LSU Reinstates HC Will Wade After 37 Days Away from Team Amid Wiretap Scandal

BATON ROUGE , LOUISIANA - FEBRUARY 26: Head coach Will Wade of the LSU Tigers reacts to a play during a game against the Texas A&M Aggies at Pete Maravich Assembly Center on February 26, 2019 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. (Photo by Sean Gardner/Getty Images)

The LSU Tigers reinstated Will Wade to his position as head coach of the basketball team.

“Coach Wade met Friday with University and NCAA officials,” LSU athletic director Joe Alleva said in a statement, per NOLA.com’s Amie Just. “During those meetings, he answered all questions and denied any wrongdoing in connection with recently reported allegations of irregularities in college basketball recruiting.”

Amie Just @Amie_Just

BREAKING: #LSU has reinstated Will Wade.

The statement: https://t.co/0NBdoVk05r

On March 8, LSU announced it had suspended Wade indefinitely. The move came after Yahoo Sports’ Pat Forde, Pete Thamel and Dan Wetzel reported the FBI had obtained audio of a conversation between Wade and Christian Dawkins in which Wade allegedly addressed the pursuit of a prospective recruit.

A jury last October found Dawkins and two others guilty of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud after the three conspired to funnel money to the families of recruits in order to get the recruits to Adidas-sponsored schools.

According to the Yahoo Sports report, Wade allegedly referenced “this Smart thing” in his conversation with Dawkins. Javonte Smart was the No. 35 player in the 2018 recruiting class, per 247Sports’ composite rankings, and signed with the Tigers.

Dude. I went to him with a [expletive] strong-ass offer about a month ago,” Wade allegedly said to Dawkins, identifying an unknown third party in the recruiting process. “[Expletive] strong. The problem was, I know why he didn’t take it now, it was [expletive] tilted toward the family a little bit. It was tilted toward taking care of the mom, taking care of the kid. Like it was tilted towards that.”

Wade released a statement to NOLA.com in the wake of the report saying, “[The reports] do not begin to tell the full story.”

Because of his suspension, Wade missed LSU’s regular-season finale and the team’s opening-round loss to Florida in the SEC tournament. The Tigers reached the Sweet 16 of the 2019 NCAA tournament without him on the sideline. LSU’s 28 wins were its most since 2000.

White House messaging falls in line with Trump’s sanctuary cities proposal

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders

“Let’s spread out some of that burden and let’s put it in some of those other locations,” White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said of undocumented immigrants. | Evan Vucci/AP Photo

White House

Administration officials denied only days ago that the legally dubious policy was still under discussion.

President Donald Trump’s proposal to release detained undocumented immigrants into so-called sanctuary cities, categorically dismissed by the administration days ago, inched closer to reality on Sunday, with White House officials confirming that the controversial plan was back under consideration and urging immediate action in response to a surge of Central American migrants at the southern border.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said the administration was “looking to see if there are options that make” Trump’s proposal legally viable, and described it as “an option on the table” among other immigration enforcement measures.

Story Continued Below

“Certainly this wouldn’t be our first choice, because ideally we wouldn’t be dealing with the massive influx of illegal immigrants coming across the border,” Sanders told host George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s “This Week.”

“The president likes the idea, and Democrats have said they want these individuals into their communities,” she said. “So let’s see if it works and everybody gets a win out of it.”

Sanders’ acknowledgment that administration officials are revisiting the proposal follows denials from The White House and Department of Homeland Security to The Washington Post late last week that the idea was still under discussion.

But Trump on Friday contradicted his top aides and agency personnel by revealing that he was “strongly looking at” the plan, which Sanders on Sunday contended would “spread out” the “burden” of undocumented immigrants across the U.S.

“We don’t want to put all of the burden on one or two border communities, and Democrats have stated time and time again they support open borders, they support sanctuary cities,” Sanders said.

“So let’s spread out some of that burden and let’s put it in some of those other locations, if that’s what they want to see happen and are refusing to actually help fix the problem,” she added.

Sanders’ statement about sharing the “burden” of undocumented immigrants recalled the March 1964 proposal of Sen. Richard Russell (D-Ga.) to relocate African-Americans so that so much of the population was not concentrated in the Deep South. In arguing against integration in his region of the United States, Russell said: “It is only fair and right that the Negro population be spread more evenly over all sections of the nation.”

The president on Saturday evening dug in on his policy suggestion, writing on Twitter that the U.S. government had the “absolute legal right” to transport apprehended migrants to jurisdictions that limit local cooperation with federal immigration enforcement agents. It is not clear that is the case.

“We hereby demand that they be taken care of at the highest level, especially by the State of California, which is well known or its poor management & high taxes!” Trump wrote online.

Administration officials proposed the plan last November and again in February, according to The Post, as a form of political retaliation against the president’s opponents. Democratic bastions including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s district in San Francisco were among the targets.

While overall arrests remain below the high levels of the 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s, the number of family members intercepted at the southwest border soared in March, according to preliminary statistics from U.S. Customs and Border Protection — presenting the administration with what officials argue are unique challenges.

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway said Sunday that the onus lay with Pelosi’s caucus in the House to legislate a solution to “both a security crisis and a humanitarian crisis” at the U.S.-Mexico border, adding that “we’ve done a great deal of work” in Trump’s executive branch.

“We have an unserious Congress that is not coming to the table,” Conway told host Chuck Todd on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

“And the Republicans failed to do their job when they were in charge, no doubt. The Democrats now are failing to come together in the House,” she said.

But Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, said Sunday that little progress could be made on any immigration compromise with the White House given the number of high-level vacancies at DHS that resulted from the president’s purge of several department officials last week.

“We’re kind of in a rudderless situation,” Thompson said on ABC.

“The individuals tasked with the responsibility of carrying forth the administration’s policy, they’re just not soundly in place for this to occur,” he added.

Kirstjen Nielsen resigned as homeland security secretary last Sunday, following the White House’s unexpected decision to pull its nomination of Ronald Vitiello to become director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Claire Grady, the acting Homeland Security Department deputy secretary, also departed the administration on Tuesday — another casualty of an administration exodus engineered in part by Stephen Miller, the White House adviser who is the president’s top aide on matters of immigration.

It was Miller, too, who was responsible for engendering Trump’s proposal on sanctuary cities, Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, asserted on Sunday.

“We heard several weeks ago from whistle-blowers that Steve Miller came up with this before we heard about it from any other source,” Nadler told host Jake Tapper on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“Probably Steve Miller, who seems to be the boss of everybody on immigration, ought to come before Congress and explain some of these policies,” Nadler said.

By Shannon Connellan

In the lead-up to the premiere of Game of Thrones‘ final season, the show’s cast and crew have been understandably getting nostalgic.

That includes the Mother of Dragons herself, Emilia Clarke, who on Sunday posted an adorable Instagram shoutout to her green screen baby dragon, ahead of the first episode of Season 8.

SEE ALSO: Why Daenerys Targaryen should end up on the Iron Throne

“Me and my baby (dragon) (Drogon) just very excited for you all to see #season8gameofthrones which if I’m not mistaken begins….now,” she captioned the post, which shows Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen cuddling up to what will eventually be rendered as her beloved Drogon.

While Clarke had to use her imagination and kickass acting skills to picture Drogon flying through the sky, throwing down hectic incendiary damage, we got to see it like this:

Riding Drogon, Daenerys leads a Dothraki attack in Season 7.

Ready for the first episode? Make sure you have your bingo card ready. And remember, this is Game of Thrones — don’t get too attached to anyone, including the dragons.

How to not suck at being a manager according to your fave fictional bosses

Feel like you might be ready to lead? Maybe you’re thinking about starting an MBA but need some inspiration before you make your move? Look no further than your screen. Yep, as usual, pop culture is here to save the day.

These fearless film and television characters are guaranteed to inspire your inner leadership skills whether you’re planning on managing a team, dreaming of being your own boss or you’re simply looking for a competitive edge in your career.

Miranda Priestly

With her scathing commentary and unbelievably high expectations, Miranda Priestly, editor-in-chief of Runway magazine, might be one of the silver screen’s most feared (and revered) bosses.

Made famous in the 2006 movie, The Devil Wears Prada, the publishing magnate (reportedly based on real-life magazine editor Anna Wintour) might have been scary but she still managed to get a few things right. In between forcing her employees to forgo their friendships, relationships and personal commitments outside of work (that’s bad), Miranda taught her employees how to anticipate the needs of the magazine and company (that’s good).

While it’s crazy to expect anyone to read their boss’s minds, there’s something very useful about having the skills to anticipate what someone else needs in order to do their job and work collaboratively to achieve better outcomes.

Mr. Burns

“It’s Kurns, you idiot!” OK, no, it is Mr. Burns and yes, he’s a horrible tyrant who blocked out the sun, ran Bart over with his car, fired Homer more times than we can remember and had a proclivity for bribing city officials BUT… in being so evil and greedy, he’s also taught us a number of valuable lessons about how not to be a boss.

Monty Burns 101: Don’t silo yourself off from your business or employees. By actually involving yourself in your workplace and not just leaving the heavy lifting to someone else, this provides you with the opportunity to connect to staff and create an inclusive and supportive culture.

Just because you’re a leader doesn’t mean you’re above checking in with your team, hearing their suggestions and collaborating to create a better working environment. Poor leaders don’t truly realise (or care about) the consequences of their actions and the negative impact this has on others. Don’t do what Monty Burns does…

Margaret Tate

Being committed to your role and having a true love for what you do instantly makes you a better leader.

Being committed to your role and having a true love for what you do instantly makes you a better leader.

Image: Touchstone/Kobal/REX/Shutterstock

In the 2009 hit, The Proposal, Margaret Tate (played by the one and only Sandra Bullock) blackmails her assistant, Andrew (Ryan Reynolds) into agreeing to marry her in order to avoid being deported back to Canada.

While there’s no need to glorify that little moment, there are plenty of other instants throughout the film that make Margaret an amazing boss. The most important being that she truly loves her job. She isn’t there for the wrong reasons or to simply get ahead in her career – she’s there because she has a true passion for the work.

Being committed to your role and having a true love for what you do instantly makes you a better leader because you want what’s best for the company and you’re willing to work hard alongside your team to achieve positive outcomes.

Michael Scott

Buying your own statement mug doesn't necessarily make it true.

Buying your own statement mug doesn’t necessarily make it true.

Image: Mitch Haaseth/Nbc-Tv/Kobal/REX/Shutterstock

OK so here’s another big takeaway from the ‘how-not-to’ manage handbook. You probably remember Michael from The Office. You know, he’s the awkward boss who kind of has everyone’s best interests at heart but always seems to mess things up no matter what he does. His attempts at making everyone like him may seem harmless, but his managerial experience at Dunder Mifflin is a fantastic reminder that not everyone is born to lead.

To ensure you’re ready to take that position and lead a company or team of people, you need all the attributes Michael doesn’t have. Tact, trustworthiness, focus, and the ability to read people and situations. Basically — try not to be a narcissist, don’t take credit for other people’s work, and don’t make a point of criticising people. It doesn’t help anyone and to make matters worse, it makes you look bad too.

Liz Lemon

Lemon is easily one of television’s best bosses even though she never gets credit for it.

Lemon is easily one of television’s best bosses even though she never gets credit for it.

Image: Nicole Rivelli/Nbc-Tv/Kobal/REX/Shutterstock

As the head of the writing team for 30 Rock’s fictional variety show, The Girlie Show (or TGS with Tracy Jordan) Lemon is easily one of television’s best bosses even though she never gets credit for it.

Not only does she have to manage a number of large personalities in the ‘talent’ portion of her show, she also manages a group of quirky and neurotic writers who are all dealing with their own personal foibles. Basically, Lemon’s the gal who keeps the whole machine running and it’s up to her to be able to problem solve on a whim, delegate appropriately, and pander to the multiple egos she is forced to deal with on an hourly basis.

All in all, she’s got a lot of balls in the air, but she juggles them pretty well. Lemon might not know how to take care of herself, but like all good managers she can be trusted. She also understands that her actions affect the team’s motivation, so she adapts her approach to each individual to get the best out of them. No one-size-fits-all approach here.

Dr Perry Cox

He might have been the perennial grump on Scrubs but there’s no denying Dr. Cox (John C. McGinley) was also a great leader.

Why? Because he cared. Not about his staff’s feelings or their insignificant daily dramas, but about teaching them to be the best doctors they can be, so they could those who need their help most. His team trusted him and therefore worked harder and better as a result. He didn’t earn this trust by being their best friend, he earned it by being the ultimate example of what a good doctor (and person) can achieve if they work hard at something.

Tiger Woods Tweets ‘This Jacket Sure Is Comfortable’ After 2019 Masters Win

AUGUSTA, GEORGIA - APRIL 14: Tiger Woods (R) of the United States is awarded the Green Jacket by Masters champion Patrick Reed (L) during the Green Jacket Ceremony after winning the Masters at Augusta National Golf Club on April 14, 2019 in Augusta, Georgia. (Photo by David Cannon/Getty Images)

David Cannon/Getty Images

Tiger Woods had a message for his supporters after his win at the 2019 Masters:

Tiger Woods @TigerWoods

I can’t thank my family, friends and fans enough for their support. Having my family by my side today is something I will never forget. To not only be able to play again, but to be able to win again, is something I will forever be grateful for. This jacket sure is comfortable. https://t.co/LsOUX2dWH1

The win was the golfer’s 15th career major title but his first since 2008. His career had been derailed by injuries since a U.S. Open victory in ’08, including back problems that limited him throughout the past few years.

Although many thought his time as a champion had come and gone, he shocked nearly everyone with his come-from-behind win Sunday after he trailed Francesco Molinari by two strokes entering the fourth round. Based on Woods’ message, reaching this point was unexpected for him, as well.

Meanwhile, the 43-year-old also noted his family’s support, which was obvious immediately after he sank the winning putt at Augusta National:

CBS Sports @CBSSports

Simply incredible. https://t.co/cWIpdMpfzy

His children were too young to remember his last major title, but Woods seemed to enjoy their company in a celebration that also featured his mother.

Regardless of what he does the rest of his career, this should be a moment he remembers for a long time.

‘Game of Thrones’ season 8 must deliver an Arya vs. Cersei showdown

Ever since Arya Stark made her kill list and topped it off with Cersei Lannister’s name, theirs is the face-off I’ve been most waiting for. The two haven’t shared a scene since early Season 1 but their stories have intertwined in many ways.

Arya has managed to knock a few names off her list, including Walder Frey and Meryn Trant, but Cersei remains the one big profile name on it.

SEE ALSO: How’s Arya doing on her kill list ahead of ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8?

Just think of the catharsis.

Cersei and her family have taken too much away from the Starks. At this point, she hasn’t thought of Arya in forever, believing her to be dead. She has no freakin’ idea just how big of a threat the young Stark girl has turned into.

Season 7 came and went but we didn’t see Cersei finding out (at least on screen) that it was Arya who eliminated the Freys and is at Winterfell by Sansa’s side. Unless Littlefinger secretly passed that info to her before dying or Brienne maybe told Jamie at the Dragon Pit, there’s no way she can know.

Arya, meanwhile, is still headstrong in her desire to kill the Queen. She was heading to King’s Landing after the Frey massacre for this very mission. The only reason she chose to return home is because she heard of Jon’s victory in the Battle of the Bastards. She got momentarily sidetracked (Arya has emotions, too!) but knowing our girl, killing Cersei is still a priority. Her loathing probably increased a thousand-fold once she found out everything Cersei’s done to Sansa in the years after Season 1. It’s also sure to flare up once she learns of her betrayal by not sending soldiers North to fight with them.

SEE ALSO: Everything you need to remember from Season 7 of ‘Game of Thrones’

So, how will these two powerful enemies finally collide?

Lots of theories about Cersei’s death have been floating around thanks to Maggy the Frog’s prophecy. In Season 5’s opening scene, a young Cersei visits the seer and learns some not fun things about her future.

Most of it has come true: she never married the Prince (Rhaegar) but married the King (Robert). She had three children, each of whom are now dead. The prediction of a younger, more beautiful queen taking Cersei’s crown has plagued her in the form of Sansa, Margaery, and now Daenerys.

The most crucial information, which is most relevant to how Arya can get her ultimate revenge, wasn’t in the show at all. In A Feast for Crows, we learn the prophecy in its totality. Maggy tells Cersei:

“And when your tears have drowned you, the valonqar shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you”

Valonqar translates to “little brother” in High Valyrian. It’s partly why Cersei always hated Tyrion. She thought he’d be the one to kill her.

There’s another big twist potential here. Arya has trained with the Faceless Men. If she wants to get to Cersei without difficulty, the fastest way is wearing the face of her younger brother. But which one?

Cersei’s twisted love for Jaime makes her forget that her twin, who was born right after her, is technically younger. It’ll be easy for Arya to either kill Jaime as they fight the dead or take his face anyway if he perishes. She can then avoid The Mountain or kill him, slip into King’s Landing, and even into Cersei’s bed to choke her.

Or if Arya kills Tyrion and wears his face to kill Cersei. It’ll be way more convenient for her to pass off as Tyrion as opposed to Jaime. If either of those happen, Maggy’s prophecy will be fulfilled and Arya will succeed.

But that’s not how I want Arya vs. Cersei to play out.

Look, Cersei’s days are numbered. The entire world is basically against her right now, even her beloved Jaime, as the Night King approaches. She’s already survived far too long. She’s gotta go and I want Arya to experience the satisfaction of doing the deed. I want Cersei to know it’s Arya who kills her (Olenna gets it!).

Arya spent a long time in that horrid House of Black and White and with The Waif training just for this. I want her to be the one who overthrows the Lannisters while Sansa gives the order to do it, much like the two tackled Littlefinger.

All I know is that so far all of Arya’s kills have been like the first few season of Game of Thrones, great to witness but incomplete. We still need one final moment to see her and Cersei’s fateful, long-awaited meeting; one where she emerges as victorious and checks off the biggest name off her list. Our watch is just beginning.
