RJ Barrett 2019 NBA Draft Rumors: Duke Star Prefers to Play for Lakers or Knicks

Duke forward RJ Barrett (5) reacts after scoring against Michigan State during the second half of an NCAA men's East Regional final college basketball game in Washington, Sunday, March 31, 2019. (AP Photo/Alex Brandon)

Alex Brandon/Associated Press

Duke forward RJ Barrett, projected to be a top-three pick in the 2019 NBA draft, would prefer to play for the New York Knicks or Los Angeles Lakers, according to Marc Berman of the New York Post.

The Knicks and Lakers hold the Nos. 3 and 4 selections, respectively.

The New Orleans Pelicans figure to take Duke forward and consensus top prospect Zion Williamson at No. 1, and the Memphis Grizzlies are “locked in” on Murray State point guard Ja Morant, per Jonathan Givony of ESPN.

Barrett isn’t ranked lower than third in any of the six mock drafts aggregated by Bryan Kalbrosky of HoopsHype, so it’s hard to see how he’d slip below No. 3.

Barrett probably won’t be headed for Los Angeles, as the Knicks would likely take him before L.A. has the chance.

However, it’s conceivable that the Knicks try to package the No. 3 pick in exchange for New Orleans Pelicans All-Star big man Anthony Davis, who requested a trade in January.

Ian Begley of SNY reported that Davis, who is a free agent after the 2019-20 season, would be open to re-signing long-term in New York. The Knicks also have a group of talented players under 25 years old (Mitchell Robinson, Dennis Smith Jr., Kevin Knox) who could help entice the Pels into a deal if New York includes some future first-round picks, as well.

Jonathan Wasserman of Bleacher Report wondered about the possibility:

Jonathan Wasserman @NBADraftWass

If Anthony Davis trade request stands, wonder if the Pelicans would have interest in re-pairing Barrett with Zion. Knicks could offer Barrett + multiple first-rounders + more young talent.

New York could also simply move forward with Barrett, who averaged 22.6 points and 7.6 rebounds during his lone season at Duke. He entered the year as the class of 2018’s No. 1 recruit, per 247Sports, and looks like he’ll be scoring 25-plus points per night for years.

ESPN’s Jalen Rose (h/t Adam Zagoria of the New York Times) thinks New York should hang onto the pick:

Adam Zagoria @AdamZagoria

“RJ Barrett could easily be the best player in the draft. If I’m the Knicks, yes I hold on to the pick.” – @JalenRose https://t.co/Ne9SKrJreS

And Tommy Beer of Rotoworld noted the Knicks will be getting a “stud” regardless of whether it’s Barrett or Morant:

Tommy Beer @TommyBeer

Knicks get the 3rd pick.

I know Knicks fans don’t want to hear this right now, because they lost out on Zion, but getting a top-3 pick is a win. NY beat the odds to land No. 3.

Knicks will likely draft either Ja Morant or RJ Barrett.

They are getting a stud.

The odds probably favor Barrett starting his NBA career in the Big Apple. But if a Davis trade occurs, landing in New Orleans with ex-teammate Williamson wouldn’t be a bad outcome.

Robert Pattinson is reportedly the star of ‘The Batman’

Is Robert Pattinson the next Batman? Reports say yes.
Is Robert Pattinson the next Batman? Reports say yes.

By Adam Rosenberg

Robert Pattinson is the next Dark Knight, it appears.

When Batman returns to the big screen in 2021, the face behind his trademark cowl will reportedly belong to the Twilight star, sources told Variety

The publisher reports the deal hasn’t been 100 percent sealed, but that Pattinson is expected to be confirmed soon.

Deadline, however, reported the star has not yet been confirmed, noting that director Matt Reeves and Warner Bros merely have Pattinson on a short list alongside Tolkien star Nicholas Hoult.

Ben Affleck bowed out of his role in Warner Bros.’ DC Extended Universe with an announcement in late January.

SEE ALSO: Ben Affleck hands over his cape to a new Batman

Affleck is still set to produce The Batman, as the 2021 movie is called, with frequent J.J. Abrams collaborator Reeves set to direct. Reeves may be best known for his work on the two most recent Planet of the Apes reboot sequels, though he also directed Cloverfield and, with Abrams, created the ’90s TV series Felicity.

Pattinson will be the seventh actor to play a big screen Batman, after Adam West, Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, and Affleck. (Will Arnett also voices the character in the Lego movies, and Kevin Conroy’s work on Batman: The Animated Series is legendary.)

Less clear is how Pattinson’s casting — and, really, Affleck’s exit from the role — affects the make up of the DCEU. Reports have suggested that whoever landed the role would play a younger Bruce Wayne, a choice that would seem to complicate any efforts to include him in WB’s ongoing series.

Warner Bros. will release The Batman on June 24, 2021.

Bulls Rumors: Celtics PG Terry Rozier on Chicago’s ‘Radar’ Entering Free Agency

Boston Celtics guard Terry Rozier during the second half of an NBA basketball game against the Sacramento Kings, Wednesday, March 6, 2019, in Sacramento, Calif. The Celtics won 111-109. (AP Photo/Rich Pedroncelli)

Rich Pedroncelli/Associated Press

Boston Celtics point guard Terry Rozier is “on the [Chicago] Bulls‘ radar” as free agency approaches this summer, according to The Athletic’s Darnell Mayberry

Mayberry noted the Bulls are fans of Rozier’s “fearless play and hard-nosed defensive effort.”

The 2015 first-round pick is a restricted free agent, so Boston would have the right to match any offer sheet.

After Rozier played a big role helping the team come within one game of the 2018 NBA Finals, both he and the Celtics endured a tough 2018-19 campaign.

This past season, Rozier averaged 9.0 points on 38.7 percent shooting, including 35.3 percent from three-point range. That came after he averaged a career-high 11.3 points while shooting 38.1 percent from beyond the arc in 2017-18, and he even moved into a starting role when All-Star Kyrie Irving missed the end of that breakout season due to a knee injury.

He averaged 16.5 points, 5.7 assists and 5.3 rebounds during the Celtics’ run to the 2018 Eastern Conference Finals.

While Boston appeared to be a preseason favorite to win the East as Irving and Gordon Hayward returned from injuries, the team never reached its potential this season. Four straight losses to the Milwaukee Bucks resulted in a second-round exit.

Brian Robb @BrianTRobb

Someone might want to show Terry Rozier his playoff stats (team-worst 32% FG, 23% 3-pt, third highest usage rate among regulars) before his next interview.

After the season wrapped up, Rozier made it known that there were issues within the locker room.

“It was tough, dealing with all the talent we had, different guys wanted to be in the limelight, guys in the limelight, s–t like that,” he revealed, per NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Forsberg. “It’s been a lot.”

He added, per The Athletic’s Jay King: “Because I’ve been dealing with some bulls–t. I feel like we all still had that one goal. It wasn’t easy on coach dealing with a lot of guys that want to be great trying to get theirs.”

Rozier then admitted on ESPN’s Get Up! on Tuesday that it had been “very difficult” for him to adjust to a reduced role this season. Not only that, but he added on ESPN’s First Take that he “might have to go” if the Celtics bring back the same group next season.

First Take @FirstTake

If the Celtics don’t make any roster changes this offseason, would @T_Rozzay3 want to keep playing in Boston?

Here’s his answer: https://t.co/3fJuaORoTN

Rozier’s future in Boston could be tied to Irving’s free-agent decision. While Irving said in October 2018 he planned on re-signing with the Celtics, he later added ambiguity to the situation by saying “Ask me July 1” when asked about his free-agency plans during the season.

If Irving re-signs, Boston may not be inclined to match a lucrative offer sheet for Rozier. If Irving signs elsewhere, though, Rozier would become a more valuable asset to the Celtics.
