Look at this adorable dog who decided to try on his owner’s lipstick

Finding the perfect shade of lipstick can be a doggone difficult task, but it was no problem for this little guy.

Australian author Jenna Guillaume posted this photo of her dog, Jasper, wearing an absolutely perfect shade of pink.

According to Jenna, he got into a tube of “Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar that is no longer on the market.”

Despite the tragedy that Jenna will no longer be able to wear said lipstick, at least Jasper seized the opportunity to match his nails to his lipstick and get a great photo out of it.

We’re sure Jenna will be keeping her lipstick a little more locked down from here on out.

Duke’s Zion Williamson to Return from Injury vs. Syracuse in 2019 ACC Tournament

The Duke Blue Devils announced superstar freshman Zion Williamson will return for Thursday’s ACC tournament opener against Syracuse after he suffered a mild knee sprain against the rival North Carolina Tar Heels on Feb. 20.

🚨 ZI🤯N STATUS UPDATE:
🍿🍿🍿💨💨💨🚀🚀🚀✈👀🎬🚂‼🍽☀🦁😈

(He’s back) https://t.co/VleciNZ6V6

Williamson is having a monster debut campaign with Duke. He’s averaged 21.6 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 2.2 steals and 1.8 blocks while shooting 68.3 percent from the field. The star-studded Blue Devils posted a 3-2 record while he recovered from the knee injury.

The 18-year-old likely No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft had remained durable at the college level before the knee sprain, which came when his shoe blew out in the opening minute against UNC. He suffered foot and thumb injuries during his senior year at Spartanburg Day School in South Carolina.

Zion’s shoe: destroyed 😳 https://t.co/LqQ2te0Jay

Duke probably won’t lean too heavily on Williamson in his first game back. Javin DeLaurier and Antonio Vrankovic figure to pick up any of the extra playing time in the frontcourt.

That said, the forward should be back firing on all cylinders in time for the NCAA tournament barring any setbacks. The Blue Devils are a championship contender largely because of his game-changing ability.

BeIN to take legal action against AFC over Saudi football rights

Qatari broadcaster beIN Sports has said it will take legal action against the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), accusing the governing body of breaching a multi-million-dollar rights deal by streaming its matches in Saudi Arabia online.

On Tuesday, the AFC said it would start streaming its games involving Saudi teams in the country for free on its geo-blocked Facebook and YouTube channels.

It said the move would fulfil its commitment to promote its competitions “for the benefit of all our stakeholders”.

With beIN Sports holding exclusive TV rights to these matches, viewers in Saudi Arabia were reliant on a subscription to watch AFC matches.

However, since June 2017, beIN’s signals have been blocked in the kingdom after Saudi Arabia, along with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain and Egypt, severed diplomatic and economic ties with Qatar.

BeoutQ – a Saudi-based pirate TV channel – has also been illegally broadcasting beIN Sports’ content.

Several major sports bodies, including FIFA and the AFC, said they would take legal action against beoutQ.

BeIN CEO Yousef Al-Obaidly said the decision was a “material breach” of its multi-million dollar rights deal with the AFC and accused the governing body of football in Asia of colluding with the Saudi Football Federation.

“The AFC’s decision is not only a self-harming commercial decision and a clear political play with Saudi Arabia, but most damagingly it will impact rights holders across sports and entertainment around the world,” he said.

“We will immediately be launching a major international dispute to recover damages and protect our position.”

BeIN did not disclose the value of damages it would seek but said the lawsuit would be raised at the Singapore International Arbitration Centre.

No comment from AFC

When contacted by Reuters news agency, the AFC said it was not yet in a position to make an official comment on the matter.

Since the illegal blockade in 2017, beIN Sports has had no pitch-side presence in Saudi Arabia, once its top regional market. It has also been forced to broadcast Saudi-based matches with commentary from Doha.

The English Premier League has said there is “compelling” evidence that the Riyadh-based satellite operator ‘Arabsat ‘ has allowed beoutQ to use its services.

In December, the World Trade Organization said it would investigate the allegations but Riyadh objected to the move on national security grounds.

Saudi Arabia has denied claims that beoutQ is based in the kingdom. However, beoutQ set-top boxes are readily available for purchase in most cities.

Romney, Alexander to buck Trump on national emergency

Mitt Romney

“I am seriously concerned that overreach by the Executive Branch is an invitation to further expansion and abuse by future president,” Mitt Romney, an occasional critic of the president, said in a statement. | Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images

National Emergency

The Senate is set to pass a resolution overturning the president’s border emergency in a major rebuke to Trump.

Two more Senate Republicans — Mitt Romney of Utah and Lamar Alexander of Tennessee — will support a House resolution to overturn President Donald Trump’s declaration of a national emergency at the southern border.

Romney and Alexander are the latest GOP senators to break with the president on his plans to unilaterally steer funds to his border wall, joining Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Rand Paul of Kentucky and Mike Lee of Utah. Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina had written an op-ed denouncing Trump’s national emergency declaration, though it was unclear this week how he would vote.

Story Continued Below

In a statement, Romney described Thursday’s vote on the House resolution of disapproval as “a vote for the Constitution and for the balance of powers that is at its core” and emphasized his stance was “not a vote against border security.”

“I am seriously concerned that overreach by the Executive Branch is an invitation to further expansion and abuse by future presidents,” Romney, an occasional critic of the president, said.

Alexander reiterated his support for Trump’s border wall while emphasizing Congress’ role as a check on the executive branch on the Senate floor. Alexander said after his speech that he will support the House resolution.

“This declaration is a dangerous precedent,” he said. “Any appreciation for our structure of government means that no president should be able to use the National Emergencies Act to spend money that Congress refuses to provide.”

Only a simple majority is needed to pass the resolution under congressional rules, though Trump has vowed to veto the measure.

The additional Republican defections amount to a growing rebuke to the White House, which sought to persuade the GOP to stick with the president.

Trump continued to pressure Senate Republicans on Thursday morning, tweeting that “a vote for today’s resolution by Republican Senators is a vote for Nancy Pelosi, Crime, and the Open Border Democrats!”

On Fox News, Vice President Mike Pence urged senators to stick with Trump.

“A vote against President Trump’s national emergency is a vote against border security,” he said. “Vote down the resolution of disapproval. Stand with the president and stand for border security.“

Earlier this week, Lee and Tillis attempted to reach some sort of deal with the White House to maintain party unity. In exchange for White House support of Lee’s bill to update the National Emergencies Act requiring congressional approval of national emergencies, some Republican senators were willing to consider voting against the House measure.

But Trump told Lee Wednesday that he would not endorse the bill, leaving skeptical Republicans with few options.

Microsoft is attempting to make the update process for Windows 10 much less painful this week, with the latest feature in the pipeline being the ability to temporarily stop updates from installing on your PC for up to 35 days.

A couple of days ago Microsoft took a big step towards a less painful Windows Update process by introducing a new feature which automatically detects and uninstalls broke updates. Now, Windows 10 Home users look set to get another welcome feature.

Image: screenshot/pcmag

As Ars Technica reports, the current build of Home (version 1809) only allows an update installation to be delayed for seven days. However, Reddit user Leopeva64 noticed preview build 1903 extends the delay for up to 35 days, as can be seen in the screenshot above.

By extending the delay time, it means users have the option to not take the risk of allowing their PC to be updated immediately. This can be important if, for example, you are working to a deadline or traveling and really can’t afford to deal with a potentially broken laptop.

For now, Microsoft isn’t officially confirming the extension in delay time, but the preview watermark has been removed from build 1903, which is a sign it’s going to be publicly released very soon. With that being the case, the new 35 day installation delay looks likely to stay in place.

Good news for Apple Music subscribers with an Amazon Fire TV: the music streaming service and media streaming devices now play nice together.

Three months after launching on Amazon Echo smart speakers, Apple Music is now available on Fire TV devices in the US. To set it up, enable the Apple Music skill inside the Alexa app and link your accounts. If you already enabled the Apple Music skill for use with an Echo device, you can start listening right away without having to go through the setup process again.

From there, you’ll be able to ask the virtual assistant to play whatever you want to hear on Apple’s music streaming service with commands such as “Alexa, play today’s hits on Apple Music” or “Alexa, play music by Bebe Rexha on Apple Music.”

If you live in the UK, don’t feel too left out. Amazon says that Apple Music will also be available on Fire TV and Echo devices there “in the coming weeks.”

Apple Music, which now boasts 50 million songs, earned an “excellent” rating in PCMag’s review. We like its large music library, exclusive content, offline playback feature, Siri and Apple Watch integration, and more.

“Apple Music’s many features make this service a strong contender in its category, one that challenges our Editors’ Choices, Slacker Radio and Spotify,” we wrote.

Meanwhile, several Amazon Fire TVs earned our coveted Editors’ Choice recommendation, including the Fire TV Cube $119.99 at Amazon, Fire TV Stick 4K $49.99 at Amazon, and budget-friendly Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote.

World Rugby: Nations League would bring in £5billion over 12 years

World Rugby have gone public with their plans for a Nations Championship, claiming it would be worth £5billion to the sport over a 12-year cycle.

The world governing body faced a backlash a fortnight ago when reports in New Zealand leaked the initial plans for a new 12-team league which would have left Pacific island nations out of the frame to compete alongside the world’s elite.

World Rugby vice-chairman Agustin Pichot and chief executive Brett Gosper both took to twitter to give contrasting messages about the plans for new format, but a crisis meeting has now allowed the body to officially release more information for the first time in their attempt to save the idea.

The statement read: “At the meeting of unions, competition owners and international player representatives, World Rugby outlined details of a game-changing competition model that delivers a true pathway for all unions through a three-division format and a system of promotion and relegation.

“The proposed format would be underpinned by a record commercial partnership with leading global sports marketing company Infront, guaranteeing almost £5 billion for investment in the sport over an initial 12-year period (of which more than £1.5 billion is guaranteed incremental revenue for the world game).

“The proposed business model covers both media and marketing rights but does not include any sale of equity in the competition and therefore full control of the competition and its revenue redistribution model would be retained by the unions, the current major competitions and World Rugby.”

With the video below outlining the format of the Nations Championship showing promotion and relegation will be a feature, this is likely to antagonise the organisers of the Six Nations who are opposed to the idea.

Having given more detail about the potential overhaul of the international rugby calendar, which would also include a cross-hemisphere champion of champions match as of 2022 involving the winners of the Six Nations and Rugby Championship, World Rugby chairman Bill Beaumont conceded opposition to the proposal would remain.

“I would like to thank my union, competition and player representative colleagues for their candid, constructive and positive contributions,” said Beaumont.

“There was strong recognition that World Rugby’s Nations Championship proposal, based on a true pathway for all, has been developed with great care, extensive evaluation and with the global game at the forefront of our thinking.

“We are encouraged that the format revisions and robust financial model has been well-received.

“Everyone, not just the established teams, will benefit, accelerating the development and competitiveness of the global game.

“However, as you would expect in an ambitious, complex and multi-stakeholder project, not everyone is in full agreement on the way forward, including the matter of promotion and relegation, but we will continue to engage and consult.

“This is a pivotal time for the game. Only by keeping the best interests of the global game at heart will we be able to achieve something truly impactful for the future success and sustainability of the game.”

Beware the kids: US youth to join strike for climate

Alexandria Villasenor, barely a teenager but old enough to be profoundly scared for the future, has jump-started the climate struggle in the United States.

For 14 weeks through frigid temperatures, the seventh grader nicknamed “Lexi” has walked out of class every Friday and demonstrated on a bench by the United Nations Secretariat building in New York City.

As cofounder of Youth Climate Strike US, she has organised a mass walkout for Friday.

The centerpiece is an 11-minute strike at 11am (16:00GMT) to emphasise that in 11 years the world risks exceeding the temperature limit cited by scientists, beyond which the effect of global warming will become catastrophic.

“Every Friday [since August] folks have been protesting, mostly in Europe and Australia,” said Villasenor, 13, whose hooky-for-a-cause partners are Haven Coleman, 12, in Denver, and Isra Hirsi, 16, in Minneapolis.

Demanding that the government declare a national emergency on climate change, on Friday the trio will join tens of thousands of students in about 100 countries.

Climate change: Teenage environmentalists protest in Paris

The US has already seen the viral successes of activist youth, mostly affiliated with the Sunrise Movement, who repeatedly stormed the halls of Congress, doing sit-ins outside the office of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, standing down Senator Dianne Feinstein, and swarming Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

But this will be the first time that US young people participate en masse in “Fridays for Future” protests begun by 16-year-old campaigner Greta Thunberg.

The Swedish activist gained global attention by riding the rails to Davos, Switzerland, to lecture global economic barons, in addition to her speeches at the European Union and the COP24 climate summit.

“Greta is supportive of strikers all over the world,” said Villasenor, who is coordinating with the Scandinavian activist and was inspired by her protests after devastating summer wildfires in northern Europe. “Her message just resonated with me.”

‘My generation is impacted the most’

Villasenor moved from northern California to New York with her parents last year, so her mother could study climate science at Columbia University.

When back on the West Coast over the Thanksgiving holiday in November to visit family in the city of Davis – downwind of the Paradise wildfire – she experienced an Air Quality Index of 350.

She told Al Jazeera that breathing the worst air in the world was the pivotal moment for her climate activism.

“People were collapsing on the pavement from smoke inhalation,” said Villasenor, who was forced to stay inside for days due to severe asthma. “The hospital beds were all filled up.”

“My generation is impacted the most,” she said. “Some of my peers at school don’t understand, but I’m trying to educate them. We’re putting pressure on world leaders because we don’t have time to wait.”

Who is to blame for California wildfires?

“We won’t stop making noise until we get the necessary climate action,” said Villasenor, adding that “the Green New Deal is one of the only proposals to meet the necessary standard”.

That resolution aims to wean the US off fossil fuels and launch a massive public works programme.

In preparation for Friday’s events, she and a few dozen other young students gathered at New York University’s engineering lab last weekend to make posters and strategise.

Highlighting their grassroots, no-holds-barred approach, their freshly painted signs read: “Save Our Ocean”, “Face Facts”, “You Change the World”, and “We’re Melting, Act Now!”

Alex Serio, spokesperson at March for Science NYC, which organised the gathering, said that because the previous “pie-in-the-sky” goals of the climate change movement were not tethered to actual proposals on the table, the Green New Deal offers “a great shot at moving policy”.

Although her organisation is nonpartisan, Serio said: “In this era, science has to choose a side, and we choose the side that votes for science.”

March for Science has been holding annual marches around Earth Day since 2017.

The group, which includes university students and professionals, advocates increased government funding for science and full acceptance of the scientific consensus on climate change.

      ‘The bogeyman to me’

After 22-year-old college student Justine Berfond finished making a colourful poster for the upcoming event, she said: “Ever since I was a kid, climate change was the bogeyman to me.”

Berfond is a volunteer with Sunrise Movement NYC, and says she is motivated to “change the conversation about how we better our society”.

“This is a social and political issue of justice,” she says.

Sunrise Movement is one of several groups bringing out young people to rallies and demonstrations.

They may go by a variety of names and mobilise around slightly different themes, but their goals and tactics are overlapping.

Climate SOS: How do countries cope with emerging disasters?

Miles Goodrich is the New York State director for the Sunrise Movement, which has organised hubs at several colleges in the New York City area that will join Friday’s walkout.

“The young people in this country have existed in a permanent state of crisis, and not only because of climate change,” said Goodrich. “Political crises and financial crisis have plagued our generation.”

“Elected officials, the putative adults in this room, have failed,” he told Al Jazeera. “So the politicisation of millennials and Generation Z is inevitable, and ultimately good. I’m doing my best to help shepherd it.”

Goodrich said that the upsurge in youth activism following the Parkland school massacre in February 2018 had a significant effect on his group’s popularity.

Many of the Sunrise founders had already cut their teeth in politics, he said, with the fossil-fuel divestment movement.

The 25-year-old activist also said that the traditional left had failed to grab national attention around the climate issue.

But Sunrise has been able to cast a wide net, attracting interest from union, healthcare, and immigrant rights groups.

“Climate change is affecting all of us. This can’t just be environmentalists or elite college students,” he said. “We found a frame that everybody could get behind because it’s going to require everybody.”

The protesters want a national emergency to be declared on climate change [Ben Piven/Al Jazeera]

Under no illusion that the Republican-controlled Senate or Republican President Donald Trump will get behind the Green New Deal, the Sunrise Movement is laying the groundwork for the 2020 elections, which they hope will usher in new legislative and executive partners for transformative action.

The group says its role is to convince voters and earn a mandate to tackle the problem.

They reject austerity policies and the idea that anyone should have to choose between clean air and affordable healthcare.

And Friday’s strike is a chance for Sunrise, which has recently developed organisational heft across the country, to test its strategy for expanding the youth climate fight.

“Americans overwhelmingly support the Green New Deal and taxing the rich,” said Goodrich. “Reality is on our side.”

Olivia Wilde And The Booksmart Cast Talk Harry Potter And Their Safe, Collaborate Set

      By Monica Castillo

Not every actor who jumps behind a camera can pull it off. That’s no concern for Olivia Wilde, whose feature debut, Booksmart, knocked the roof off the Paramount Theatre when it premiered at the SXSW Film Festival last week. Her creativity and direction shine as brightly as the performances of her young cast, who star in the snappy story about two driven high school girls who impulsively decide to party like they never have before they graduate.

At the premiere, Wilde opened up about her directing journey. “It takes a lot of courage to do it,” she said. “I had to spend a lot of time paying attention and observing. I started with music videos, and I recommend that to anybody in here who wants to direct. It’s a good way to get your feet wet. I just had a dream of making a film like the ones that I loved and still love. For me, in my teenage years, the generational anthems kept me going. It was films like The Breakfast Club, Dazed and Confused, Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Clueless. I thought we need one of those for this generation.”

      Annapurna

Beanie Feldstein and Kaitlyn Dever star in Booksmart

Wilde also had some advice for aspiring filmmakers. “I think a lot of times people who want to direct stop themselves because they assume they have to do every job on their own and that’s just not true,” she said. “The director is a collaborator. The job of the director is to create the most fertile environments where people can do their best work. All you have to do is bring the right people together, and then you have to set them free. You’ve got to trust them, and when you’ve got a cast like this, you can totally trust them.”

MTV News spoke with the Booksmart team — including Wilde, screenwriter Katie Silberman, and stars Kaitlyn Dever, Beanie Feldstein, and Billie Lourd — about how they became involved with the movie and how everyone helped to create that ideal environment for the film’s young actors.

MTV News: How did you become involved with Booksmart and build up your cast?

Olivia Wilde: I got involved, gosh, two and a half years ago. I’m trying to keep track of time, but I have no sense of it. It might even be three years ago, when another one of our producers, Jessica Elbaum, told me that I should pitch on this existing script of Booksmart. I read it, and I was so in love with this concept. I want to make it my own. I need a partner to help me personalize it and make it everything that I think it actually could be in today’s climate and with the performers that are working today. I think we could make it really shine.

      Annapurna

Feldstein and director Olivia Wilde on set

I found that collaborator in Katie Silberman and she reworked the script and produced the film alongside me. She was the most amazing partner. I should mention Kaitlyn Dever was already attached, which was one of the things that made me really want to be involved because I was like — wait, we have high caliber actors on the scene? I thought how amazing for my directorial debut to be directing such a brilliant actress. Then, I got to put together my dream cast. I got to hire Allison Jones, who is one of the most incredible casting directors on earth and a true collaborator. My dream cast really, truly came together in a way that I still can’t believe happened. Beanie Feldstein came on board after I forced her to meet with me in between two of her Broadway shows.

Beanie Feldstein: And two of your Broadway shows!

Wilde: It was very telling about our personalities because we were both in between shows, and Beanie sat down and had hot water with lemon, and I had six shots of espresso. I thought this was going to be a great partnership.

I was so overwhelmed with gratitude when she said yes and came on board. Then, we got to hire Billie Lourd who was my dream Gigi, and she has created a truly iconic performance. So that’s my journey with this, and I’m very excited to be here.

Katie Silberman: I got an email about a script looking to kind of be reworked and redeveloped. And it was with Annapurna [Pictures] and Gary Sanchez [Productions], and Olivia Wilde was directing and Katelyn Dever was attached. I basically threw my laptop out of a window, I was so excited.

Luckily, when I read it and got to talk to Olivia for the first time, we had a lot of the same ideas about the vision of what the movie could be. I was so inspired by what she already knew she wanted it to be, and I can see the movie she was going to make and what just wanted desperately to be a part of it.

MTV News: As actors, how did you work with Olivia to develop each of your characters?

Kaitlyn Dever: It was a really, really collaborative experience. Probably, one of the most collaborative experience I’ve ever had with another director because I felt so involved. This movie was the first time I ever got to go into the casting office and read with other people. That was such a cool experience. We had a lot of meetings and a lot of rehearsals together, and it made me love rehearsals. Olivia had so many ideas, I was in awe of her. It was a lot of rehearsals at the beginning because we just really wanted to get that chemistry going [between the actors]. The day we met, we were in love with each other.

Feldstein: Kaitlyn and I lived together while we were shooting the movie. The first time we met at the Chateau [Marmont], I came up with the idea of living together as a joke. Then all three of us at the same time, we’re like, hold up, now that will actually be incredible because I’m going to New York and Kaitlyn lives in L.A. So, the more time we could spend together before we started actually filming, we knew we would be comfortable.

      Annapurna

Dever: It’s also amazing because when you’re on location for something, you’re forced to kind of hang out with everybody. So we wanted to share space, eat together, have pajama parties.

MTV News: So, like a fun version of method acting?

Feldstein: That was such an incredible part of the process. Collaborating with Olivia was just was so wonderful. I feel like the two of them — Katie and Olivia — are true collaborators. Their friendship and their partnership were so beautiful to watch, the way that they respect and love each other’s ideas. Especially, because our story is about female friendship, and we had this creative team that is centered in a friendship. It was just so special. The two of them were just so giving with how we shaped all three of our characters. And Billie’s character was very different…

Billie Lourd: With a whole different name in the script!

Feldstein: All three of us agree that things morphed and changed, but the heart of the characters are fully the same but with more specificity. Katie wrote me an amazing Harry Potter reference because of our mutual obsession.

Dever: We [Feldstein and Dever] wear matching necklaces. It’s not anything people watching the movie would see, but it was more for us. We knew that we had matching necklaces.

Wilde: It was amazing because as we got to know each of the actors, we did keep evolving with them. I thought that was part of the most thrilling part of it because they were personalizing it and going deeper and bringing so many great questions and ideas. They were being so honest about what didn’t feel right or organic, which helped us so much. With every department head — from April [Napier], our costume designer, or makeup artist, Liz Lash — I mean every single department head, many of them were women, were able to work with these actors. They kept saying to me, “God, your cast just so thrilling because they have so many ideas, and they’re so interesting!” And it was really cool because we got to really collaborate on this together. Billie created Gigi, who is now a character who will go down in history.

      Annapurna

Billie Lourd stars as Gigi (left)

Lourd: It was just really cool to be able to do that with everybody. I barely do any rehearsals ever on anything. On this movie, it was so incredible because every scene we got to sit around and talk about for at least 20 minutes or more, and we would talk about the blocking and reading lines. I just felt so comfortable around both of them that I was able to throw out like the weirdest ideas that I wouldn’t have thrown out around other people.

Wilde: Well, it’s so nice to be able to offer that safety, to say go for it. I promise we won’t use anything bad. You won’t get to the good stuff unless you risk the bad. They all were so game that we had enough material for like a 17-hour movie.

Carly Rae Jepsen Tell Us How Her Cat-Centric ‘Now That I Found You’ Video Came Together

      YouTube/Interscope

The first thing you’ll likely notice about Carly Rae Jepsen‘s merrily idiosyncratic new video for “Now That I Found You” is that it’s as much her video as it is her co-star’s. And yes, her co-star in this particular clip is a cat. Specifically, he’s an orange Scottish Fold who takes center stage as the object — and in a few pivotal, CGI-assisted scenes, objects (plural) — of her affection.

The bubbly track, which dropped late last month paired with the thundering bass-driven “No Drug Like You,” shines as a counterpoint to 2018’s “Party For One,” an anthem to self-love complete with a downright euphoric video. Here, Jepsen sings, “There’s nothing like this feeling, baby / Now that I found you,” and in the visual, the “you” just happens to be “the most adorable, fluffy, chillest cat ever,” she told MTV News. It was all part of the plan.

“After ‘Party For One’ was such a message of ‘you can have fun with yourself,’ I was a little nervous about just going straight from that into ‘but now that I found, everything’s perfect!’” Jepsen said. “It doesn’t have to mean a love story. It can mean a passion of sorts or a cat-lady obsession. Whatever you want.”

“I still wanted the videos to represent real life in a weird way, and I’m not saying I have 100 cats and I sing to them,” she continued, “but I will say that it felt like a proper progression from ‘Party For One’ that it’s not just about a boy, but it’s about a cat.”

The feline in question, by the way, is Shrampton, who also appeared in Tegan and Sara’s “Stop Desire” in 2016 and indeed had his own crafty table on set. With Jepsen in the vid, Shrampton has a proper blast, tripping out on some catnip (“a late-night idea” meant to evoke the wonderfully cosmic Cats on Synthesizers in Space account), getting immortalized in a painting, and even updating the iconic Breakfast at Tiffany’s ending with a bit of a twist. The idea originally came from Jepsen herself, who had a new cat pal enter her life around the time she prepared to record the song’s vocals.

“The lyrics were going through my head, and I woke up one morning and I saw the cat and I was still kind of not used to him being in my life,” she said. “‘Waking up next to you every morning’ started playing in my head and I kind of laughed out loud. I was like, that’s what I want this video to be about: just a cat-lady obsession.”

As she shared in a recent throwback Instagram post with co-writers Captain Cuts and producer Ayokay, “Now That I Found You” has its roots in a songwriting camp Jepsen attended in Nicaragua, where attendees stayed in cabanas with built-in studios and could record after mind-clearing surf breaks. Its companion tune, “No Drug Like Me,” meanwhile, got assembled “in the later eve of a session,” inspired by a new love Jepsen was experiencing at the time.

These, along with “Party For One,” are among the hundreds of recorded songs Jepsen’s been working diligently to whittle down to what will become a practical tracklist for her fourth album, due out later in 2019. “If by the end of this year there’s no album out, something went horribly wrong,” she said. This is surely literal music to the ears of fans who’ve had “Cut to the Feeling” on repeat since 2017, thinking it was the first taste of #CRJ4. But in the four years since her last LP, 2015’s EMOTION, she’s been hard at work — writing, recording, and writing some more to try to top herself. “That energy kind of propels me forward to keep trying to beat what I already have [written],” Jepsen said.

Until then, she’s enlisting some help to compile the final version of the album. She organized a listening party for her bandmates and team members, complete with wine and food, where everyone can weigh in and dance to their legs give out to what she’s got lined up so far. Picture a Super Bowl party, but instead of watching dudes crunching each other in a stadium (or a shirtless, meme-ready Adam Levine), everyone’s just grooving out to new Carly Rae Jepsen music. Surely there’s no drug like it.

You might not get an invite to that party (sorry), but in the meantime, you can watch the “Now That I Found You” video above, and catch it today (March 14) on mtvU and MTV Live. If you watch closely, you might even catch Jepsen’s “meow”-branded workout clothes that she had bedazzled specifically for this clip. “It definitely makes the shoot day a lot more enjoyable when it feels like it’s a baby that you’ve kind of birthed and been a part of making,” she said.
