A few weeks ago, music streaming service Spotify filed a complaint with the European Commission, claiming that Apple’s App Store rules give Apple an “unfair advantage at every turn.”

Now, the Financial Times reports that the EU will launch a formal antitrust inquiry into the matter in the next couple of weeks.

SEE ALSO: iPad Air (2019) review: Apple’s best bang for your buck

In a blog post explaining its decision to file the complaint, Spotify CEO Daniel Ek said that Apple has put Spotify in an impossible position.

“Apple requires that Spotify and other digital services pay a 30 percent tax on purchases made through Apple’s payment system, including upgrading from our Free to our Premium service. If we pay this tax, it would force us to artificially inflate the price of our Premium membership well above the price of Apple Music,” he wrote.

“If we choose not to use Apple’s payment system, forgoing the charge, Apple then applies a series of technical and experience-limiting restrictions on Spotify.”

Apple fired back with a blog post of its own, claiming that “Spotify wants all the benefits of a free app without being free,” saying it uses “misleading rhetoric” and accusing Spotify of short-changing the artists whose music it distributes.

Notably, just a day after Spotify’s public complaint, the EU Commissioner for Competition Margrethe Vestager tweeted that the Spotify CEO sent a “strong message.”

Now, the European Union will reportedly rule over the dispute (both Apple and Spotify declined to comment to Financial Times). EU’s regulators haven’t exactly been shy when it came to imposing large fines on tech companies over antitrust regulations breaches. But there are nuances to this case, and hopefully the EU will decide in a way that best benefits the artists and the consumers.

‘Uno’ wants you to stop pulling this illegal, but diabolical move

'Uno's rule clarification hasn't really thrilled all.

You’re probably guilty of doing this too.

Uno, the card game, has called out people who stack a Draw 2 card on top of a Draw 4, a truly devastating move which forces the next player to pick up six cards.

SEE ALSO: ‘Final Fantasy XV’ director is making an RPG about and endorsed by the Paralympic Games

The move can eventuate with someone picking up many more cards, if you’re playing with some truly evil friends. But it’s no bueno, as clarified by the game’s Twitter post.

If someone puts down a +4 card, you must draw 4 and your turn is skipped. You can’t put down a +2 to make the next person Draw 6. We know you’ve tried it. #UNO pic.twitter.com/wOegca4r0h

— UNO (@realUNOgame) May 4, 2019

When a Draw 4 card is put down, Uno‘s rules state that the next person must pick up four cards, and their turn is skipped. There is no drowning of people in cards, despite how fun it is to do so.

The rule clarification, understandably, prompted plenty of thoughts.

And no, you can’t stack Draw 2 or Draw 4 cards on each other, either, even though that’s not what Uno‘s own rules state (on Draw 2 cards at least).

OK, we have a good feeling that people will ignore Uno‘s official rules anyway. That’s why there’s a thing called house rules, letting you do whatever you want.

But please, don’t come running to us after you’ve destroyed all your friendships.

i know this is literally your game that you made up but this is incorrect im sorry https://t.co/EZ4wTxRqYH

‘Game of Thrones’ Episode 4 recap: A disappointing middle

Dany wasn't the only one screaming at Episode 4.

By Alexis Nedd

Warning: Spoilers for Game of Thrones: Season 8, Episode 4 below.

Game of Thrones faked everyone out again.

After last episode’s supreme twist wherein Arya killed the Night King, the show surprised its audience by dishing up a large helping of fan service followed by a steaming pile of disappointment.

SEE ALSO: ‘Game of Thrones’ prepares for war in Episode 5 preview

On the good side, the Battle of Winterfell party made many people happy by showcasing fun character moments and a long-awaited moments like Gendry proposing to Arya and Brienne finally banging Jamie. On the bad side, the tension between Dany and Jon became unbearable as the final season marched towards the doom of yet another dragon and the beloved Missandei.

Twitter was also rightfully upset that various other plot lines ended unceremoniously, including the sidelining of Jon’s direwolf Ghost (who just gets to go north of the Wall without Jon so much as petting him goodbye), Tormund leaving Westeros for the lands above the wall, Jamie leaving Brienne in the same episode they got together, and Tyrion and Varys waffling over whether to support Jon or Dany after the news of Jon’s heritage spreads like wildfire.

Y’all give Brienne dick one time and she’s crying? ABSOLUTELY the fuck not. #GameOfThrones

At this point no one should be surprised that a party can go wrong on Game of Thrones, but this episode in particular was a roller coaster of emotions that ended on a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad note.

With Rhaegal and Missandei dead, Tormund gone, Brienne brokenhearted, Jon following Ned’s footsteps down south, Tyrion and Varys plotting treason, and Danerys pissed off beyond reason, it’s going to be a very interesting two final episodes to HBO’s massive hit show.

But if the social reaction to tonight’s plot line is any example of how pissed people are going to be with the show’s final movements, it looks like Twitter is the place to look for the consensus on what Game of Thrones‘ legacy will be.

NBA L2M Report: James Harden Committed a Charge on Game 3 Dagger vs. Warriors

HOUSTON, TX - MAY 04: James Harden #13 of the Houston Rockets reacts after Game Three of the Second Round of the 2019 NBA Western Conference Playoffs against the Golden State Warriors at Toyota Center on May 4, 2019 in Houston, Texas. Just a few days after the officials potentially cost the Houston Rockets a win in Game 1, they might have helped them out in Game 3.

The Rockets earned their first win of the second round Saturday with a 126-121 overtime victory over the Golden State Warriors. However, the NBA‘s Last Two Minute Report shows that James Harden should have been called for an offensive foul on his clutch floater in the final minute:

Bleacher Report @BleacherReport

Harden dagger. Steph missed layup.

Rockets take Game 3. https://t.co/PrjiCqBGBZ

This would have kept the score at 124-121, giving the Warriors the ball with a chance to tie the game.

The officials swallowed their whistles, however, and the Rockets went up two possessions before holding on for the victory.

The only other incorrect ruling listed in the report also benefitted the Rockets, as Chris Paul should have been called for a loose-ball foul on the jump ball with 1.5 seconds remaining in regulation.

This is a major change from the Game 1 Last Two Minute Report, which saw all three incorrect calls go against Houston. Stephen Curry got away with fouls twice in the last two minutes—a significant development considering the guard had five fouls at the time.

Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni said the refs told him at halftime that they missed four calls, per Ben Golliver of the Washington Post.

Now it seems the Warriors are the ones who could have a legitimate beef with the officials.

Although we don’t know whether any of the calls would have affected the outcome of the games, the refs are, unfortunately, part of the series’ story once again.

Curfew imposed after religious tension rises in Negombo

Sri Lanka has imposed a curfew in the city of Negombo, site of one of the Easter Sunday bombings, to contain religious violence.

Tensions gripped Negombo on Sunday as authorities prepared to reopen public schools after an extended Easter vacation following the suicide attacks.

Sri Lanka military spokesperson Brigadier Sumith Atapattu told The Associated Press that the fight on Sunday was between ethnic Sinhalese people and Muslims.

St. Sebastian’s Church in majority-Catholic Negombo was among the six sites bombed in the Easter Sunday bombings that killed 257 people.

“At least two motorcycles and two three-wheel taxis have been damaged in the clashes,” a police officer told AFP news agency. “We declared a curfew till 7.00 am (0130 GMT) to contain the unrest.”

There were no immediate reports of casualties.

The country’s main international airport is located in the area, but police said there was no disruption to airport traffic. Elite Special Task Force commandos were deployed to patrol the streets, police said.

The senior officer said an investigation was underway into the clashes, the first violence between Muslims and Christians since the April 21 attacks targeting three churches and three luxury hotels in the country.

The Sri Lankan government has also reimposed a ban on social media platforms in an effort to stop the spread of rumours after the violence.

Sri Lanka has been under a state of emergency since the suicide bombings. Security forces and police have been give sweeping powers to arrest and detain suspects for long periods.

Police spokesperson Ruwan Gunasekera said “police and soldiers combed school premises and the surrounding areas to make sure it is safe for children to go back” on Monday.

Visa restrictions ‘tightened’

Home Affairs Minister Vajira Abeywardena said 200 clerics were found to have overstayed visas, for which fines were imposed and they were then expelled.

“Considering the current situation in the country, we have reviewed the visas system and took a decision to tighten visa restrictions for religious teachers,” Abeywardena told AFP.

“Out of those who were sent out, about 200 were Islamic preachers.”

Last week, Sri Lankan police released the names and photographs of nine alleged suicide bombers who carried out the attacks, all belonging to an offshoot of a local group called National Towheed Jamaat.

They included Mohamed Zahran, also known as Zahran Hashim, who was described as the attack leader, and the wife of another suicide bomber who blew herself up along with her children and three police officers, at a villa belonging to her father-in-law, who was a prominent spice trader.

Harris assails Trump for hateful rhetoric

Sen. Kamala Harris

Sen. Kamala Harris directly accused President Donald Trump of fueling sexism, racism, anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, homophobia and transphobia. | Zach Gibson/Getty Images

2020 Elections

‘This president isn’t trying to make America great; he’s trying to make America hate.’

Kamala Harris intensified her frontal assault on Donald Trump late Sunday, condemning the president for attacking communities of color and denigrating African countries with “foul language no president should speak.”

Harris, decamping from her brand-reinforcing battering of Attorney General Bill Barr, singled out Trump’s response to the violent marchers in Charlottesville, Va. “It’s time we had a president who’s not scared to call neo-Nazi violence what it is: domestic terrorism,” the Democratic presidential hopeful told thousands at the NAACP’s Freedom Fund dinner reception in Detroit.

Story Continued Below

While Harris has not shied away from taking on Trump on the campaign trail, the California senator had largely kept focused on what she describes as his dangerous policies, even as Democratic rivals like Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden assail the president on character and moral grounds. Harris’ remarks in Detroit represented an escalation in her pointed rhetoric against Trump. It was also an opportunity, albeit obliquely, for Harris to punch holes in the persistent media narrative that it will take a white, male candidate to win over white, working-class voters in the Midwest.

Harris directly accused Trump of going after communities and leaders of color by name. She spoke about Trump’s “war” to destroy Obamacare. And she accused him of fueling sexism, racism, anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, homophobia, and transphobia.

“Let’s speak truth here today — this president isn’t trying to make America great; he’s trying to make America hate,” Harris said. “So, it is critical to our security, our dignity, and our unity as a nation when I say: ‘We need a new president.’“

Harris arrived in Michigan with momentum from her tough questioning of Barr during the Senate Judiciary hearing last week. The viral moment helped buttress her campaign’s main theory: That she, a career prosecutor, could match wits with the brash president and use her courtroom training to prosecute the case against his policies.

Harris had mostly refrained from wading into questions about the 2020 electoral map, including when she’s asked about how Democrats could appeal to white, working-class voters in the Midwest. But during her first extended trip to the Rust Belt as a presidential candidate, Harris began to lay out what she — a coastal senator who is black and represents a liberal state — believes is missing from the usual debate since Trump swept Hillary Clinton in the key battlegrounds in 2016.

“There has been a conversation by pundits about ‘electability’ and ‘who can speak to the Midwest?’ Harris said, arguing that the focus of the debate tends to put the Midwest in a “simplistic box” — and “leaves out” entire constituencies, including women and African Americans her campaign is counting on to power her in the primaries.

“It leaves out people in this room who helped build cities like Detroit,” Harris told the largely black audience. “It leaves out working women who are on their feet all day — many of them working without equal pay.”

Harris continued, contending the conversation too often suggests certain voters will only vote for certain candidates — regardless of whether their ideas help all families.

“It’s short-sighted. It’s wrong,” she said. “And voters deserve better.”

“Our party is not white or Black, Hispanic or Asian, immigrant or indigenous,” she later added. “It is all of us.”

Cheeky kid flips off TV crew in the middle of live cross

By Johnny Lieu

It’s one of the perils of live TV: Someone out there is going to ruin the shot.

Even in the quaint surrounds of Windsor in the UK, where a reporter for Australian show Sunrise was upstaged by a kid in a passing car on Sunday night.

SEE ALSO: Kids hack dad’s facial recognition lock in easiest way possible

Windsor Castle is one of the official residences for the British Royal Family, where the Queen usually spends her weekends — and where reporter Edwina Bartholomew was covering the imminent arrival of the royal baby of Meghan and Harry, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

While the castle might be a place of good etiquette, don’t expect that on the streets of Windsor, where you might be accosted by a kid who’ll flip you off for fun.

“Speaking of bad parenting, what about that little kid who pulled up behind me before,” Bartholomew said on Sunrise. “What a little rotter.”

While flipping off a live TV crew is admittedly pretty funny for the rest of us, unfortunately for the kid, the video evidence won’t help him when his parents eventually find out.

Jamal Murray Drops 34 as Nuggets Beat Damian Lillard, Blazers to Tie Series at 2

The Denver Nuggets tied their second-round playoff series against the Portland Trail Blazers at two games apiece with a 116-112 victory in Sunday’s Game 4 at Moda Center.

After losing a Game 3 heartbreaker in four overtimes, Denver reclaimed home-court advantage by earning the split it needed in the past two games in Portland.

Nikola Jokic was brilliant with a triple-double of 21 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists, battling through a limp and any lingering fatigue from the last contest. It was far from a solo effort for the visitors, though, as Jamal Murray (34 points, five rebounds, four assists and six clutch free throws in the final 14 seconds) and Paul Millsap (21 points and 10 boards) helped propel Denver to victory.

Lillard was the guard who generated the majority of the headlines coming into this series, but Denver has a go-to option of its own who has stood toe-to-toe with the All-Star.

Murray scored 34 points in each of the last two games after scoring 23 with eight assists in a Game 1 win and is playing some of the best basketball of his career. It is another sign of his development into a franchise cornerstone after he posted a career-high 18.2 points and 4.8 assists a night during the regular season.

Josh Eberley 🇨🇦 @JoshEberley

In this series:

Jamal Murray: 94 points, 79 shots.
Damian Lillard: 93 points, 75 shots.

His emergence as a reliable option after an inconsistent first round has also unlocked Denver’s potential as more than just a single-round victor.

The Nuggets have their pillars in the frontcourt, and they were both impressive for extended stretches in Sunday’s win. Millsap was a primary reason why the visitors had an answer almost every time Portland went on a run, as they knew they could turn to him on the blocks or count on him calmly playing off Jokic and working into openings on the other side of the rim.

He is the veteran leader who helped Denver survive the early Portland spurts and raucous crowd that sensed a 3-1 lead, and overcoming those emotional swings put the team in position to go to Murray and Jokic in crunch time.

Joe Vardon @joevardon

Paul Millsap, THE playoff veteran for the Nuggets, is having a wonderful game on a night Denver has to win

Jokic answered with an array of plays in the closing stretch that underscored his status as a premier playmaker in the league. He found Will Barton for two critical three-pointers to extend the lead to two possessions each time, one of which came on a pump fake and drive from the big man on the perimeter.

He also dished to a cutting Gary Harris for an and-1 to extend the lead to six, limped off the court after the play and still returned for the final minute to help clinch the win. As if that weren’t enough, his standing tip-in with one hand after Lillard scored two straight baskets sent a message that Portland’s guard wasn’t going to take the game over in the final minutes without a counterpunch.

Troy Renck @TroyRenck

#Nuggets Jokic messed around and got another triple double. It’s his fourth of postseason, breaking Fat Lever’s franchise record. “It’s what I live for,” Jokic said on Altitude radio. #Denver7

Jokic is the All-Star in the middle who operates much of the offense, and Millsap is the quiet general, but Denver needed more to ward off the red-hot Trail Blazers and their pair of game-changing guards.

Enter Murray, who gives the team the third option to win two of the next three games and perhaps even challenge the combination of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson or James Harden and Chris Paul in the next round.

He is gaining confidence in this showdown with the McCollum-Lillard duo and is often a barometer for the Nuggets’ results. He scored 23 or more points in all four wins in the first round against the San Antonio Spurs but had 17, 16 and an ugly six in the three losses.

Denver lost by seven in Game 2 against Portland when he had just 15 but is 2-1 with a four-overtime loss in the other three when he played well.

The Nuggets are a title contender when Murray plays like he has the last two games. They are nothing but narrow first-round victors when he struggles.

What’s Next?

The series returns to Denver for Tuesday’s Game 5.
