some EU leaders have expressed concern that it needs to have a specific purpose.

Will there be a second referendum?

Opposition Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn announced two weeks ago that he would back a second referendum, in what was seen as a major shift in party policy.

That said, Labour looks set to abstain from putting forward an amendment in that direction this week, but individual MPs may decide to do so.

With a number of Labour MPs against a second vote, it remains unclear whether it would find a majority in parliament.

There are reports May is under pressure to quit. Is she going to survive?

There has been speculation that the beleaguered prime minister may be forced to resign.

May has already survived a leadership challenge from within the Conservative party, which means there can’t be another one before December.

However, “parliament could choose to hold another vote of no confidence in her government, which they did after the last meaningful vote,” said Maddy Thimont Jack, a researcher at the Institute for Government in London. “It might be that at this stage some Conservatives will chose to vote against the government.”

DNC picks Milwaukee to host 2020 convention

Milwaukee

The Democratic National Committee will host its 2020 presidential convention in Milwaukee. | Mike De Sisti/Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel via AP

The Democratic National Committee has selected Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as the location for its 2020 presidential convention, according to two people familiar with the matter.

Milwaukee beat out Miami, which had mounted an unsuccessful final lobbying blitz to be the host city.

Story Continued Below

In recent weeks, top Midwestern Democrats and business leaders engaged in a frenzied effort to bring the convention to their reguin, insisting that holding it in Wisconsin would help repair the frayed relationship between the party and heartland voters. Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers, Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisc.) and even Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker were involved in the behind-the-scenes overtures to the DNC.

In August, a coalition of Midwestern senators from Minnesota to Indiana to Ohio signed on to a letter to the DNC calling for a Milwaukee selection.

“Democrats have not held a convention in the Midwest since 1996, and a Milwaukee convention would send a strong message to the nation that winning America’s heartland is a priority in the 2020 election cycle and beyond,” the group of senators wrote. “Wisconsin is a state with a deep progressive and Democratic history. It is an ideal place for our party to showcase our values, priorities and agenda in our commitment to fight for everyday Americans.”

Milwaukee made its new stadium the centerpiece of its bid. But there are still lingering concerns over whether or not the city has the hotel inventory to host a massive convention. For months, some DNC members have been complaining that Milwaukee would be “another Charlotte,” a reference to the 2012 convention host city, which struggled to accommodate the influx of people.

Milwaukee’s team has been adamant that they have enough hotel rooms.

Cats freak out after they see a video of autotuned cat meowing

By Harry Hill

Curiosity may kill the cats but autotune just makes them jump around a lot.

YouTuber Hosea Baker uploaded a video of his cats Zoe and Scarlett totally geeking out while watching a viral video of an autotuned cat. They jump, dive, and hiss at the computer in an attempt to expose the sound.

The source of the purring is from a Bengal cat named Elton, which is fitting for a singing cat. The original clip was originally uploaded by Joaquin Baldwin, a feature animation layout artist at Disney.

Luka Doncic ‘Felt a Pop’ During Knee Injury Suffered in Mavs’ Loss to Rockets

Jim Mone/Associated Press

The silver lining to the Dallas Mavericks‘ 2018-19 season has been rookie Luka Doncic, but the 20-year-old phenom is reportedly dealing with a knee injury.

According to Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News, Doncic said he “felt a pop” in his knee during Sunday’s 94-93 loss to the Houston Rockets. Fraley noted the team will evaluate him before Monday’s practice.

After being selected by Atlanta at No. 3 overall—then promptly traded to Dallas for point guard Trae Young—in the 2018 NBA draft, Doncic has had a relatively clean first season. The only real points of concern have been his left and right ankles, which caused him to miss games on Jan. 31 and Feb. 22, respectively.

Doncic missed another game in early December due to a strained left hip.

When he’s been on the court, he’s been a force. Through 62 games, Doncic has led the Mavericks with 21.1 points, 7.4 rebounds and 5.6 assists a night.

With Dallas out of the playoff picture, Mavericks fans can look forward to Doncic’s teaming up with Kristaps Porzingis, whom Dallas acquired via trade from the New York Knicks.

Beto O’Rourke gets a hero’s welcome at SXSW: Documentary review

There was no missing Beto O’Rourke at the SXSW premiere on Saturday of Running with Beto, the documentary about his 2018 Senate campaign.

Even if you’d somehow overlooked all the reports that he’d be at the festival, and ignored all the chatter in lines outside the theater, it was simply impossible not to notice the excited murmuring among audience members – many of them clad in Beto O’Rourke t-shirts – when he made his way down the aisle of Austin’s Paramount Theater to take his seat.

But before we could watch him take the stage, we had a movie to watch.

SEE ALSO: The bumpiest social media moments of the 2020 campaign so far

Running with Beto, directed by David Modigliani, takes a behind-the-scenes look at O’Rourke’s campaign in the 12 months leading up to Election Day. Zipping back and forth across Texas, it chronicles his quest to visit all 254 counties, his unorthodox-for-government social media strategy, and his meteoric rise from little-known congressman to national obsession.

Naturally, O’Rourke is the star at the center of this movie, and he comes across well enough. Maybe a little too well: Even a handful of less flattering moments (like one in which O’Rourke snipes at deputy campaign manager Cynthia Cano about how crowded his schedule has become) can’t stop Running with Beto from feeling, at times, like a feature-length campaign promo.

Beto O’Rourke, the film and its rapturous SXSW reception make clear, is just getting started.

More interesting are scenes of the people in his orbit, including voter registration specialist Amanda Salas, gun control activist (and now Houston City Council candidate) Marcel McClinton, and campaign manager David Wysong.

Most delightful of these is Shannon Gay, a cheerfully foul-mouthed campaign volunteer. (“What is it about these arrogant fuckwits that they think they can make these decisions?” she says of Texas senator Ted Cruz, in explaining why she supports O’Rourke’s run against him.) She brings color and quotable lines to the film, but most importantly, she offers its best look at what O’Rourke has come to mean to his supporter.

Running with Beto‘s thesis could be summed up as, “Isn’t this guy great?” Those already in the tank for O’Rourke will surely appreciate this summary of how much he’s accomplished, and how bright his future looks still; those against him will probably remain against him. Modigliani does a better job of capturing the passion O’Rourke’s followers feel for him than he does the initial spark that ignited it.

Cms%252f2019%252f3%252f6e8067f7 b92a f7a4%252fthumb%252f00001.jpg%252foriginal.jpg?signature=h3vomukw1kgnkdcdw8rrpbhw5tg=&source=https%3a%2f%2fvdist.aws.mashable

But oh, what a passion it is. After the screening, the filmmakers and subjects finally walked onstage, O’Rourke to a standing ovation from the crowd, for a Q&A. Many of the questions began with emotional appreciations and thank yous, but the question that got the most dramatic reaction was – no surprise – “When are you going to announce your presidential campaign?”

Although O’Rourke offered a noncommittal response, the audience made clear exactly what they thought of this possibility, with loud claps and cheers.

Running with Beto concludes, necessarily, with his defeat last November, and that can’t help but come across as a bit of a buzzkill after nearly an hour and half of fiery optimism and upward momentum. But it only feels like an ending if you haven’t been paying attention. O’Rourke, the film and its rapturous SXSW reception make clear, is just getting started.

Solange, J. Cole, Ariana, And More — Here’s Your Guide To 2019 Festival Season

Getty Images

By Nicole Briese

As the weather begins to warm up (any day now!), we’ve got just one thing on our minds: festival season. Each year, at the end of winter’s long, harsh reign, we’re rewarded with a bevy of events that take all of our favorite things (music, food, booze) and combine them for extended weekends of fun.

In theory, if you had the time (and the cash) you could fill just about every calendar weekend, beginning and ending your adventures in Austin, Texas — the city’s bread and butter, SXSW, kicks things off beginning today (March 11), while the Austin City Limits Music Festival brings things home in October. As for the months in between? You can travel from Indio, California, to Spain, Japan, Denmark, and beyond.

You’d certainly never be bored: Each festival, or celebration of music, has its own unique imprint — the newly-launched End of the Rainbow, for instance, is a raver’s paradise, while heavyweights like Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, and Coachella maintain their years-long standards of excellence.

Read on for your very own guide to all the best fests of 2019, and start making those travel plans, stat.

  • The Dates: March 11-17

    The Place: Austin, Texas

Can’t Miss: Laura Jane Grace, Drinking Boys and Girls Choir, Swervedriver, Thee Oh Sees, Charlotte OC

As anyone who’s ever attended SXSW knows, this week-long Texas event is so much more than a music festival. Sure, you can discover your fair share of up-and-comers or rock out to veterans such as ‘90s shoegazers Swervedriver, but you can also take part in wellness and gaming expos, hit up conferences on everything from food to the film and television industry, and network to your heart’s content. There’s more to do than one person could ever take in (2,000-plus official performers is a lot to get through), but hey, it’s worth a shot, right?

  • The Date: April 6

The Place: Dorothea Dix Park, Raleigh, North Carolina

Can’t Miss: J. Cole (and more to be announced)

This brand new fest from North Carolina native J. Cole got off to a bit of an uncertain start — its inaugural date of September 15, 2018, which was scheduled to feature Big Sean, SZA, Young Thug and Nelly, was canceled due to Hurricane Florence. 2019 is looking up, however, with a brand new date of April 6. Ticket holders have the option to keep their passes or receive a refund in full — though if the new schedule is half as good as the first one was, we’re guessing they’ll want to keep ‘em!

  • The Dates: April 12-14, 19-21

The Place: Empire Polo Club, Indio, California

Can’t Miss: Ariana Grande, Solange, Childish Gambino, Janelle Monae, H.E.R., The 1975

By now, Coachella needs no introduction. This two-weekend-long arts and music happening in the California desert has become the go-to music destination for celebs, tastemakers, and the like. Everything about Coachella, from its uber-stylish attendees to its mind-blowing talent, seems to be a cut above: Ariana Grande has been tapped to wow its crowds and simultaneously make history — she’s the fourth female to ever headline the fest as well as the youngest female to ever take home the honor. Meanwhile, the fest will likely be Solange’s first live dates since her dropping her brand-new album, When I Get Home.

  • The Dates: April 26-28

    The Place: Virginia Beach, Virginia

Can’t Miss: Pharrell & Friends, Missy Elliott, Migos, SZA, Maggie Rogers, Anderson .Paak

Produced by Live Nation and Pharrell Williams (a native of Virginia Beach) this three-day festival on the city’s most famous stretch of sand is set to kick its inaugural year off in 2019 with a bang. “It’s unlike anything anyone’s ever seen before,” the legendary producer assured the Virginian Pilot. Judging by the list of acts, he’s not kidding: In addition to its can’t-miss headliners, everyone from Jaden Smith and Deepak Chopra to the Dave Matthews Band is scheduled to perform. And that’s not all: A basketball tournament and “programs focused on art, technology and health” are also expected to entice guests.

  • The Dates: May 16-19

    The Place: Gulf Shores, Alabama

Can’t Miss: Cardi B, Travis Scott, Khalid, Vampire Weekend, Bebe Rexha

Hangout Fest began with a bang in 2010 — not only was it the first major music festival to be held on Alabama’s Gulf Shores, its first-year lineup boasted musical heavyweights such as John Legend and The Flaming Lips. And it’s only gotten better since: 2019’s artist list includes something for just about everyone, from the punk enthusiasts who will love The Interrupters to rap fans who can take pleasure in spitting every line of headliner Cardi B’s “Money” live, to the indie heads who can rejoice with Vampire Weekend’s expanded lineup.

  • The Dates: May 24-26

The Place: Gorge Amphitheater, Quincy, Washington

Can’t Miss: Santigold, Lil Uzi Vert, Young Thug, Vic Mensa, Flosstradamus, Bassnectar

Washington’s Gorge Amphitheater is in for a big change this year with End of the Rainbow taking over for the fest formerly known as Sasquatch! The indie rock event, which featured Bon Iver, The National and Twenty One Pilots in recent years, ended its 17-year-run in 2018, making way for EOTR’s onslaught of EDM, dubstep, and rap. Santigold and Bassnectar are poised to take the stage for 2019, and camping options are available for purchase.

  • The Dates: May 30-June 1

The Place: Parc del Fòrum, Barcelona, Spain and Porto, Portugal

Can’t Miss: Solange, Cardi B, J Balvin, Rosalía, Carly Rae Jepsen, Future

Like Lollapalooza, this overseas festival has greatly expanded since its inception in 2001, growing from an audience of roughly 8,000, to a six-figure headcount. Primavera Sound (not to be confused with its Portuguese counterpart, Nos Primavera Sound) treats fest-goers to a wide-ranging variety of talent that spans nearly every genre each year, and 2019 is no exception: Everyone from Liz Phair to Erykah Badu will be on hand. Carly Rae Jepsen will be there, too, but will she have a full album to perform? We’ll have to wait and see.

  • The Dates: May 31-June 2

The Place: Randall’s Island Park, New York City, New York

Can’t Miss: Tyler, The Creator, The Strokes, Lily Allen, Florence + the Machine, Charli XCX, Lil Wayne

Not to be confused with the Oscars party of the same name, Governors Ball filled the gaping music festival void in the Big Apple in 2011 and has been gaining momentum ever since. Its sounds are diverse, its food selections are grand, and its backdrop features the city: wins all around!

  • The Dates: June 13-16

The Place: Great Park Stage, Manchester, Tennessee

Can’t Miss: Childish Gambino, Kacey Musgraves, The Lonely Island, Post Malone, Brandi Carlile

Once a modern-day nod to Woodstock chock full of jam bands like Phish and folk rockers, this four-day extravaganza of music and arts has become a venerable who’s who of Grammy winners. Song and Record of the Year winner Childish Gambino headlines on June 14, while Album of the Year songwriter Kacey Musgraves is set to appear the following day. Closing out the fest on June 16 is reigning Best Rap Album champ Cardi B and three-time winner Brandi Carlile. Oh, and The Lonely Island are stopping by ahead of their (somehow) first-ever U.S. tour. What a roster!

  • The Dates: June 21-23

The Place: The Woodlands, Dover, Delaware

Can’t Miss: TLC, Panic! at the Disco, Dashboard Confessional, Travis Scott, Courtney Barnett

Now in its seventh year, Firefly has grown into one of the most versatile music experiences out there for 2019. Music-wise, Panic! at the Disco is billed alongside acts such as Tyler, the Creator, TLC, and Vampire Weekend, while the fest’s Woodlands locale is like summer camp come to life. In between sets, you can relax in a designated hammock known as “The Nook,” groove to your own beats in the fest’s “silent disco” and explore art while traversing the pathway in between stages.

  • The Dates: June 27-30

The Place: Double JJ Resort, Rothbury, Michigan

Can’t Miss: Kygo, Bassnectar, Odesza, Zeds Dead, Alison Wonderland

A raver’s dream, Electric Forest features all of the essentials for living your best dubstep life, from fireworks displays and vibrant lights to all the EDM beats your heart could ever want for. 2019’s grooves will come courtesy of DJs Kygo and Bassnectar. Better get those glow sticks ready.

  • The Dates: June 29-July 7

    The Place: Roskilde, Denmark

Can’t Miss: Robyn, Travis Scott, The Cure, Tears for Fears, Cypress Hill

One of the oldest fests on the list, Denmark’s Roskilde (originally named Sound Festival) was dreamed up in 1971 by two high school students looking to bring music to the hippies of their generation. These days, it’s one of the largest in Europe, attracting big name talent (The Cure, Travis Scott), plus lone theater acts, daring attendees (a “naked run” takes place each year with free tickets to next year’s show to the winners), and campers galore.

  • The Dates: July 19-21

    The Place: Union Park, Chicago

Can’t Miss: HAIM, Robyn, Sky Ferreira, Neneh Cherry, Charli XCX

This Chicago festival, known for its alt-rock and indie acts, is always top-notch in the talent department, and it’s the same this year: Everyone from electro-pop princess Robyn to ‘90s darling Neneh Cherry is on tap to perform. Pitchfork is also a great place to discover new and emerging artists, however, so keep your eyes peeled for the names at the bottom of the list!

  • The Dates: August 1-4

The Place: Grant Park, Chicago, Illinois

    Can’t Miss: Ariana Grande (maybe)

What began as a touring alt-rock fest in 1997 as founded by Jane’s Addiction singer Perry Farrell has grown into a global phenomenon, with annual events in Chicago, where it has been headquartered since 2003, Paris, Berlin, Stockholm, Brazil, Chile and Argentina. Though 2019’s lineup has yet to be released, a January rumor had Ariana Grande’s name up at the top of the headliners. Stay tuned.

CCTV captures man narrowly escaping building collapse

A man narrowly avoided getting hit by a pile of falling bricks while he walked down a street in east London, UK.

The CCTV footage of the incident — which occurred on Stoke Newington High Street, Hackney — was posted to Twitter by local football team, Hackney Wick FC.

The video shows a man walking along a stretch of pavement shortly before a rather large pile of bricks and rubble fall from above.

Per the BBC, the falling bricks were the result of a building collapsing due to windy weather. The London Fire Brigade told the BBC no one was injured during the building collapse.

“While the boys were fundraising this happened across the road,” read Hackney Wick FC’s tweet. “A reminder that you can be taken at any time so be thankful for surviving another day.”
