Big news everyone! There are still a few good things left on Twitter.

Take the account of Hadie Mart, aka @CostcoRiceBag. It may look to the untrained eye like a normal Twitter account, but it is actually a series of tweets that secretly contain entirety of the iconic Queen song “Bohemian Rhapsody.” Hadie spent four months crafting the finest of tweets in order to accomplish the feat.

To clarify, Mart hid the lyrics to each song in the first word of every tweet on her account. To start off here’s her last tweet, and the first lyric to the song:

IS IT JUST ME, OR DID I JUST PULL OFF THE GREATEST TWITTER SCHEME OF ALL TIME?????

Read the first word of my tweets to find out….

— Hadie Mart (@CostcoRiceBag) August 23, 2018

She goes on to continue writing the lyrics of the song in the first word of each respective tweet.

This is the moment I’ve been waiting for for four whole months……

Just told an 11 year old boy what’s up bc he tried telling me that some girls will never get married because there are more girls than boys in the world

— Hadie Mart (@CostcoRiceBag) August 22, 2018

So if you get it, it should read out, “Is this the real life?” Is this just fantasy?” And then it goes on from there. Clever right?

Her mama tweets are also really well hidden, and super normal. NO ONE would have ever guessed what she was scheming.

Mama V wrote me the cutest note and I’ve read it over every day since Thursday 💓

— Hadie Mart (@CostcoRiceBag) August 4, 2018

Mama T: how many RTs to let Tilly come to my birthday party?

— Hadie Mart (@CostcoRiceBag) August 2, 2018

It’s also quite impressive how she managed to slide “Galileo” five times almost effortlessly.

Galileo just rolled over in his grave (1/5)

— Hadie Mart (@CostcoRiceBag) July 9, 2018

Galileo invented a telescope by method of trial and error that was powerful enough to see into space in the 1600s (2/5)

— Hadie Mart (@CostcoRiceBag) July 9, 2018

And it’s also pretty great that she managed to slide “Beelzebub” into a normal tweet about cavities.

Beezlebub is laughing at me bc after almost 21 years of life I have my first cavity

— Hadie Mart (@CostcoRiceBag) May 23, 2018

Since May 7, Hadie has tweeted over 300 times to get every single word out. Here’s the first tweet she made, and the last word of the song.

Blows my mind that school used to go into JUNE and somehow I tolorated it

— Hadie Mart (@CostcoRiceBag) May 7, 2018

Congrats Hadie. You’re officially the best summer schemer of 2018.

What’s behind Uganda’s recent political unrest?

Robert Kyagulanyi, a musician-turned-MP whose arrest prompted protests in Uganda, has been charged with treason.

The singer, who goes by the stage name Bobi Wine, has been under military custody since August 14 for allegedly leading a group of people to pelt Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni’s convoy with stones ahead of a by-election in a northern town.

Kyagulanyi joined the parliament last year and is one of the most popular faces of Ugandan opposition.

He is a strong critic of long-time leader Museveni, who has been in power since 1986.

Widespread protests and a crackdown by state forces followed Kyagulanyi’s detention last week.

So, what does the unrest and his prosecution mean for Uganda?

Trump tells Pompeo to cancel North Korea visit

Mike Pompeo

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Thursday that he would be traveling to North Korea next week. On Friday, Trump asked him to cancel the trip. | Cliff Owen/AP Photo

President Donald Trump on Friday asked Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to cancel an upcoming trip to North Korea, arguing that the United States has not made “sufficient progress” on nuclear talks with the country and partly blaming China for the difficulties.

“I do not believe they are helping with the process of denuclearization as they once were,” he wrote, saying that Beijing was acting out because of “our much tougher Trading stance with China.”

Story Continued Below

It was the latest out-of-left-field move by Trump when it comes to North Korea, an isolated Asian country whose nuclear arsenal is considered one of America’s top national security threats. And once again, it is difficult to say how the North Koreans, or the Chinese, will react to what appears to be a Trump pressure tactic.

Pompeo said Thursday that he would visit North Korea next week, taking along Stephen Biegun, the new U.S. envoy for the nuclear talks. Pompeo didn’t issue a response to Trump on Friday, but he retweeted the president’s statements, indicating he would follow the orders.

“I have asked Secretary of State Mike Pompeo not to go to North Korea, at this time, because I feel we are not making sufficient progress with respect to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula,” Trump wrote Friday in a series of tweets.

As is often the case with the unpredictable commander in chief, however, Trump left open the possibility he could change his mind — hinting that he hoped for a second summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

“Secretary Pompeo looks forward to going to North Korea in the near future, most likely after our Trading relationship with China is resolved,” Trump wrote. “In the meantime I would like to send my warmest regards and respect to Chairman Kim. I look forward to seeing him soon!”

Friday is not the first time Trump has unexpectedly upended U.S. diplomatic overtures to North Korea.

In the run-up to his historic June summit with Kim, Trump called off the get-together only to reschedule it days later. He also used Twitter last year to tell his previous secretary of state, Rex Tillerson, not to bother to pursue diplomacy with Pyongyang.

The U.S. and North Korea have been negotiating for months over a deal for Pyongyang to give up its nuclear weapons program in exchange for economic and security concessions.

The negotiations followed the Trump administration’s “maximum pressure” campaign against Pyongyang that was built largely around sanctions.

Trump surprised the world when he agreed to Kim’s invitation to meet in person and jump-start nuclear talks. When the pair met, Kim agreed to a statement promising “complete denuclearization” of the peninsula.

The statement, however, was vague, and not nearly as comprehensive as past agreements between the U.S. and North Korea that have fallen apart. In the months since, the two sides have struggled to flesh out a proper deal, and North Korea is believed to be continuing its nuclear program.

Normani Demands ‘Some Fucking Respect’ On Jessie Reyez’s ‘Body Count’ Remix

Getty Images

Months after Fifth Harmony disbanded, Normani has found a (temporary) new “girl gang” — and they’ve got a biting, badass message for the men of the world.

The newly minted soloist has hopped on a fresh remix of Jessie Reyez‘s self-love anthem “Body Count,” which also features fellow R&B star Kehlani. Together, the three women flex their hard-earned independence — Normani, for one, cooly instructs, “You were birthed by a woman, show some fucking respect / I like you much better when you shut up and get down on your knees.” Woo!

Normani and Kehlani’s swaggering verses are tied together by Reyez’s original, passionate hook: “We don’t care what they say / We gon’ love who we wanna love.” It might be the most empowering, feminist anthem you’ve heard since “God Is a Woman.”

Reyez’s “Body Count” remix appears on her upcoming Being Human in Public EP, slated for release this fall. The seven-track project also features her first Spanish-language release, “Sola,” and the recently released “Apple Juice,” which Reyez performed at last weekend’s VMAs. Revisit that performance below, and keep your fingers crossed for more collabs from this dynamite trio.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s ‘Crashing’ is a bingeworthy delight

About a month ago, I was talking to a friend about TV when she expressed her effusive love for Crashing. I was puzzled, but not unappreciative; I’ve watched both seasons of Pete Holmes’ cute comedy about comedy, and while it’s not something I rewatch intently, I respected her unlikely enthusiasm.

Except that she was talking about a different show entirely.

Crashing rang a bell because it also happens to be the title of a short-lived U.K. comedy from Fleabag‘s Phoebe Waller-Bridge. A day later, I had binged it all, and my friend was correct: This show is delightful.

SEE ALSO: This Netflix hidden gem is the must-watch comedy for our dark times

As the title suggests, Crashing is about a group of people and their temporary living situation – in this case, an unused hospital. Waller-Bridge originally developed the story as two plays and stars in the pilot as Lulu, who upsets the eclectic status quo by showing up to surprise her best friend Anthony (Damien Molony) much to the dismay of his uptight fiancée Kate (Louise Ford).

While that sets up a classic love triangle and an equally classic pair of close friends who clearly haven’t explored their own chemistry, Crashing doesn’t let romantic tension dominate its six episodes in an overbearing way. We spend as much time with the rapscallion Sam (Jonathan Bailey) and his new friend Fred (Amit Shah), with French firecracker Melody (Julie Dray) and her divorcé muse Colin (Adrian Scarborough).

Platonic friends do not tolerate spontaneous ukelele performances.

Platonic friends do not tolerate spontaneous ukelele performances.

What makes Crashing so special is that it is every bit about muddled twenty-somethings trying to figure things out, but the show opts to tell its stories through exclusively through unconventional and often confusing relationships.

Sam and Fred meet in the first episode and forge a zero to 100 friendship that takes them both by surprise; Melody and Colin stand up for their unprecedented relationship while baffled by its volatility; Lulu and Kate experience the extremes of kinship and jealous enmity that make female friendships so rich on and off-screen.

Waller-Bridge is effervescent as ever, commanding the screen with another comedy heroine who is unapologetically messy but undoubtedly soldiering on. She never gets out of a single awkward situation; she just enters into a newer, more mortifying one and redirects the heat.

There is an unforgettable visual in one episode of Lulu, wine-drunk and down about Anthony but also trying to seduce Sam as she swims in the remains of a ruined dinner. Secondhand embarrassment doesn’t begin to cover it, but Waller-Bridge’s commitment to speaking her character’s truth makes this moment ultimately endearing.

Crashing will probably never get another season or mainstream success, especially with Waller-Bridge having moved on and grown more prolific for Fleabag and recently Killing Eve. But that’s okay, because this brief, beautiful gem of a show will live forever on streaming and still has so much insight to offer about how bizarre circumstances are not only valid, but formative.

Crashing is streaming on Netflix.

“Mr. Weisselberg was called to testify before a federal grand jury in the investigation earlier this year, The Wall Street Journal previously reported, citing people familiar with the investigation.

“The decision by prosecutors in the Manhattan U.S. attorney’s office to grant immunity to Mr. Weisselberg escalates the pressure on Mr. Trump, whom Mr. Weisselberg has served for decades as executive vice president and chief financial officer of the Trump Organization. After Mr. Trump was elected, he handed control of his financial assets and business interests to his two adult sons and Mr. Weisselberg.” WSJ

NYT’S MICHAEL WILSON: “Former Head of C.D.C. Arrested on Sex Abuse Charge”: “Dr. Thomas R. Frieden, who ran the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for eight years under President Obama, was arrested in Brooklyn on Friday and charged with sex abuse after an incident in October 2017, the police said.

“There were few details available about his arrest. Dr. Frieden is expected to appear in court later on Friday. He was also charged with forcible touching and harassment of a Brooklyn woman, the police said.” NYT

JUST POSTED — WSJ’S MARK MAREMONT and ROB BARRY: “Michael Cohen Guilty Plea Reveals Link to Qatari Royal Family”: “A $100,000 real-estate brokerage fee that was part of former Trump attorney Michael Cohen’s guilty plea Tuesday came from representing a company owned by a member of the Qatar royal family, according to interviews and real-estate documents.” WSJ

WHAT’S ON THE PRESIDENT’S MIND — @realDonaldTrump at 6:04 a.m.: “Our Economy is setting records on virtually every front — Probably the best our country has ever done. Tremendous value created since the Election. The World is respecting us again! Companies are moving back to the U.S.A.”

… at 6:17 a.m.: “‘Department of Justice will not be improperly influenced by political considerations.’ Jeff, this is GREAT, what everyone wants, so look into all of the corruption on the ‘other side’ including deleted Emails, Comey lies & leaks, Mueller conflicts, McCabe, Strzok, Page, Ohr……”

MORE FROM TRUMP … at 7:10 a.m.: “Ex-NSA contractor to spend 63 months in jail over ‘classified’ information. Gee, this is ‘small potatoes’ compared to what Hillary Clinton did! So unfair Jeff, Double Standard.”

… at 7:34 a.m.: “Social Media Giants are silencing millions of people. Can’t do this even if it means we must continue to hear Fake News like CNN, whose ratings have suffered gravely. People have to figure out what is real, and what is not, without censorship!”

YIKES — “Kremlin Sources Go Quiet, Leaving C.I.A. in the Dark About Putin’s Plans for Midterms,” by NYT’s Julian E. Barnes and Matthew Rosenberg: “The officials do not believe the sources have been compromised or killed. Instead, they have concluded they have gone to ground amid more aggressive counterintelligence by Moscow, including efforts to kill spies, like the poisoning in March in Britain of a former Russian intelligence officer that utilized a rare Russian-made nerve agent.

“Current and former officials also said the expulsion of American intelligence officers from Moscow has hurt collection efforts. And officials also raised the possibility that the outing of an F.B.I. informant under scrutiny by the House intelligence committee — an examination encouraged by President Trump — has had a chilling effect on intelligence collection.” NYT

CHRIS CADELAGO and DANIEL STRAUSS — “Trump flips the script on Washington scandal response”: “Trump’s refusal to hide reflects his unshakeable confidence that he’s the only one who can get them to turn out in November, allies say – and the reality that his base won’t abandon him, no matter what.” POLITICO

THE LATEST ON MARIIA BUTINA — “Lawyer for alleged Russian agent Maria Butina says texts show claim that she offered sex for job is ‘sexist smear,’” by WaPo’s Rosalind Helderman: “A lawyer for alleged Russian agent Maria Butina filed a motion Friday arguing that federal prosecutors misconstrued a three-year-old playful exchange between Butina and a male friend in Russia to smear the 29-year old student as a seductress who offered sex for access.” WaPo

KNOWING PETER NAVARRO … MOLLY BALL in Time, “Peter Navarro Used To Be a Democrat. Now He’s the Mastermind Behind Trump’s Trade War”: “His power has grown in recent months. Navarro, 69, won a formal promotion in February. Most of his free-trade opponents on Trump’s economic team have left the Administration. The U.S. has moved aggressively to implement his preferred policies …

“Peter Navarro originally set out to be a politician, not just an adviser to one. But he had a problem: people didn’t like him. … Idealistic but adrift, Navarro found his calling in economic policy. … [A]fter China joined the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2001, he started to notice that his MBA students were losing their jobs despite their sterling qualifications. He concluded that China’s trade practices … were putting Americans at an unfair disadvantage. In other words, Navarro seemed to see in China a scapegoat for people like himself: well-credentialed Americans denied access to the success they felt they’d earned.” Time

THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION — “E.P.A. Rule Change Could Let Dirtiest Coal Plants Keep Running (and Stay Dirty),” by NYT’s Eric Lipton: “[T]he Trump administration’s proposed rewrite of climate-change regulations could enable some of America’s dirtiest remaining coal plants to be refurbished and keep running for years without adding scrubbers or other modern pollution controls.

“Industry lawyers and former federal officials say the policy shift is one of the most consequential pieces of the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposal, made public this week, to replace the Obama-era Clean Power Plan.” NYT

WSJ’S HEIDI VOGT: “Under Trump, Consumer Safety Agency Aims to Boost Cooperation With Business”: “Ann Marie Buerkle, acting chairwoman of the Consumer Product Safety Commission since February 2017, has toned down what businesses describe as the confrontational approach of her Democratic predecessor. Ms. Buerkle, who wrote in 2016 that the commission shouldn’t be used to ‘bully industry,’ says she is trying to more extensively include input from companies in resolving concerns about risky products. …

“Manufacturers have welcomed the change. … Critics, including a recently departed commissioner, say Ms. Buerkle has gone too far.” WSJ

WHAT THE LEFT IS READING — “Why So Many Democratic Candidates Are Dissing Corporate PACs,” by The Atlantic’s Elaine Godfrey: “The promise, which is becoming a sort of progressive litmus test, is designed to excite the base and allows candidates to brag that they aren’t beholden to corporate interests. …

“But while the pledge might help attract voters, it isn’t otherwise consequential—at least not yet. Corporate-pac donations don’t constitute a significant amount of any Democratic candidate’s funding, and nothing precludes candidates from accepting individual donations from corporate executives.” The Atlantic

2018 WATCH — “For Female Candidates, Harassment and Threats Come Every Day,” by NYT’s Maggie Astor: “Harassment is not new for women in politics, or anywhere else — and men face it too, especially if they are African-American or Jewish. But for women, the harassment is ubiquitous and frequently sexualized, and it has come to the fore this election cycle, partly because so many women are running and partly because more of them are discussing their experiences. …

“[S]ome candidates interviewed said initially that they had not been harassed — but then, when given examples like menacing social media messages, said yes, they had experienced those things. Just as many have observed in the #MeToo movement that a certain level of misogyny is so expected as to feel unremarkable, these candidates said they saw the messages as par for the course.” NYT

— “Elections board votes down closing Georgia precincts,” by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Mark Niesse: “An elections board in southwestern Georgia defeated a contentious proposal Friday to close seven rural voting locations before November’s election following overwhelming opposition to the idea. …

“The precinct closure proposal received widespread criticism because it could have reduced turnout in a majority African-American county … The effort to shut down precincts arose in the middle of the high-profile campaign for governor between Democrat Stacey Abrams and Republican Brian Kemp.” AJC

VALLEY TALK — “Tech Companies Are Gathering For A Secret Meeting To Prepare A 2018 Election Strategy,” by BuzzFeed’s Kevin Collier: “The meeting [Friday] … will have a three-part agenda: each company will present the work they’ve been doing to counter information operations; there will be a discussion period for problems each company faces; and a talk about whether such a meeting should become a regular occurrence.” BuzzFeed

HOLLYWOODLAND … “Hollywood Democrats Plan Big Sept. 24 Fundraiser for House Candidates,” by Variety’s Ted Johnson: “The event, to be held at Marcy Carsey’s home, will raise money for the [DCCC]. Nancy Pelosi is scheduled to attend, along with candidates in the key races.” Variety

HEADS UP — “Here Are The 52 Trump Investigations That Democrats Plan If They Win The Midterms,” by HuffPost’s Paul Blumenthal: “The 52 subpoena requests fell into three categories. First, Trump administration and Trump Organization corruption, conflicts of interest and violations of norms of good governance. Second, the committee’s core oversight functions, including agency reorganizations, the issuance of security clearances and the 2020 census. And third, overall issues of waste, fraud and abuse.” HuffPost

OOPS — “Department of Justice Reveals ‘Glitch’ Shielded Officials From Public Scrutiny,” by The Daily Beast’s Betsy Woodruff: “A technical glitch kept the Justice Department from reviewing all the email accounts it was supposed to for almost a year, according to a new, previously unreported court filing.

“That means emails from some DOJ officials weren’t examined in response to records requests and lawsuits—so key emails that should have been made public months ago could have been inadvertently withheld. The department is now redoing records searches to try to belatedly fulfill requests.” The Daily Beast

AP/BEIJING — “U.S. ‘deeply concerned’ after China denies U.S. reporter visa”: “The Embassy statement did not mention [BuzzFeed’s Megha Rajagopalan] by name. … However, it listed delays in processing foreign journalist visas, travel restrictions and violence at the hands of local authorities among its concerns. It said better access in China was necessary to ‘ensure reciprocity’ for the open access Chinese media enjoy in the U.S.” AP

AFTERNOON READ — MICHAEL KRUSE in the Friday cover of POLITICO Magazine, “Trump’s Long War with Justice: He fought the law—and won. Could he do it again?”: “In 1973, the federal government sued Trump and his father, alleging systematic racial discrimination in the rentals at their dozens of New York City apartment buildings. … The accepted narrative of this case is that Trump and his father lost. …

“Trump simply waited them out. He emerged in Manhattan, his reputation virtually unscathed, to wrest unparalleled public subsidies to convert the collapsing Commodore Hotel into the glossy Grand Hyatt and then pry additional tax cuts to erect Trump Tower—the one-two punch of projects that constituted rocket propellant for Trump’s entire adult existence. Amazon workers are being paid to defend the company on Twitter

Meet Amazon's (paid) FC Ambassadors, who will reply to your Amazon criticisms on Twitter with their positive personal experiences working for the company.
Meet Amazon’s (paid) FC Ambassadors, who will reply to your Amazon criticisms on Twitter with their positive personal experiences working for the company.

More than a dozen Amazon workers are defending their employer on Twitter after a string of reports detailing bad working conditions at the company’s fulfillment centers.

But they’re not just tweeting out of loyalty to the company, although they say that’s a part of it. Amazon is paying them to do it.

SEE ALSO: Learn photography skills with this online class and dominate Instagram

TechCrunch first noticed the accounts after Twitter user @bornwithatail_ discovered some of the workers’ tweets. There are currently 15 known accounts, all bearing similar attributes. For example, each account uses the Amazon smile logo as its Twitter background, all have “FC Ambassador” and a little brown box emoji in their Twitter name, and every one of the accounts link to Amazon’s fulfillment center tour website.

So Amaz*n has set up an army of bot accounts, allegedly from workers at various fulfillment centers, whose sole purpose is to jump on tweets critical of their benevolent overlord with the same stale cant about great pay & benefits pic.twitter.com/Z7lJWUb7A0

— FLAMBOYANT SHOES GUY 👟👞🌴🍍🥥🌹🌵 (@bornwithatail_) August 23, 2018

The accounts mostly post replies to other Twitter users, likely in response to searches for comments criticizing Amazon worker conditions. The FC Ambassadors jump into the conversation with those users, replying to the critical tweet with what they say is their first-person account of working for the company.

I work at one in TX & can assure you-not on food stamps/never have been. In fact, I know a LOT of the people in this warehouse & have yet to meet one who is. We receive good pay and a generous benefits package. Lots of ops to move up into even higher paying jobs too…just sayin

— Shaye – Amazon FC Ambassador 📦 (@AmazonFCShaye) August 22, 2018

Hello! I work at an Amazon warehouse in WA and I can assure you that they are treating me well! I have great benefits, like the people I work with and can go to the bathroom when needed 😃

— Phil – Amazon FC Ambassador 📦 (@AmazonFCPhil) August 10, 2018

One of the most frequent conversation topics that Amazon’s FC Ambassadors seem to pop up in are the recent reports of Amazon workers who claim they have to pee in bottles and other non-traditional workplace lavatories. The workers say that due to Amazon’s strict packaging targets and break micromanagement, they simply don’t have the time to trek to bathrooms — which can be few and far between in Amazon’s huge warehouses. FC Ambassadors obviously refute this claim.

Just like Jeff I can use the restroom anytime I want! No bottle needed ⛔

That’s especially good news for me being that I drink water like a camel. Needless to say I use the restroom a lot; thank goodness there’re lots of 🚻 to choose from!

— Jeremy – Amazon FC Ambassador 📦 (@AmazonFCJeremy) August 24, 2018

Over on Twitter, some are calling the whole thing downright creepy. Many seem to point to the overly earnest, way-too-positive attitudes the FC Ambassadors spout, often sounding more like they’re spouting corporate PR talk than like an employee giving their employer an honest assessment.

the amazon twitter accounts are really creepy

like does anyone actually talk like those

we are supposed to believe those are legitimate???

Dear Amazon, so now you’re using bots to spread misinformation about the low wages you pay employees and the deplorable working conditions in your Fulfillment Centers? What kind of creepy Orwellian bullshit is this?

— Mac (@alt_the_man) August 24, 2018

Amazon confirmed to Mashable that actual employees with experience working in the company’s fulfillment centers run the accounts, but they’ve chosen to be FC ambassadors full time. So these aren’t bots, and it clearly isn’t astroturfing — the practice of hiring several people to create fake accounts to push a marketing goal (often positive reviews) — but its overall effect is similar.

In a statement to Mashable, an Amazon spokesperson said:

FC ambassadors are employees who have experience working in our fulfilment centers. The most important thing is that they’ve been here long enough to honestly share the facts based on personal experience. It’s important that we do a good job of educating people about the actual environment inside our fulfillment centers, and the FC ambassador program is a big part of that along with the fulfilment center tours we provide. Those tours enable thousands of customers every year to come and see for themselves what it’s like to work inside one of our fulfilment centers.

Hopefully, the company also addresses the concerns and criticisms of Amazon warehouse workers who have not had such pleasant personal experiences.

Even if everyone else abandons him or goes to jail, Ali G will always be by Trump’s side.

On Thursday, comedian Sacha Baron Cohen shared an old — and particularly painful — video of his most famous character, Ali G, interviewing Donald Trump. In a follow-up note, Ali G expressed affection for President Trump during this difficult time.

Watch in horror as Trump claims that humans existed hundreds of millions of years ago, an idea that’s been disproven by pretty much everyone in existence. Remember: this video was filmed before Trump ran for president, when he was notably more coherent.

Ali G made his feelings for Trump clear in the subsequent note he posted:

“Yesterday it was proven in de courts dat u iz a crook — respeck!” Ali G writes. “U iz a genuine gangsta!”

U iz a genuine gangsta, Donald Trump, and if Mueller has his way — you just might be going to jail.
