Josh Rosen Trade Rumors: Cardinals Could Draft Kyler Murray, Keep Both QBs

The Arizona Cardinals reportedly are still uncertain about their quarterback situation and remain open to numerous possibilities going forward.

The team has the No. 1 pick in the 2019 NFL draft and likes top prospect Kyler Murray, but last year’s first-round pick, Josh Rosen, remains on the roster.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network provided the latest info on the Cardinals’ strategy:

Ian Rapoport @RapSheet

From Up to the Minute Live: The #AZCardinals don’t view next week as any sort of deadline to trade Josh Rosen (if they even decide to do so) and they could keep 2 QBs for a while if they end up drafting Kyler Murray. https://t.co/Xmh8Id23im

“They could, in fact, keep both quarterbacks until they decide not to,” Rapoport said. “They are not going to give Josh Rosen away.”

Rosen had an up-and-down first season in the NFL, tossing 11 touchdowns with 14 interceptions in 14 games (13 starts). He had a 66.7 quarterback rating, and the team had just a 3-10 record in his starts.

However, the Cardinals reportedly believe the 22-year-old is better than every quarterback prospect in the class besides Murray.

“This is a guy they really, really like, so it is going to take a very, very good offer to trade Rosen,” Rapoport said.

According to Joel Klatt of Fox Sports, the New England Patriots, Los Angeles Chargers and New York Giants have all shown interest in trading for Rosen. The Washington Redskins are another possibility, per Chris Mortensen of ESPN.

Having that many suitors could drive the price up, perhaps giving the Cardinals what they are looking for in a trade.

Still, Arizona will likely have to make a decision before it ends up with two young quarterbacks and wastes one on the bench.

WhatsApp adds new group messaging privacy settings

Wanna chat? Better ask first.

By Rachel Kraus

WhatsApp has rolled out a new common sense privacy setting that may also make it more difficult for harmful content to spread through the platform. Starting Wednesday, WhatsApp users will be able to specify who is able to add them to groups, and to accept or reject invitations sent through DMs.

Now, in WhatsApp’s settings, users can choose whether “Everyone,” “My Contacts,” or “Nobody” can automatically add them to groups. Users can navigate to the settings through Account > Privacy > Groups.

SEE ALSO: WhatsApp bans 2 million fake accounts per month

The labels are a bit deceptive, though; selecting “My Contacts” or “Nobody” does not in fact mean that only contacts or “nobody” can send you any group invitations. Instead, it makes users invite you to a group, which you can accept or reject, rather than automatically adding you. (Pretty wild that any stranger could just automatically add you to a group before, TBH!)

For people who select “My Contacts,” only contacts can add you to groups. For people outside of contacts, or for people who select “Nobody,” users must invite you to a group over DM.

“‘Nobody’ means you’ll have to approve joining every group to which you’re invited, and ‘My Contacts’ means only users you have in your address book can add you to groups,” WhatsApp explained in a statement.

You can choose to reject or accept those invitations with an expiration of 72 hours.

No thx, I'm in too many groups already.

WhatsApp groups are a popular way that users communicate and, increasingly, share and consume news, on the Facebook-owned social network. That’s become problematic in places like India where large group chats and forwarding have enabled the spread of malicious content and fake news, that’s led to real-world violence

Alongside the Indian government, WhatsApp is trying to improve digital literacy amongst its users, teaching skepticism about content they may receive from unknown sources. Giving users the choice to limit communication from people users don’t actually have in their contacts could help with that effort. It could also prevent bots or other fake accounts from using groups to spread content.

Facebook is currently attempting to consolidate its internal messaging infrastructure between WhatsApp, Instagram DM, and Facebook Messenger. Today’s change puts WhatsApp a bit closer to Messenger, where users have separate inboxes for people they do and do not know.

Zuckerberg has also been trying to rebrand Facebook as a privacy-conscious company (lol) through a new emphasis on private messaging. Considering the effort to unify the platforms, and the CEO’s new directive, we could see a larger effort aimed at giving users more control over unsolicited messaging across all of Facebook’s properties.

Facebook backs away from asking for some users’ email passwords

Facebook ran into some more privacy trouble this week.

Facebook can’t seem to escape concerns over its handling of user privacy.

Mark Zuckerberg’s social media giant faced more criticism over the weekend for apparently asking some new users — who’d registered with email addresses from sites like Yandex or GMX — to enter their personal email passwords during the sign-up process. As a result of this latest brouhaha, Facebook decided to end the practice, a company spokesperson confirmed to Mashable.

The policy came under scrutiny on Sunday when the cybersecurity-focused Twitter account e-sushi pointed out how potentially dangerous it could be, especially given another recent scandal in which it turned out the site was storing passwords in plain text.

Hey @facebook, demanding the secret password of the personal email accounts of your users for verification, or any other kind of use, is a HORRIBLE idea from an #infosec point of view. By going down that road, you’re practically fishing for passwords you are not supposed to know! pic.twitter.com/XL2JFk122l

— e-sushi (@originalesushi) March 31, 2019

After the attention drawn to the policy earlier this week, Facebook put a stop to it, The Daily Beast reported. In a written statement to Mashable, a Facebook spokesperson said users were never required to do this anyway.

“People can always choose instead to confirm their account with a code sent to their phone or a link sent to their email,” Facebook said. “That said, we understand the password verification option isn’t the best way to go about this, so we are going to stop offering it.”

According to Facebook, only a small percentage of users would see this particular screen, because it only showed up for those who signed up with email addresses that don’t support OAuth. For the uninitiated, OAuth works with major email services like Gmail to authorize access to sites without requiring the user to enter their email password.

Additionally, Facebook said any password entered this way was not stored by the social network. A user who was asked to enter their email password could alternately verify their accounts using more traditional means, by clicking the “Need help?” button on the password form.

If you take Facebook at its word, maybe this isn’t that big a deal, especially now that the policy is gone. Still, it’s hard to blame anyone for finding it suspicious, given the company’s concerning history with user data.

AEW Signs WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross to ‘Groundbreaking’ 3-Year Contract

All Elite Wrestling announced Wednesday it has signed WWE Hall of Fame announcer Jim Ross to a three-year contract.

AEW called the deal “groundbreaking” and “the most lucrative deal in pro wrestling commentary history.” Ross has been named a senior advisor for AEW effective immediately.

Ross’ first appearance for AEW will come at the Double or Nothing pay-per-view in Las Vegas on May 25. With regard to his decision to join AEW, JR expressed excitement over the possibility of making a difference in the world of pro wrestling:

“I’m moving on in a very positive way to this timely opportunity to be on the ground floor of one of the most exciting moments in the history of pro wrestling. I’ve known [AEW President] Tony [Khan], Cody [Rhodes], The Young Bucks and Kenny [Omega] for a long time, and I know they’re going to change the world of pro wrestling. Their roster is already packed with top-level talent and up-and-comers. They’ve got a huge show coming up in May. They’ve brought in game-changing partners like KultureCity. And they’ve got an all-inclusive, welcoming culture like I’ve never seen before. I’m ready to change the world with them.”

The 67-year-old Ross began working as a wrestling broadcaster in 1974 before joining WWE in 1993 and remaining with the company for most of the next two decades. Ross returned to WWE in 2017 and worked in a limited capacity until his deal expired March 29.

During his most recent stint with WWE, Ross called a handful of matches and events, including the first Mae Young Classic. He also appeared on some pay-per-view pre-show panels and essentially worked in a jack-of-all-trades role.

Upon announcing that he was not renewing his WWE contract, Ross revealed that he was in negotiations to join AEW.

Khan said the following about Ross’ signing with the upstart company:

“I’ve been part of the wrestling community since I was seven years old, and there’s no greater thrill than welcoming the voice that I grew up with, Jim Ross, to our AEW family. We all share a common goal to make this the true golden age, to make this the greatest time ever to be a professional wrestling fan. And, as a business, we also seek to make this a new golden age for the performers and our staff members. Our entire team is thrilled to have Jim on board, and we can’t wait to shake things up together.”

It is not clear from the press release whether Ross will be a regular part of the AEW announce team in addition to his role as senior advisor. Even if he doesn’t provide play-by-play commentary, he brings a wealth of experience to the table.

Ross held multiple backstage jobs for WWE over the years in addition to his work as an announcer, and he is quite familiar with the field of talent relations.

AEW is already generating plenty of buzz in the wrestling world thanks to a roster that includes Omega, Cody, The Young Bucks, Chris Jericho and others. With arguably the greatest wrestling announcer of all time in the fold, the promotion continues to gain credibility within the business.

Apple might not have 5G iPhone ready in time for 2020 launch

The iPhone might not get 5G cellular connectivity in 2020 if Apple doesn't find a 5G modem supplier fast.
The iPhone might not get 5G cellular connectivity in 2020 if Apple doesn’t find a 5G modem supplier fast.

By Raymond Wong

The first 5G Android phones will launch this year. But when is Apple going to release a 5G iPhone?

Hard to say. Previous reports suggested Apple would launch a 5G iPhone in 2020, but now a UBS analyst strongly believes the company won’t be able to deliver a device that support’s the next-generation cellular connectivity until much later.

SEE ALSO: Apple AirPods 2 review: Still the best wireless earbuds you can buy

In a note to investors (via CNBC), UBS analyst Timothy Arcuri says there’s “increasing potential that Apple may not be able to ship a 5G iPhone for 2020.”

His reasoning is that Apple won’t be able to source 5G modems for an iPhone in time. However, if Apple overcomes a “big technical hurdle” Arcuri thinks a 5G iPhone could arrive in 2021.

Apple’s problems with getting 5G modems for future iPhones is hardly a secret. Prior to the iPhone 7, Apple only used cellular “baseband” modems from Qualcomm. And for good reason: they’re superior modems capable of faster download speeds.

But after butting heads over patents, Apple dropped Qualcomm as its sole modem supplier starting with the iPhone 7. In the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, some versions came with Qualcomm modems and some with Intel modems.

Then, the following year, Apple took things further and stopped using Qualcomm modems altogether, transitioning entirely to Intel modems for the iPhone 8 and X.

The issue Apple’s now facing is getting 5G modems from any supplier. Though it’s widely believed Intel will supply Apple with 5G modems for iPhones, it’s unclear if the chipmaker can provide them in time for a 2020 release. Arcuri doesn’t think Intel’s 5G modems will be ready for next year.

Similarly, Arcuri told investors MediaTek and Samsung’s 5G modems are “unlikely solutions”. Without a 5G modem supplier, Apple may not be able to ship a 5G iPhone until after 2020… unless maybe it creates its own modems.

That said, Apple’s never made it a priority to be first with new cellular technologies. The original iPhone only supported 2G even though 3G was already well on its way to becoming the norm in 2007. And Apple didn’t include 4G LTE in the iPhone until the rest of the industry had also already adopted it in smartphones. It wouldn’t surprise us if Apple waits until 5G networks are just a little more mature before it releases a 5G iPhone.

Apple will technically be late to 5G if it’s unable to release a 5G iPhone until 2021, but will it matter to the hundreds of millions of existing iPhone users? Probably not.

Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry was in a bit of a shooting slump from February to early March, at least by his own lofty standards. But Curry has since hit at least five three-pointers in nine straight games, and during that time is hitting on an absurd 48.7 percent from deep.

So what changed? Well, he can see better now.

“I started wearing contacts,” Curry told Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic. “No, I’m serious.”

“I had gotten so used to squinting for so long,” he added. “It was just normal.”

This article will be updated to provide more information on this story as it becomes available.

House panel authorises subpoenas for Mueller report and evidence

Washington, DC – The US House Judiciary Committee voted along party lines to authorise subpoenas to the attorney general for Special Counsel Robert Muller‘s full report on the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 US election, setting up a constitutional showdown between Congress and the Trump administration.

US Attorney General William Barr has issued a four-page summary of the primary findings of Mueller’s investigation in which Barr said there was no evidence of a conspiracy involving President Donald Trump.

Barr further concluded there was insufficient cause to find Trump obstructed justice in the case by, among other things, firing former FBI Director James Comey. However, Barr’s letter also said Mueller’s report does not exonerate Trump.

Democrats demanded to see the entire report, underlying evidence and materials. Republicans argued the committee should wait to see a partial release of the report expected from Barr later in April.

“On multiple occasions, I have asked Attorney General Barr to work with us to go to the court and obtain access to materials,” said Representative Jerrold Nadler, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.

“He has so far refused,” he added. “I will give him time to change his mind. If we cannot reach an accommodation, then we will have no choice but to issue subpoenas for these materials.”

The Judiciary Committee also authorised subpoenas to five former White House employees: chief counsel Don McGahn, political adviser Steve Bannon, communications director Hope Hicks, chief of staff Reince Priebus and deputy counsel Ann Donaldson.

“We believe that these individuals may have received documents from the White House in preparation for their interviews with the Special Counsel. We also believe that these individuals may have turned this information over to their private attorneys,” Nadler said.

Republicans push back

Republicans on the Judiciary Committee, who have been defending Trump throughout the Mueller investigation, decried the Democrat majority’s actions as perpetuating fabricated claims designed to undermine Trump and his presidency.

“Bob Mueller has provided his findings to the attorney general who has accurately summarised those. And with respect to Trump-Russia collusion, Bob Mueller has said there are no witches,” said Representative John Ratcliffe, a Texas Republican, said, referring to Trump’s repeated labelling of the Mueller investigation as a “witch-hunt”.

“The letter from the Attorney General referencing the Special Counsel’s report said no new indictments, no sealed indictments, no collusion and did not find obstruction,” said Representative Jim Jordan, an Ohio Republican.

“On the question of collusion, he was very clear. He said there were multiple opportunities for people associated with the Trump campaign to collude and they didn’t. So multiple times where the forbidden fruit was place in front of them, they didn’t bite,” Jordan added.

Democrats cite as precedent the 1998 release to Congress of the full 445-page report by Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr with 17 boxes of documents following the investigation of former President Bill Clinton’s dealings with the Whitewater land development project while he as governor of Arkansas. The investigation expanded to include his affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky.

The law requiring Starr to submit a report directly to Congress was allowed by politicians to lapse after Republicans in the House pursued impeachment over whether Clinton lied to investigators about his relationship with Lewinsky.

Ja Morant Reportedly Will Declare for 2019 NBA Draft, Leave Murray State

Murray State Racers guard Ja Morant reportedly will declare for the 2019 NBA draft.

Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reported Morant will make his decision official at a press conference Wednesday.

Morant arrived at Murray State as an unranked recruit in the 2017 class, per 247Sports‘ composite rankings, but quickly shot up draft boards with his head-turning play.

He flashed his potential as a difference-maker but didn’t look like an NBA lottery pick as a freshman with 12.7 points, 6.5 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game behind 45.9 percent shooting from the field and 30.7 percent shooting from three-point range.

While his ability to contribute on the boards from the backcourt and facilitate for others stood out, he wasn’t the dominant scorer he would eventually become.

Morant then took an incredible leap from his freshman to sophomore season and posted 24.5 points, 10.0 assists, 5.7 rebounds and 1.8 steals per night. He also improved his field-goal percentage to 49.9 and his three-point shooting to 36.3 percent as a more efficient playmaker, even though he had the ball in his hands far more often as the focal point of Murray State’s offense.

Ja Morant.

The flashy guard plays bigger than his 6’3″ height, as evidenced by his rebounding numbers and ability to finish through contact when he penetrates the lane. He also uses his explosive first step when defenders push up on him but is capable of extending his game beyond the arc when they sag off to account for the drive.

What’s more, Morant gets out in transition as effectively as any player in college basketball with elite explosiveness that should translate to the NBA. He also regularly facilitates for others when defenders collapse on him and can control the pace with his playmaking and ball-handling.

Jonathan Wasserman of Bleacher Report projected Morant as the No. 3 overall pick behind the Duke combination of Zion Williamson and RJ Barrett in a March 5 mock draft, underscoring how the Murray State guard can be a franchise cornerstone for whichever team selects him.
